PASTOR’S COLUMN

Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,

“Let all the earth cry out to God with joy …” Psalm 66 When we find the path of prayer, of a relationship with God, we begin to have profound inner experiences. Even though we cannot explain these experiences, we are absolutely cer-tain of what we have lived, are living. The joy is silent, simple, but clearly feels and seems eternal. In our sufferings, a mysteri-ous presence of the Lord is found. Eternal life is clearly seen.

“May I never boast except in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ …” Galatians The experience of God always moves us towards others. What we have found is so great that we cannot contain it, but we burn with an eternal desire to give it to others.

“The Lord appointed seventy-two … sending them to every town and place … commanding them to say … the Kingdom of God is at hand for you …” Luke

The joy of being a messenger of God is incredible. In that joy we are already experiencing eternity!

“The seventy-two returned rejoicing …” Luke Monsignor Lorenzo

Bul let in Beyond the myth of the ‘bathing suit’ rule

In the past, child abuse preven on programs fo-

cused on teaching children and young people that

their “private body parts” are those parts of the

body covered by a bathing suit. Teaching the con-

cept of “total body safety” has become the latest

prac ce. It is important for children to understand

that their en re body is private. Parents should be

watchful of adults who might be “grooming” a child

by constantly ckling, kissing or hugging them. It is

important to listen to a child and respect their wish-

es if they do not want to hug or kiss someone.

Universal - Justice

That those who administer justice may work with integrity and that the injustice which prevails in the world may not have the last word.

As we approach summer, it is a good time to reflect on how our exterior presence

prepares our internal disposition to encounter the Lord.

We enter God’s house to offer worship and praise, our attitude and attire should match our belief that we are encountering a God

worthy of our respect and honor.

GOING HOME Summer me, and the scriptures are full of good news—and maybe even road trips! We hear Isaiah ex-hor ng the Israelites a er they traveled back to Jerusa-lem from their exile in Babylon. We hear the seventy-two disciples congratula ng themselves for going out to proclaim the Kingdom and coming back with tales of success. But the subtext of all of this is the ul mate road trip—Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem and the Cross. Imagine how elated the Israelites were, returning from their cap vity in Babylon. Even be er, the once-destroyed Jerusalem had been restored. Their God had saved them and they were going home. Isaiah, their prophet, assured them of God’s loving care for them, comfor ng, like a mother, giving them abundant cause for rejoicing. Yet how did they travel? The community of Israel went together, suppor ng each other, but the road must have been hard on them. Their faith and trust in the merciful God of Israel sustained them. CROSS ROADS Now imagine the seventy-two disciples being sent to preach the Kingdom and to prepare people for the Good News of Jesus coming into their lives. No food, no money, no luggage, no reserva ons—just their faith in Jesus and their op mis c enthusiasm for God’s King-dom. The Good Shepherd had sent his “lambs” into the world of wolves, with instruc ons to help them deal with rejec on and hardship. Can you imagine the disciples returning from their mission, excited, heady with the successes they experi-enced on the road? Although they a ributed their deeds to the power of the name of Jesus, they were obviously bragging about what they accomplished. In today’s second reading, Paul is wri ng to the communi-ty of Gala a, reminding them that the only appropriate boast is in the cross of Jesus Christ. Expec ng the cross, we might find that our fellow laborers in the fields have dwindled in number. So we pray for companions on our own journeys to walk with us in faithful joy.

deseos si no quieren abrazar o besar a alguien.

nuestro respeto y honor.
