Weekly Income for June 20-21 2020

Today we celebrate the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Jesus promises us in today’s gospel that all our good deeds even little ones such as giving a cup of cold water to someone who is thirsty will never go in vain, rather it will be rewarded. Jesus says, "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.” (Mathew 10:37-42) And that is what we see in our today’ first reading (2 Kings 4:8-11). The story of a woman in Shunem who showed gratitude and hospitality to prophet Elisha, later received her reward. Prophet Elisha prophesied, “This time next year you will be fondling a baby son”. What a reward! She gave birth to her son a year later after so many years baren. Here is the message: The only way to receive God’s blessings in our life is to be generous with our blessings. As St. Francis of Assisi says, “It is in giving that we receive.” There are so many little ways that we can share God’s blessings in our lives such as sharing a cup of cold water as Jesus says in today’s gospel! We don’t need to wait for anything big to show our love and kindness to people around us, as Mother Theresa says, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”- “It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” So, sisters and brothers, let’s be kind and be generous with people around us. Let us do the Corporal Works of Mercy as we journey together through this life. Here are The Seven Corporal Works of Mercy: Feed the hungry. Give drink to the thirsty. Welcome the stranger. Clothe the naked. Visit the sick. Visit the prisoner. And here is what Jesus says “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Mathew 25:40). And the King will say, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (Mathew 25:34). Amen

Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty

O God our Creator, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome—for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us—this great land will always be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Composed by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops).

Parish News: Parish News:

Pastor’s Letter to parishioners: Dear parishioners of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Since June 6, public Mass has been celebrated in church using 50% of the occupancy of the church. The following directives are to be implemented for each Mass: 1. The people of the Archdiocese are dispensed from

the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. 2. If someone is vulnerable and not feeling well,

they should not celebrate Mass in church with other people.

3. Social distancing must be observed – 6 feet apart.

4. Regarding the celebration of Mass:

• Ministers and parishioners should wear a mask.

• The priest/deacons should wear a mask at communion.

• Give communion with no bodily contact. Gently let the host touch the person’s hand and drop it in their hand without touching them.

• Communion on the tongue is not encouraged.

• The chalice with the precious blood is not to be offered.

• The sign of peace can be given by bowing to the other person.

• As people depart from Mass, social distancing must be observed.

5. For all of us here at Our Lady Star of the Sea catholic Church: We will continue to have Facebook live streaming of our Sunday masses in the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience with all of this! The number who may attend will increase gradually, but in the meantime, we want to cooperate, so the virus does not spread. Stay safe and God bless you Fr. Emanuel Tanu, SVD Pastor

Be an example of faith to your brothers and sisters; let your

faith inspire others to come to know Jesus as the Christ, the

Son of the living God.
