Dear Sacred Heart families,

If you missed the email earlier this week, below you will find the overview of our school’s accreditation visit.

Last week, Sacred Heart underwent an external review for accreditation of our school. When the team reviewed these results with us (see below for list of team members), they were quite complimentary of our school noting that Sacred Heart is an “exemplary school.” They recommended Sacred Heart to receive full accreditation! Needless to say, we are quite pleased. Sacred Heart will receive a detailed report of the findings in a few weeks and we will share it with you. In the meantime, the team gave us initial feedback in three categories: Powerful Practices, Opportunities for Improvement, and Improvement Priorities. The details of these categories are listed below. On behalf of the staff, I extend my appreciation to you for your continued support of Sacred Heart. These positive results are as much a tribute to your commitment to Catholic education as they are to our commitment to educate your children in a Christian, academic challenging environment.

Sacred Heart Accreditation Visit Result Overview Review dates: April 7-8th, 2016

External Review Team:Ann McGuff-principal at Good Shepherd Catholic SchoolJane Shriver: principal at Prince of Peace Catholic SchoolBecky Wright: principal at Ascension Catholic SchoolKim Hammers: vice-principal at Cure of Ars Catholic SchoolAmy Wright: principal at John Paul II Catholic School Jean Ann Petz: AdvancED State office

Powerful Practices: (only given if all members of the team give the highest rating (4) in a category. (Note: (7) powerful practices is a high number. The review team communicated that the average school receives 4 powerful practices)

• Mentoring program is excellent and supports the growth of new teachers• Purpose and mission is evident throughout the building and to anyone who enters the building.

Catholic identity is lived out in word and action. • Governing body (Fr. Pat Sullivan) ensures school’s leadership (Maureen Engen) has autonomy

to meet goals for achievement and instruction and to manage day to day operations• Leadership (Fr. Pat Sullivan, Maureen Engen) engages stakeholders (parents) effectively in

support of school’s mission and direction. • School engages families in meaningful ways: communication by administration and staff is

outstanding.• School has formal structure where each student is known by at least one advocate• Parish hires qualified staff to meet the needs of students

OFI: (Opportunity for improvement…not required for accreditation but highly suggested)

• Implement a formal structure to communicate assessment data to parents• Technology: using more technology in classroom and having a comprehensive technology plan

to focus on upgrading the infrastructure for learning and achievement• Hiring a school counselor to provide emotional and social support for students

IP: (Improvement priority…2 years to achieve these required initiatives)

• Systematic professional development plan for teachers to align with the school improvement of using current educational best practices, ie, math enrichment, differentiated instruction, MTSS strategies.

• Administration works with staff to coordinate schedules so that reading and math instructional time is protected and the daily schedule includes MTSS in both reading and math.

Sacred Heart Set to Host 46th Annual Brown Bottle Dinner and Auction

Time is Running Out…

It’s hard to believe, but the annual Brown Bottle Dinner and Auction is only 2 weeks away! Over 80% of our available seating has already been reserved…that means if you are planning to attend this special event at Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 30 --- you better act fast to grab one of the 50+ remaining seats ($40/per ticket). Reservations can be made online at https://shoj.ejoinme.org/brownbottle16 or by visiting with representatives from the Brown Bottle Planning Committee in the Narthex following weekend Masses.

An extremely limited number of Reserved Tables (seating for eight) still remain. With the purchase of a $500 table, attendees will receive commemorative pint glasses, table service, a selection of craft beer and hard lemonade – and a complementary bottle of champagne to share for their group.

Standing room only accommodations will be made for those who do not purchase tickets in advance or who make a last-minute decision to attend. While there may not be guaranteed seats available for everyone, all event attendees (including our volunteers) will be welcome to enjoy food and drink, participate in the silent and live auctions, and stay for the dance party.

Doors will open for Brown Bottle at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, and we look forward to seeing you there! Thank you to all of those who have already purchased tickets to attend and/or provided your support through donated items or volunteered time.

Additional information:

Donors - The Brown Bottle Committee is still accepting hand-crafted or newly purchased items for the Silent Auction. We are also specifically looking for kid-friendly auction items and/or home and garden types of donations.

If you are able to assist, please contact the Brown Bottle committee via email at [email protected].

Baskets - One of our most popular items this year will once again be the baskets coordinated by our Sacred Heart classes and School of Religion students. Those baskets will be displayed next weekend following weekend Masses on April 23 and 24, and be raffled off at the Brown Bottle event. They will also be displayed in the school hallway the last week of April. Sacred Heart and SOR students often get very excited about the baskets, so don’t be surprised if your child asks for a couple of dollars with hopes of buying a winning ticket.

CPS is currently looking to fill a few roles in our team of coordinators for the 2016-2017 school year. Serving on CPS is a great way to stay involved in our school as well as supporting our school staff that do so much for our children. Please take a moment to look over the open roles and prayerfully consider if you are being called to join our CPS Team. If you have any questions, please contact the current co-leads Jodi Chaput at [email protected] or Katie Wright at [email protected] thank you for considering using your gifts to bless our school!!
