Dear Sacred Heart Family,

This week I ran across the first letter I wrote as principal in July of 2012. In it, I asked (3) questions:

-Who are you?-What are you on fire for at Sacred Heart?-How can we partner so the fire stays alive to create the best school for your children?

Certainly relevant questions today. Four years later, I’m still interested in knowing you better, hearing about the desires you have for your children, and advocating as a team for the success of students.

Prior to being principal here, I was a vice-principal at St. James. I’ve shared with many my hesitancy to leave St. James-a place I loved, and still do. But, I interviewed at Sacred Heart because I was curious. The students who attended St. James from SHOJ were impressive; solid academically…close friends…natural faith leaders. I wanted to see what was going on at a school that graduated so many quality people.

Am I ever glad that I responded to my curiosity, the nudge the Holy Spirit planted in my heart to find out more!

I know now why our students at Sacred Heart are so successful and why they stand out in high school. I’ve witnessed the relationship between staff, students, and parents and I’ve watched it grow. I’ve witnessed teachers who are great not because of their measurable knowledge or academically credibility, but because of traits that make them a Catholic educator. They teach like Jesus in being straightforward, yet humble, giving every student a chance to succeed, and modeling Christ in their own life. Most important, they emulate Jesus Himself through the wisdom of knowing what they do is accomplished by the strength and grace given to them by God. These qualities create the fruitful atmosphere where our students grow as young boys and girls. Along with the strong commitment and trust of our parents, this is why our students are exceptional.

I’m blessed to have been a part of all this and firmly believe that as long as keep the fire burning, the best is yet to come.

To God be the Glory!

Our theme this Lenten season is “Pray, Fast, Give”. Each classroom was provided a poster with graphics illustrating this theme and serves as a visual reminder to the students.

Attached to the bottom of the posters, teachers have recorded how students are showing these actions during Lent: writing prayers or intentions; listing things students are fasting from; listing things students have given this season.

In addition, classrooms have been making prayer chains, dedicating a prayer to someone or something for each day of Lent.

Pray, Fast, Give

Playground UseAs the weather gets nicer, a friendly reminder that the playground area is closed at 3:40 p.m. each day for after school care. Your attention to this is much appreciated!

Favorite Work of Mercy: “To feed the hungry”I would like to increase volunteering at a food kitch-en. My mom is pretty involved in this and I feel like it is something we could do as a family. Favorite Quote: “Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.”

-St. Padre Pio

What you might not know: I love to travel. My favorite places to go, especially on vacation, is the beach.

Please click on the following link to sign your family up to pray the rosary for the intentions of our staff. We appreciate your help and know that our teachers, staff and priests appreciate the prayers! If you have any questions, please contact DeAnn Sajdak at [email protected] http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D44AAAD22AB9-sacred
