JMJ

Dear Sacred Heart Family and Friends,

Catholic School’s week is an amazing five days. It’s so much bigger than wearing PJ’s to school (although that is a favorite day!). It’s a time where students and staff engage in discussions about the uniqueness of Sacred Heart. As we talk about all the reasons that Sacred Heart is special, you can see the minds turning in children. They get it. They authentically embrace the beauty of being in a school where faith and academics unite.

See what students have to say about going to Sacred Heart. Their pictures with “I CAN” statements are on the next page.

Let’s continue to celebrate Sacred Heart as we meet on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. This “State of the School” parent evening is sure to be one you don’t want to miss. Staff and students are excited to inform and inspire you!

Have you seen the Catholic School’s Week video? If not, it is posted on the website or you can open this link:

New Attendance Email AddressWe are introducing a new email address to help with attendance notifications from parents via email.

The address [email protected] has been created to notify appropriate front office staff that your child will not be at school.

We ask that when you email your child’s teacher of their absence, you include the new [email protected] as a recipient of the email as well. This will ensure appropriate office staff members are notified (and you won’t have to remember any specific names to send the email).

As always, if you choose to phone in your child’s absence, there is no need to email us.

If you have any questions or concerns with the new email address, please contact our technology director, Ben Chapman, at [email protected].

Vision and Hearing ScreeningsVision and Hearing Screenings are being completed for students in Kindergarten through Third Grade, as well as Fifth and Seventh Grade. If further physician assessment is recommended from results of your child’s screening, Nurse Carol will contact you, thanks!

Upcoming VIRTUS Training SessionsThe VIRTUS program was adopted by the Archdiocese as a part of a program designed to help protect our children. Anyone who wishes to volunteer or work at any school or parish within the Archdiocese is required to attend the training. This includes parents who would like to help with classroom parties. Catholic School’s Week in Science Catholic Schools Week is always my favorite week of the year! The kids are always so energized to celebrate their faith in the extra special way that CSW offers. We have

been really busy in 7th grade with a lot of labs demonstrating  Newton’s  Laws  of  Motion.   The 8th

graders have just started Chemicals of Life and it has already proved to be a challenging topic. Both topics

give the students an opportunity to learn new vocabulary.

Please help CYO fill Catholic Charities’ Food Pantries! Starting the weekend of February 13th running through the weekend of March 6th, CYO will have barrels available at all CYO basketball games for food collection. Barrels will be marked with school names, so support your favorite Catholic school by adding your food donation to the bin marked with your school’s name. Schools will join one of three teams and race to collect the most food!

Please visit this link for a list of our most needed food items: www.catholiccharitiesks.org/mostneededpantryitems Are you in need of service hours? To volunteer to help load/unload food during the CYO food drives, please contact Michelle Carlstedt at 913.433.2080 or [email protected].

Box Tops Collections - Next Week!Help us earn money for our school! Since 2004, Sacred Heart has earned over $15,000 through the Box Tops program.

Box Tops Collection week will be February 9-13th. Please send any Box Tops you have collected to school with your child that week. The classroom with the most Box Tops will earn a reward.

Box Tops can be found on General Mills, Betty Crocker, and Scott Tissue, just to name a few.

Sacred Heart earns $0.10 for each Box Top. For any questions, please contact Misti Ranck at 913-302-9078.

Care Packages for our SeminariansPlease join Sacred Heart Catholic Parents as Stewards in creating care packages for our three seminarians, Keith Chadwick, Michael Guastello and Austin Krause. The items will be collected the week of Feb 23-27. Students can bring the items and drop them off in the boxes near the school office marked Care Packages for Our Seminarians. Also included in the care packages will be Spiritual Bouquets that the Sacred Heart students will create at school. These Spiritual Bouquets will be offerings of prayers for our three seminarians as they continue their studies and preparations for the priesthood.

Thank you for your contributions and offerings of prayers. These parish men will be so grateful to know we are thinking and praying for them.

Additionally an Adoration Day for the Seminarians will be held on Friday, Feb 27th starting after the 8:15 mass. Each class will go throughout the day to pray for Michael, Keith and Austin.

Here is the link to the Signup Genius page for the items to be included in the care packages for each Seminarian.

Sacred Heart School RosaryOur school is built on a rich foundation of prayer and love for our families, our community and Mary, the Mother of God. Let us bring to our Blessed Mother our prayers and woes this school session by praying the rosary with your family throughout the school year. Please join your Sacred Heart community by volunteering to pray a daily rosary for a blessed 2014- 2015 school year for our staff, students and our spiritual leader, Father. Craig.

It is easy to participate, here are the steps:

1. Choose a week on Signup Genius to host the Sacred Heart Rosary. Include your email and phone number so it is easy to contact you in the comment back.

2. You will receive a prayer card so you can pray for each of the 2014-2015 staff/facility members by name, as well as a pamphlet on how to say the rosary. Please keep these items with the rosary when you pass them on week by week.

3. Say a daily rosary from Sunday to Saturday using the rosary dedicated to this school year. You may choose to pray as a family or assign a day to each family member, your choice!

4. As your week draws to a close, reach out to the next family on the list to arrange an exchange point. Please keep to the assigned week so each family who has volunteered has the same opportunity to participate.

5. Keep the 2014-2015 school year in your daily prayers.

Please contact Paula Hoelting at [email protected] or 913-707-7128 if you have any questions.

May God bless you and your family this school year. www.SignUpGenius.com/go/8050A4FA9AB2F4-sarcred
