We have started our new “I Learn to Read” books during reading groups and will introduce using a book mark as a
guide in reading sentences.
In Skills development we will look at “What is Missing”, this could be a number, a group of objects or even a student.
We will practice patterns, putting puzzles together, naming opposites, finding rhyming words and tying our shoes.
Proper formation of our names will be reviewed and practiced. We will write, sound, and read our letters.
The 80 and 90 families will be drilled with flashcards and number formation presented with our number cards. We
will write numbers up to 29 and there will be a number evaluation. Please, please practice number recognition at
home. It is such a great help to your child.
We will review twin addition facts with 0 and 1.
In Phonics we will say, spell, and read words. The one vowel rule will be reviewed . Every student needs to remember
this rule. “ When a word has just one vowel it usually says the short sound and we mark it with a smile.”
We will mark vowels, sound and read words. Reading sentences will include marking the vowel, underlining double
consonants; including ck, nd, and nt. We will identify capital letters and periods or question marks. As the students
read a sentence they will choose the correct final word that is missing for that sentence. Board work will include writ-
ing blends and words. We will play “Around the Room” with one vowel word flash cards.
In Social Studies we will visit Canada. We have our passports ready.
Bible Time story is about Esther. She was clothed with favor. The Lord surrounds those who love Him, His righteous
ones, “with favor . . as with a shield” Psalm5:12. This was certainly true for Esther. Psalm 30:5 “. . His favor lasts a life-
time.” Esther was strong in a hard situation. She thought more of the Jewish people than herself. She was a selfless
person and God protected her so she could deliver His people.
God will give all of us, that love Him, strength and confidence to face challenges. Remind yourself that you are His
child, you are indeed surrounded by His mercy and crowned with His favor.
Our memory verse is “ Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be men of courage, be strong. Do everything in love.”
1 Corin. 16:13,14
Stop by our room Friday before or after the program. The students have made up a Scavenger Hunt
of special places in our room they want to show you.
1st grade ~ Mrs. Wilson
2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett
We still need two parents to organize and host our classroom Christmas Party on December 20th from
12:30 – 2:00pm. I have Nativity Bingo that can be used. Please let me know if you would be willing to
help with the party in any way - If you work and can’t be at the party, maybe you can donate treats. Thank you!
Bible - This week we will learn about how Elijah opposes the false prophets. Our memory verse is “Show me Your
ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths.” Psalm 25:4
Phonics – This week we will continue to practice the double consonant suffix rule – when a root word ends with one
consonant and the vowel is short, double the consonant before adding a suffix beginning with a vowel ex. run-
running.
This week’s special sounds are -ear in earth, -old in gold, -mb in lamb, -ew in flew, and -ew in few.
Math – This week we will learn to identify $ and decimal point in money, identify nonconsecutive between num-
bers, as well as introduce the 9 subtraction family facts. We will also learn to count quarters and measure with cen-
timeters. We will continue to review counting by 25’s, telling time, and reading thermometers.
Spelling – please practice week #15 words at home.
Please continue to log your child’s minutes in the December Book-It Reading Calendar. Thank you!
In Bible class this week we are continuing to learn about Elijah. This week we see how Elijah was bold. We
will finish up Psalm 100 this week with verse 5, “For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness
continues through all generations.” We will recite this verse on Friday. We will also have spelling test 15 on Friday.
Bonus spelling words for the week are: Scripture, sermon, chocolate, ginger, and ornament.
In math classes this week we will work on the 16 addition family, mixed numbers, and symmetry.
In Phonics and Language class, we will continue to work on identifying nouns, changing nouns to show
possession by adding an apostrophe “s”, and types of sentences. We will also learn to identify proper
nouns.
In handwriting class we will learn the letters Pp, Qq, Rr, Ss, and Tt in cursive.
Our Christmas party will be on Friday, December 20th from 12:30 to 1:55. Sarah Scruggs, Elizabeth, Zawis-
towski, and Laura Richey are those helping with our party.
Book It forms for December can be turned in next week before vacation.
Please continue to work on helping your child memorize their speech contest material.

quarts = 1 peck and 4 pecks = 1 bushel. Math quiz on Friday!

We are memorizing John 3:16-21 and reviewing the year’s verses this week.
We are looking forward to our in town field trip next Wednesday. We have over 14 items for the mitten
tree and it is such a nice time at Country Comfort. The Lord has gifted us in so many ways and it is such a privilege
to share with others. Tomorrow will be our day for sharing with one another the gifts we been given by God. We
will “perform” them first thing in the morning starting at 8:40.
We will test on spelling list 15 Wednesday and then begin list 16. We are reducing fractions in math. We
will be writing a book review on “Saved at Sea” soon so the children should be reading a chapter nightly.
It’s time to test over another history chapter this Friday and the test over science chapter 5 will be early

6th graders are participating in their “ How To” speeches this week and next. We created plans last week and each stu-
dent will make and instruct the class in how to make a Christmas craft. This is always a fun way to begin our Christmas
celebration together. Gus was today, Sasha will go tomorrow, and it will be Lydia’s turn Thursday. Next week’s sched-
ule is Alahna on Tuesday and Corwin on Wednesday!
Also, 6th graders will receive a book this Friday, Where the Red Fern Grows. This is their reading book report book. They
should have it read over the holiday break. This is the only assignment I am giving them over break. We will write a re-
port on it when we return.
7th Graders are wrapping up our unit on short stories and working on transitioning into poetry. We are learning how to
write free verse poetry in English class.
History
6th graders will test over this chapter next Wednesday or Thursday.
7th graders are testing this Thursday over Chapters 10-12.
8th graders are coming to the conclusion of our studies of the Constitution. We will practice test on Tuesday of next

Notebook is due. We have been giving some time at school and the students have had this since October. It should be
about done. They may turn it in before break if they’d like to.

the first hour in our homerooms. 7th grade should expect breakfast
