PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,
“The Lord appeared to Abraham as three men … and Abraham said to Him … Now that you have come close to your servant … let me bring you a little
food that you may refresh yourselves … after this the Lord said to Abraham … I will surely return to you about this time next year … and Sarah your wife
will have a son …” Genesis Hospitality and generosity are gifts that God gives us and wants us to practice with all. Abraham is a great example of this as he receives the Lord and tends to Him. When we are hospitable and generous with others, the blessings that come to us are infinite. Abraham and Sarah his wife, are blessed with a son after their encounter with God. Let us pray for a generous heart! Let us not be worried about all like Martha, but go to Jesus like Mary, and at His feet beg Him to make us like Him, who receives all and is infinitely generous with all.
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will
not be taken from her …” Luke Monsignor Lorenzo

ASK KIDS OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS
Communica on is key for making sure you are
up to date with your kids' lives, especially as they
grow older and you can't be with them every step
of the way. One way to keep communica on strong
is to ask your kids open‐ended ques ons. Kids may
not spontaneously tell you things that would be im‐
portant for you to know, so you have to consider
how to phrase ques ons that draw them in and al‐
low them to share their thoughts and experiences.
When you do ask open‐ended ques ons, make sure
you are pa ent in wai ng for the answers.

Disciples aren't just 12 men chose by Christ long ago. A disciple is one who makes Christ
the center of his or her life. “Make room there-fore for Christ, and refuse entrance to all others. When you have Christ, you are rich and have need of (nothing) else.” Thomas Á Kempis
“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of
the person entrusted with more” Luke 12:48

MARTHA, MARTHA We are blessed today with stories about rela on‐ships—human and divine—and the joys and responsi‐bili es that come along with them. They are also sto‐ries about jus ce. Our Gospel tells the familiar story of overly anxious Martha complaining to Jesus about her sister, Mary, who is not helping her with her hospitality responsibili‐
es but is si ng at Jesus’ feet. Can’t you just imagine Jesus between these two righteous women disciples? Jesus’ answer to Martha—that the ac ons of her seemingly lazy sister are actually OK—hardly seems fair. As we will show later, caring about the responsibil‐i es that come with trea ng others well brings re‐wards, but there is a difference in how one approaches the task. THOSE WHO DO JUSTICE Psalm 15 describes the life of jus ce and the reward of joy in God’s presence. We know that jus ce always involves service. Can we find joy in service, perhaps even in suffering? Saint Paul writes to the Colossians that his life of suffering service to them and to the other churches is a source of joy to him. His rela onship with them, alt‐hough filled with afflic on, is its own reward, as he brings people into rela onship with Jesus Christ. Abraham and Sarah, the righteous elderly couple of the Old Testament, are emblema c of this kind of rela‐
onship. Abraham welcomes “strangers” with eager hospitality, not knowing that his visitors are divine messengers, even the Holy One of Israel! His spouse, Sarah, does all she can to aid Abraham in making their guests comfortable and welcome. In return for their generous hospitality, the childless aged couple are re‐warded with a blessing—a son, Isaac. How do they differ from Martha, though? Martha allows her du es and service to overwhelm her with anxiety. Abraham fairly leaps for joy to be of service to his guests. If you are a Martha, the lesson is to keep serving but find the joy that gives true meaning to your service. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc
Señor mío, si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, te ruego que no pases junto a mí
Lucas
