Course Overview

course will focus on establishing an audit team, developing a site audit manual and implementing an auditing program at a site. Participants will collaborate in small groups to analyze scenarios using incident videos and

incidents will be added, such as responding to critical audit findings, requiring participants to react as they would in a real-life scenario.

Audience

operations and maintenance managers; operations, technical, and maintenance engineers; PSM audit element leaders and team members; site process safety management (PSM) leaders and team members; and any person who could potentially lead or resource a PSM audit.

Participants are expected to be knowledgeable in all PSM elements and be experts in a number of the elements.

Learning ObjectivesIn order to accelerate skill development, this course features a problem-based learning approach that provides a collaborative job-focused experience. Participants will identify the essential elements of auditing including roles and responsibilities, develop an audit schedule, assemble an effective audit team, complete pre-audit preparations, follow the steps for conducting an audit, and collect

recommendations; identify components for an opening and closing conference; create an effective audit report; get the steps involved in conducting a future state visioning activity; and collaboratively build a personal compilation of recommendations to apply on the job.

Results andPath ForwardAfter completing this course, participants should compile a list of action items based on their learning to apply back on

new or upgrading existing auditing procedures. To build competency at the individual level, the participant should identify a coach, apply the updated procedure to select departments, evaluate the audit results, and get assessed on the competency requirements for applying PSM auditing.

It is recommended that participants go through an e-learning refresher course once a year and instructor-led refresher training once every three years.
