SonShine Preschool - Mrs. Pollok (Miss Elisha)

Kindergarten Tidbit - Mrs. Whitlock Report cards will come home on Wednesday.

Our “100 Day” Party will be January 30th. I hope you saw the letter that went home on last Friday. If you have any questions, please see me.

I will copy and send home the sign up list for the 100 day treats for activities. Most of you have already brought them to the classroom. I thank you very much.

In Phonics this week we will work short/long vowels on the board, marking the sounds. We will review the “ck” rule and learn “ck “ follows a short vowel. The long “e” at the end of short words will be introduced as these are special sounds. (be, me, we, and he)

Reading Groups will continue Book 4 and review books 2 and 3 for fluency. Everyone is doing a great job with Reading Homework, just keep reading. Several students have finished books and signed off on the back. Book 4 has lots of two vowel words. This can be difficult at first. We will reread the sections over and over until it becomes easy for the students to sound/read the stories. There will be a Reading Grade evaluation this week.

In Numbers the students will be asked to fill in the missing number in an addition combination. We will continue to practice writing 0-9 and dictated numbers. As we count we will identify what number comes after a said number and write it. The parts of a calendar will be introduced.

Students will be asked to answer addition facts they have learned and write the twin fact. The word numbers “one, two and three” will be learned. A review of dimes and pennies will be practiced determining how many will be needed to purchase a certain object.

We will practice shoe tying skills and introduce tally charts.

In Social Studies we are heading to the Netherlands to sight see and have a Dutch cheese and chocolate tasting. Does anyone have wooden clogs we could show?

Our tea with the Queen of England was a big hit. Thanks to Myla all the girls had princess dresses to wear. The boys learned to bow and the girls learned to curtsey. Thanks Myla.

Our Bible story is Jonah. As he chose to disobey God, we can learn from Jonah that we need to ask forgiveness and tell God we are sorry along with asking God to help us change. When we disobey. This is a great story of God’s lov-ing concern for all people. We need to be showing God’s love and mercy to other people even when we don’t want to or feel uncomfortable.

Our memory verse: “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

Have a great week!

Many of you know that our oldest son, Jeremy and his wife Jessica are expecting our first grandbaby. Baby Jackson is scheduled to arrive this afternoon! I will be travelling to California to meet Jackson and will be gone from school February 2-13. I wanted to make sure I was here for the students’ speech contest. I have let the students know my plans and will prepare them before heading out. While I do not like missing more time with your precious children, I am so very excited to go meet my grandson! Please keep the students and my family in your prayers!

In His Hands, Mrs. Wolbrecht

Our in house speech contest will be on Wednesday, February 1st. I don’t know what time yet, but I will let you know

as soon as I do. Please make sure your child has their speech material memorized by then. Students need to say the

title, and author or Bible reference and version of Bible before saying their poem, fable, or verses. Students doing

Bible memorization need to tell what the verses mean after they are done quoting them.

Spelling test 17 will be on Friday. Our verse this week is Proverbs 19:20: “Listen to advice and accept

instruction and in the end you will be wise.” We are looking at Esther this week in Bible class. We will recite Prov-

erbs 19:20 on Friday.

We are continuing to learn about Patriotic Holidays in history. We are working on counting by 3’s and

4”s in math class.

Don’t forget to be working on January’s Book-It.

The children have come back from break refreshed and amazingly calm! We are busy now getting back

to a routine and everyone is doing well.

Our weekly Bible verse is John 3:3 - In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the

kingdom of God unless he is born again." How amazing it is to watch the children grow in the Lord with this truth!

We also have been studying The Beatitudes and are almost done. One left to go.

Spelling - List 18. Pre-test is on Wednesday and test on Friday. I will work extra to get them ready since

we are short a day.

Math is going to be a big focus this semester since we need to get our multiplication facts down. You

will see math homework every week, at least one day, as we get caught up with our lessons. (continued on next page)

(continued) A highlight to this month is the Family Reading Night on January 27th at 6:00. I sent a note home about

our class book and demonstration for that program. We are very excited to present The Pilgrim Boy. More news to

come as we get ready. Any ideas for costumes would be appreciated. We are sure to have a table with interesting in-

formation, food and reports.

Thanks for all your help with keeping your child on track!

Our Scripture passage this week is Isaiah 53:5-7.

We chose speech contest items before break. Please make sure your child has memorized their piece.

They will compete in poetry, fables, or Scripture.

We are focusing on fractions in math. We are testing on list 18 in spelling tomorrow and will be on to
