Twenty-fifth Sunday

in Ordinary Time

SEPTEMBER 18, 2011 Today’s Gospel is about the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus tells us a story which shows us that the King-dom of Heaven sometimes does not fit with our human standards of justice. The people who worked for only one hour in the vineyard are given the same wages as those who worked all day. We can understand the complaints. The point Jesus is making is that the Kingdom of Heaven is based on grace not on merit. God is infinitely generous to whoever he chooses. He does not hoard up grace and give it out sparingly, to the hardest workers only. No, he lavishes it on anyone who is willing to receive it! In another story Jesus tells how even the people who live on the streets and the hedgerows are invited into the Kingdom. God’s ways are not our ways. His gen-erosity is far above ours. This is a lesson for all of us not to judge each other, not to try to put a limit on the graces God might be giving to others, and not to feel “entitled” because we seem to ourselves to be working harder or longer hours than others. We do not know each other’s hearts and consciences, or what graces and opportunities people have been given in the past or even in the present. Especially in this parish, we often have no idea at all how other people have lived before coming here! The lives of others on distant continents are often far beyond anything we can comprehend or even imagine. And even peo-ple’s lives here in California are not really known to us. We do not know who is most important in God’s eyes. We do not know who will be “first” and “last” at the final judgment. But one thing we do know is that God’s mercy, grace and kindness is far greater than ours. May he be praised forever! Reflection by

Vigesimo-quinto Domingo

CHÚA NHẬT XXV THƯỜNG NIÊN TWENTY FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME.

FROM OLPH SCHOOL:

Welcome back to a new school year! We are looking forward to a great year with friends, family, and God! We have some fun things planned for the upcoming months! We have many sports such as volleyball, basketball,

and football. A special thank you to Mr. Strickland and Mr. Zoll for putting a football team together. This is the first foot-ball team we have had in 3 years! We are excited to cheer and support our awesome teams! GO WOLVERINES! The drama program will be starting again along with yearbook, drumline, and dance! If you have any questions about any of these activi-ties, please contact the school office. A big thank you to our new secretary Ms. Sarah McPherson. O.L.P.H school is hon-ored to have a new member to the staff. We have been collect-ing food coupons and canned goods for father’s food pantry. We will be taking a count every Tuesday. The coupons will be collected every Thursday. Thank you for all your donations and support to help the less fortunate. We really appreciate it!!!

God Bless,

Maya Garcia and Audrey Migliore
