WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ROSARY— 3 PM

BEGINNING ON NOVEMBER 14th! Are you concerned about any of the following - abortion, child abuse, the priest scandal, sexual promiscuity, euthanasia, rising crime, disrespect for God, irrational rage, special interest groups, the breakdown of the family, same sex marriage and the list goes on and on. Satan is alive and well! Do you wonder what you can do about the evil battle that he has been waging to taking over souls? He is the enemy and we need a powerful weapon. That weapon is the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the same Rosary that she particularly asked us to pray (at Fatima) for the conversion of sinners, over 100 years ago. As we pray the Rosary we are fighting beside Mary, our Holy Mother, against Satan and his evil demons. We just can’t sit by and do nothing to save souls, including your own. Please join our small but mighty group of warriors on Wednesdays at 3 pm to pray a beautiful version of the Rosary against a background of soft music. Stay for one, two, three or all four mysteries (each mystery is 18 minutes). Let’s fight the battle together!

Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power. Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. For our struggle is not with flesh and blood, but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. Ephesians 6:11-12

SOCIAL OUTREACH

A big grateful THANK YOU to the many parishioners who stepped up and donated much needed food to Our Lady’s Pantry. Since the expansion and style of our distribution program on June 25th, we have assisted more than 450 persons in need. As a result, our food inventory was becoming alarmingly low, but you recognized and responded to the need, and now we are in better shape. With the holidays fast approaching, and word of our wonderful pantry spreading about, we expect the need to remain high. To our faithful supporters since our inception in 2012, a heartfelt, THANK YOU … and to those new to this donation experience, you have probably already sensed a warm feeling knowing you have helped so many by sharing your groceries and shopping lists with those who have so little. Being the theme of this update is essentially gratitude, let us once again praise the work and effort of our tireless volunteers:

** We have the pantry group who transport the food from the narthex into our inventory … those who shop and bag for our clients on distribution days … and those who work with the perishables from pickup into the arms of our less fortunate.

** We have Our Lady’s Kitchen teams: cooks, welcomers, servers, and clean up crews, all combining to serve those wonderful hot dinners every Thursday, and never missing one since it began 6 years ago.

** We have the Advocacy group who assist those in a myriad of difficulties. e.g. Finding ways to keep their power on, their water running, and referral to agencies for rent, pharmacy, home repairs, and transportation to medical appointments. It sounds like a lot, and it is, but the cooperation, enthusiasm and support of our many volunteers make it all happen … and for that, we are beyond grateful.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES PEE DEE ~ Christmas Assistance 2018

Event Description Catholic Charities Pee Dee Regional Office are preparing to assist families in need in our area for the Christmas 2018 season. Catholic Charities is planning to provide a toy shop for families to come and “shop” for toys for their children.

Volunteer Options Collection of Toys: Volunteers needed to help pick up donated toys from various drop sites. If you are interested in volunteering for toy collection please see the number below.

Sorting of Toys: Volunteers will be needed to help sort, count and categorize incoming toys at the toy shop.

Before Distribution: Volunteers will be needed to help turn the center into a Christmas Toy Shop and set up all tables, chairs, toys, and equipment on December 18th.

Distribution Day: Volunteers are needed the day of the event (December 20th) to help with families shopping for toys, registration sign in, and restocking the toys.

Mc. 13,24-32 Los signos de desesperanza no son siempre del todo visibles, pues la falta de esperanza puede disfrazarse de optimismo superficial, activismo ciego o secreto pasotismo. Por otra parte, son bastantes los que no reconocen sentir miedo, aburrimiento, soledad y desesperanza porque, según el modelo social que se lleva, se supone que un hombre que triunfa en la vida, no puede sentirse solo, aburrido o temeroso. Otras veces, nos defendemos de nuestro «vacío de esperanza», sumergiéndonos en la actividad. No soportamos estar sin hacer nada. Necesitamos estar ocupados en algo, para

no enfrentarnos a nuestro futuro. Pero, la pregunta es inevitable: ¿qué nos espera después de tantos esfuerzos, luchas, ilusiones y sinsabores? ¿No tenemos los hombres otro objetivo sino producir cada vez más, distribuirnos cada vez mejor lo producido, y consumir más y más, hasta ser consumidos por nuestra propia caducidad? Los hombres y mujeres de nuestro tiempo necesitan en su corazón una esperanza que se mantenga viva aunque otras pequeñas esperanzas se vean malogradas e incluso completamente destrozadas. Los cristianos encontramos esta esperanza en Jesucristo y en sus palabras que «no pasarán». No esperamos algo que «no puede ser». Nuestra esperanza se apoya en el hecho inconmovible de la resurrección de Jesús.
