JMJ

Dear Sacred Heart Family,

We’ve experienced three all school Masses already this year. As I sit in Mass and look around, I can’t help but smile seeing the older students sitting next to their younger pals. Often I witness a 4th grade child gently prodding a kindergarten child to kneel; an 8th grader pointing to a song sheet and singing with a 2nd grader. This is brotherly love at it’s best and I can’t help but feel that our older students have learned how to care for someone from you, their parents.

Each week, Fr. Pat has given the students a “homework” assignment. One week, he asked them to pray for parents, another week, his assignment was to pray for an individual classmate each day. This week, Fr. Pat’s assignment reminded me of an old cliché that my mom used to have-“it never hurts to ask.” He encouraged our student to ask their mom and/or dad to pray with them. Did you child ask you?

I encourage you to have a conversation with your child about the Fr. Pat’s weekly homework assignment. No doubt, you will be enlightened.

September 2015 "Be Merciful as your Father is Merciful." -Luke 6:36

1st Quarter Theme: Merciful Eyes Help me, O Lord, that my eyes may be merciful, so that I may never judge from appearances, but look for what is good and beautiful in all people. May I see the good so that I never speak negatively of anyone but have a word of comfort and forgiveness for every person.

Who doesn’t need comfort? I know I do! I’m so grate-ful that everyone at Sacred Heart works together to make sure we’re all on the path to Heaven. Some of us need lots of supplies and pit stops. Others speed on through and help guide anyone they encounter.

Academic Excellence & Achievement

Highlights of September

Kindergarten implemented a new ELA program called Superkids. This program is an interactive curriculum for reading and math. It also provides a scholastic magazine for science and social studies.

1st grade is reading texts about different kinds of schools and are learning about the similarities and differences in schools around the world. For example, some students are required to wear uniforms while others are not and some students go to school in the day while others go at night.

2nd grade has started learning cursive, and the students are currently working on the letters “i” and “t”. They have also been exploring the life cycle of the butterfly for science.
