Campbell’s Soup Labels… Parents, we are no longer collecting soup labels. Campbell’s has

done away with this program. Thank you for collecting these labels over the years! PCA has

benefitted with your efforts!

We are still collecting Box Tops for Education. Each one is worth $.10. The school uses this

money for a variety of things, from ACSI fees to new equipment, so keep saving those Box

Tops! The next mail in will be the first of March, so bring them in now. Thank you!

Psalm 19:7-14

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the

simple; 8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure,

enlightening the eyes; 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true

and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also

than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is

great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. 13 Keep back Your servant

also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be

innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and meditation of my heart be acceptable

in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

These few lines from Psalm 19 beautifully underscore the fact that God’s Word must be our final rule of faith

and practice. It is what distinguishes a truly regenerate heart. Since the Bible is God’s “heart and mind” re-

vealed it becomes everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Every time we pick up the Bible, we

pick up the truth. Jesus said “If you continue in My word…you will know the truth, and the truth will make

you free” (John 8:31-32).

The Bible stands alone as the only vehicle, available to man, which conveys the awesome grandeur of God

and thereby stirs in us a reverential awe that draws us to worship our Creator, 2 Timothy 3:15 “And from

childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith

which is in Christ Jesus”. Therefore, the Scriptures give us the right way to worship the true God. There is no

taint of evil or impurity in the Bible’s presentation of God or His expectations. Scripture describes some peo-

ple as “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7). May we be

“His” people who love and live Truth every day and in every situation.

Kindergarten Tidbit ~ Mrs. Whitlock & Mrs. Glass

Come, stop by the kindergarten room! We have hung up pictures of Mrs. Whitlock’s mission trip to Costa Rica! Mrs. Whitlock has been busy teaching Spanish to others. Her newest note: “We checked out some new construction projects today and there were holler monkeys in the trees. A family took us there in their car and we stopped at the beach too. I played in the ocean with their daughter, Vallentina. Last night, we road in a boat to take us across to the other side of the beach and it was so dark the stars were amazingly bright! It was like you could reach out and touch them! There were some splashing noises in the water by our boat and our guide said it was probably crocodiles. That was a bit frightening!” In Social Studies, we are going to be learning more on Kenya, Africa. In Bible, we are going to be learning about Jesus choosing his 12 disciples. Memory Verse: John 13:35 - “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Last week we did not have any tests and just did review, as half our class was absent due to sickness. So, this week we will do what we were going to do last week. In Bible we will be learning about sharing and how Je-sus miraculously fed a large crowd of people. Our memory verse this week is “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16 In Phonics this week, we are learning about prefixes, reviewing suffixes and rhyming words, applying A-B-C order to words with the same beginning letter, and learning new daily special sounds. In Math this week we are reviewing adding two 2-digit numbers, place values, adding three and four num-bers, identifying value of coins, and telling time to five-minute increments. Our new concept will be learning how to subtract two-digit numbers. Please continue to log the minutes your child reads each night on the February Book Log. It was sent home

last week on Thursday.

We will have a Valentine's Day Party this Wednesday, February 14th. The students may decorate a container,

box, or bag to hold their valentines. I am looking forward to seeing all the students' creations! Please note,

there will be 14 students in our class on Wednesday, as Mrs. Batchelor's daughter, Elaina, will be joining our

class party.

It’s back to business as usual thankfully! We’re so glad to have everyone back at school!

Our Valentine’s Party will be on Wednesday starting at 1:15. Student’s need to bring a container to keep their

Valentine’s in. Thank you moms who are planning our party! I know we’ll have a lot of fun!

We are starting a Bible unit on Daniel this week. Our verse is Psalm 138:3 “When I called you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted.” We will be learning about Daniel’s faithfulness to the Lord. We will recite this verse on Friday. Spelling Test 20 will also be on Friday.

In English class we are doing a unit on capitalization, abbreviations and pronouns. In math we are learning more about Roman numerals (50, 100, 500, and 1,000). We are also multiplying by 0, 1 and 2.

Spelling - List 22. We will have the test on Thursday.

Math – We are learning dry measures which are kind of fun. We also will continue to climb up the tables to the 7 and 8

families for multiplication. Please encourage them to practice the 6’s, 7’s, and 8’s. I test them one number at a time. Our

lesson papers are using the 6 family now. This week it will be 7’s. It is very frustrating for the child to do long division and

simple equations when they have not mastered these facts. I will continue to go over and over the division process and

the equation process with the students in the class. We have a wonderful condensed math handbook in the back of the

text. I pointed it out to them again. It is an overview of all the math operations, measurements, and definitions for third-

grade math. Have your child use it as a reference at home! I will send some problems for them to do at home. They need

to do one or two of each type every night. Practicing a few problems every night and following the step by step process

(like we do in class) is going to get them over that wall!

History – This week we are finishing Daniel Boone and starting Noah Webster.

Language – The next two chapters are to teach the children use of pronouns and verbs in a sentence correctly. These

chapters are preparing for them for our next two big topics. The first one is picking out a game (one they know well and is

very simple) and writing step by step game instructions. Next, they will be creating and writing their very own story. It

can be fiction or non-fiction.

Health – All about Nutrition: minerals and food groups.

Science – Our few last chapters in Science will be learning about God’s wonderful creation – the amazing human body.

We will tie that in somewhat with our health topics. We have a few smaller chapters about weather and pond. By popular

demand, we will squeeze in a week or two about geology for my third-grade rock-hounds. These topics will fill up most of

our time for the rest of the year. Don’t forget the end of the year Wildlife Prairie Park in Peoria: a grand finale for our

third-grade science program. That field trip should be in May.

Bible – This week into next we will be talking about having an attitude of thanksgiving in Christ. Colossians 3:17 says “And

whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” What a

great Bible verse to memorize! Last week we talked all about being a new creation in Christ Jesus. To put away the old

self and become made new in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Reminder! PERMISSION SLIPS FOR THE MUSIC FIELD TRIP must be returned by TODAY Tuesday so we can secure tickets

for the group. It should be a great concert and learning experience for the children and adults. This trip is covered by PCA

for students and drivers! The only cost is buffet lunch at Pizza Hut. Buffet lunch money must be sent ahead of time due to

reservations. Please have your child dress in “concert” clothes. That means dressy. Any questions, call the office.

We are working on I Corinthians 13. What a “love”-ly job your children are doing!

We will be starting to multiply fractions in math. We are beginning our research reports about a famous Illinoisan in English. Our spelling list is 22-- test Wednesday and we’re learning about geology in science and will probably test on it Friday. Illinois notebooks are progressing.

Our speeches are getting fine-tuned in preparation for the Peoria Speech Meet. We still need to practice them ever so often.

6th History: Chapter 12 Test is Thursday

7th History: Chapter 13-15 Test is Thursday.

8th History: Students are transitioning to taking their own notes on lectures and texts. They will be given credit

for their notes instead of daily comprehension checks during this chapter. I am trying to prepare them for high

school teaching method.

6th Language Arts: We began A Wrinkle in Time last week. I am asking parents not to allow students to see the

current Disney version, (until we finish reading it), as it will confuse the actual book plot in their minds. We are

on chapter two today and there are twelve in total. It should take us the next two weeks from today. We will

watch a really good version of it after we finish the book.

7th Language Arts: We continue our study of Romeo and Juliet. We are also working hard on different grammar

and are preparing to write a short play.

Spanish: 8th grade will test tomorrow over chapters 17-19.

Spanish : 7th grade will be finishing our current book by next week. The test for that will be next Friday follow-

ing the band trip.

Many students have requested new folders and spirals. Please check with your child to see if there are any sup-

plies that they need restocked. As always, your support is appreciated.

6th Grade - We will have a busy week studying for Quiz 16, Section 4.7-4.9. Then, Chapters 1-4 for a test.

7th Grade - We will be starting Chapter 9: Fish, Reptiles and Amphibians.

8th Grade - We will be studying Weather: Clouds and Fog. Clouds: the names of cloud formations and altitudes

associated with them.

We finished A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but now we are anxious to see it. Chicago Shakespeare Theater

is working hard to find us another date, so PRAY. I will notify you as soon as I know something! While we

wait, we will work on adverbs and begin reading Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Welcome back! After a crazy week last week, we will re-train and try to piece together something that looks

like a week of school this week.

Wednesday afternoon is our Valentine’s Day party. If you would like to help with or contribute to that, please

ACSI Music Festival will soon be here! It will be on March 9th and 10th at Olivet University in Bourbonnais, IL.

Junior high students participating are:

~ Hailey Foster, Steve Gyurkovics, Andrea Imsland, Drew Knipper, Nick Mecum,

Claudia Nordstrom, Christian Rosario, Graeham Rumley, and Ellie Wedell in Choir.

~ Sarah Freeman, Gabe Glass, Claire Grey, William Marshall, and Leah Wilson in Band.

We are very excited for those who will be involved in this wonderful opportunity! Please return the Medical/Photo

Release Forms to the office. The $25.00 for the hotel room may also be turned in at anytime. A letter with more

This week in K-5 general music, grades K-4 learned about instrument families and where they are found in the

symphony orchestra. They saw and heard a live trumpet! Fifth grade worked on their music note reading skills.

Important field trip information – 3rd grade and band parents please read carefully.

Our 3rd grade and band field trip is next week on Friday 2/23 morning!

Permission slips and lunch money are due in the office today 2/13.

Please make sure to turn in lunch money now. We are receiving a group discount for our lunch, so we will pay

as a group.

We will leave at 8:05 am.

Please be early. We are waiting until 8:05 am for our bus students. We need time to safely drive to Ottawa,

where the concert is being held!

Students are expected to dress up.

Going to the symphony is a special occasion! The professional musicians have spent hours to prepare and will

be dressed up to perform. Clothing needs to be school appropriate. Dresses and skirts, dress pants and

button up shirts or polos are appropriate. Please, no jeans or tennis shoes for the concert! Students may

bring other clothes to change into, upon our arrival back at school.

Please remember, the field trip is not optional for Advanced Band; it is part of their grade. If they miss the trip,

they will be expected to attend a live concert (on their own time) and complete a report to receive the points.

In less than a month, 14 of our PCA students will be performing in the ACSI Music Festival in Bourbonnais! The fes-

tival will culminate with a concert on Saturday 3/10 at 1:30 pm. Please mark your calendars now and come to

hear their beautiful music!
