impacted by the WESTPAC’s decision to discontinue the remittance services to

Pakistan among many other countries and will urge the Federal and State

governments to take steps to assist in community to resolve this issue. We are verygrateful to Shadow Minister for Immigration and Multiculturalism Michelle Rowland

RIDA AHMED BRINGS AMUNC 2015 TEAM TO

PAKISTAN

It was only 15 years back when Rida left Pakistan for the first time and has

been since then experienced the best of both Australian and Pakistanieducation system she has learnt to live in two homes and thanks to facebook

never short of REAL friends.

She has been visiting Pakistan regularly so the culture shock that other

expatriate kids experience was never a problem for her. It was in 2008 that

she made first debut in Perth with the United Nations Youth Association, and

again that year on an international level at the LUMS Model United Nations in

Lahore and since then has never turned back any offer to provide support to

young and emerging leaders in Pakistan.

When MUN was organised by Institute of Business Administration in Karachi, she even got another Australian

student (Felix Pal) to accompany her and be one of the Committee Chairs of the conference. Meanwhile she ha

been attending Global Leaders Conference in the USA and has been recognised at various levels for her

contribution.

This passion continued to grow as in 2015, once again Rida has been invited to chair multiple Model United

Nations around the world including Turkey, India and Pakistan. This is especially important to her as 2015 is the

year where she will be hosting the Asia Pacific Model United Nations Conference (AMUNC), on behalf of the

University of Western Australia, as the Secretary-General. This is the first time in the conferences’ 21-year

history that the conference is coming to Perth, Western Australia, expecting an attendance of 700+ students

from the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

Model United Nations are a very important part of the student life in Australia, as this is the best avenue for the

emerging young leaders to learn and expand their knowledge on global issues, develop skills such as

negotiation, compromise and public speaking, meet and network with thousands of like-minded students

around the world and also learn invaluable traits such as tolerance and acceptance, by putting themselves in

others’ shoes.

Rida will be attending Model UN IBA Karachi (MUNIK) and NUST International Model United Nations (NIMUN)

in January, to speak to the students in Pakistan about AMUNC and coming to Australia.. She will be going to

Pakistan alongside 3 other students: Felix Pal (University of Melbourne), Bodie D’Orazio (University of Western

Australia) and Rhys Pogonoski (University of Sydney).

She can be contacted at [email protected] or on +61 430 386 165.
