To Clergy, Religious and Laity
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
In the last week of January we join the nation in celebrating Catholic Schools Week. Our schools work continuously to remain institutions of academic excellence, deeply rooted in Christ’s teachings. However, in order to remain successful, Catholic schools depend on financial resources.
Like most things in today’s evolving world, there are significant costs associated with Catholic Education. Teachers must be paid a just wage, facilities must be kept up to date, and faculty and staff must be involved in continuing education. In addition, since the beginning of the pandemic, Catholic schools have faced serious financial challenges. Despite these obstacles, we are charged with making Catholic education more affordable.
By offering financial support to the mission and ministry of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, you are affording a child an opportunity that is otherwise out of reach. Catholic schools help form disciples who live out our Christian faith, and it is the responsibility of every Catholic to assist in these efforts. As a result, every parish in the Archdiocese of New Orleans will take up a second collection on January 30-31. Please be as generous as possible.
The funds collected through the second collection will support the Champions of Catholic Education tuition assistance fund. This fund will aid families that cannot afford the full cost of Catholic school tuition, and / or those experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19. Our Catholic school families need your support.
Thank you for your consideration in contributing to the formation and education of our young people who desire Catholic Education but are unable to afford it.
Wishing you God’s blessings and with gratitude for your generosity, I am
Sincerely in Christ
Most Reverend Gregory M. Aymond
Archbishop of New Orleans

Our Lady Star of the Sea “King Cake” Social Each one of us is invited to the King Cake Social on Sunday, January 31, 2021, after the 10 am Mass. As we celebrate the Year of St. Joseph and The Eucharist this year, we at Our Lady Star of the Sea look forward to the new year as a family united in Christ, faithful partakers of the Eucharist, and under the patronage of St. Joseph. At the social we will enjoy each other's company (with social distance), discuss future activities, and opportunities for service, and to survey the needs of parishioners. For more information, please call Ms. Danelle Bennette Dukes @ (504) 644 1111.
RCIA Program: For anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic, or those who are already baptized Catholic and have not received the Sacrament of Holy Communion or the Sacrament of Confirmation, please call the office to speak with Fr. Emanuel to attend the RCIA program/classes for this year.
Building Fund Account: We are so grateful that some of us have already started giving toward our Building Fund. The total cost of restoring the existing Church Mural is $50.000, and as of this week, we have collected $15.819. Thank you for your continued generous contributions to Our Lady Star of the Sea! May God continue to bless you, your family, and our community!
The Year of the Eucharist and St. Joseph Beginning Sunday, January 10, 2021, we all in the Archdiocese of New Orleans officially began the Year of the Eucharist and St. Joseph. Let us make this Year -2021- an opportunity to honor St. Joseph. And let us continue to build up our relationship with Christ through the Sacrament of the Eucharist by learning the meaning of the parts of the Mass, the theology of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and observing the obligation we have as Catholics to participate in Mass on Sundays.
