PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Redemptorist) Church is a Roman Catholic community where through liturgy, prayer,
Sacramental Ministry, and Christian Education, we are formed into Disciples of the Lord, reaching out to love and wel-come one another, especially the poor and most abandoned among us. As disciples, we seek to follow Jesus’ instruc-tions to “preach” the Gospel through the way we live our lives.

And, we once again want to make a more concerted effort to reach out to our young adult members and beyond. To help us do that we will be rolling out a phone “app” shortly that will help us do that. And we hope to have a “welcoming event” for young adults in the early fall like we had three years ago that jump-started our efforts then.
+++++++++
Over the summer months we have been attending to some maintenance and restoration work on the front façade of the church and the plaza. This included replacing some of the plaza steps, restoration of broken and brittle masonry on the circle window way up high and near the center door, various caulkings both on the church and the plaza surface and walls. We still need to get to repairing or replacing the hand railings leading up the steps and up the handicap ramp.
The beautiful urns adorning the front entrance and the new fabric coverings of the sanctuary furniture were a gift from one of our parish families.
Our facilities committee and Finance Council have also been doing our due diligence on accumulating bids to replace our aging (20 year-old) air conditioning. One main unit went down earlier this summer. We deemed it too costly to repair with no guarantee it wouldn’t break down again; so we have been running on one main unit. But fall will afford us the opportunity to begin replacing the systems in plenty of time for next summer’s usage. This is the same approach, in reverse, that we used to replace the boilers last year so there was no interruption of service.
Of course all this costs money. Much of it has been covered by our Redemptorist Foundation. But we can only draw so much interest off our foundation at one time. So we are appreciative of your membership in the Foundation and your generosity in the monthly 2nd collections for church maintenance and repair. I assure you that all on the Parish Council, Finance Council, Facilities Committee, all the staff and all of us Redemptorists are committed to maintaining and keeping our church the most beautiful in Kansas City. We’re also committed to making the parish the best possible parish we can make it for you!
Together in Christ we can do all things.
Father Gary

Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Nothing like bursting one’s placid summer bubble than to hear the announcements for back to school and all the back-to-school promotions going on! Sad, but true! What was just a few weeks ago the distant drumbeats of education receding into the background, are now beating loudly upon us once again. Goodbye, dear summer!
Our campus friends at Cristo Rey start school tomorrow! Already the parking lots are filling up with the return of teachers and orientation for new students. I believe they expect an enrollment of about 380 students.
Our Lady of Hope grade school, our area consolidated Catholic grade school, on the campus of Guardian Angels Church, begins classes on the 20th of this month.
We too at Redemptorist will be gradually starting up our religious education programs. Our religious education classes are held on Tuesday evenings. Our director, Amy Acosta, is having registration for classes on Tuesday, September 11th from 6:30-8:00 pm.
It is important for all children to receive religious instruction either in Catholic school or religious education for those not attending Catholic school. It is especially important that parents of children who are age-ready for the sacraments of First Confession and First Communion (7 years of age; 2nd grade) and for the sacrament of Confirmation (high school age) be registered and begin to attend classes.
Of course, we look forward to another great year of RCIA for adults wishing to inquire about the Catholic Church with the possibility of joining us. If you know of someone, or you yourself, who would like to investigate becoming Catholic, please call the rectory and leave your name and telephone number and someone will get back to you. We expect the inquiry period to begin on September 25th at 7:00 pm in the Garden Room.
We priests at Redemptorist have also discussed conducting individual classes on spiritual and Church topics. This will be somewhat “ad hoc” as time and circumstances allow. So stayed tuned for more information about those.

Baptisms
Baptisms are scheduled on the last Sunday of each month after the 11:30 Mass.
All parents wishing to have their children baptized at Redemptorist must attend a baptism class before the baptism. We strongly prefer that the godparents of the child also attend the class.
Baptism classes are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Rectory. Call the parish office at (816) 561-3771 to register or for more information.
Marriages
To marry at Redemptorist Church, at least one of the couple must be a baptized Catholic, and both must be free to marry in the Catholic Church.
Weddings are scheduled on Saturdays at either 11:00 am, 1:30 pm or 6:30 pm. Wedding rehearsals are scheduled the Friday evening before the wedding.
Please contact a priest at least six to nine months prior to your anticipated wedding date. Call the office at (816) 561-3771 for more information.
Reconciliation
Redemptorist provides many opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation. Confessions are heard one-half hour before each weekday Mass, and on Saturdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and from 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm, or by appointment.
We also have two Parish Penance Services each year, one during Advent and one during Lent.
Please note, there are no confessions on Sundays or on holydays.

The Eucharist, although it is the fullness of sacramental life, is not a prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.
