Embellished Global Textiles and Accessories curated by Liz Hollo-way

As an international folk dancer, and seamstress I have always been inter-ested in fabric design, texture and embellishments. With immigration to the US by Individuals from around the world, we have an opportunity to see examples of both traditional costume pieces and present day garments. The items available to me include India, Pakistan, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and the US. Similarities are obvious in both em-broidery and beading.

We are indeed lucky to have such a wealth of fabric Embellishment for both every day wear and special occasion clothing. Though many coun-tries continue to wear traditional 'costume' on a more regular basis, the ' western' dress has been adopted worldwide. We can hope that items of an almost antique nature will thus be preserved.

My artistic vision is to create images that reveal the beauty of life in all forms: faces, flora and fauna, celebrat-ing the diversity of the natural world. My inspiration is the human form, the forest, the fields, the sky and the sea".

El Vacío de la Memoria / The Vacuum of MemoryWorks by Pedro Molina and Marilyn Boror Bor, curated by Paulina Velázquez Solís At 6:30 PM join us for a conversatorio/ conversation among the artists and curator, in Spanish with some English interpreting. The tragic erasure of cultural roots and political views is part of the power dynamics, violence, and metamorphosis that the Mesoamerican region has experienced through colonization and struggles against dictator-ships and civil wars. This exhibition features works by two artists from the Central American isthmus, a region particularly tender from these experi-ences and the consequences of geopolitical interests. Pedro Molina from Nicaragua evokes the weight of the effects of the Sandinista revolution gone wrong, loss of life, and his experience as an exile. Marilyn Boror Bor from Guatemala documents Kaqchikel words and objects that have been marginalized for centuries but still make their way into contemporary life.

Presented at the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) by Cultu-ra Ithaca and the Latino Civic Association of Tompkins County for Latinx Heritage Month.

This Gallery requires all patrons to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status.

Sue Hertz - “Here and There”

Sue Hertz’s art space has four rooms adorned with paintings depict-ing local scenes as well as scenes from her travels in the U.S. and abroad. Also displayed is a series of photographs of Cayuga Lake that were all shot from the same location but look remarkably distinct from one another. Water is featured in many of the works, as Sue is fascinated by its ever-changing interplay of colors, textures, and movements. Sue’s art space is also where, in her other life, she carries out her speech synthesis endeavors. She is intrigued by the similarities in how humans perceive the visual and auditory world around them, and she strives in both of her endeavors to create the appropriate cues (contrasts, intensities, etc.) to effectively render her intent, be it in the form of a painting or a synthetic utterance. www.suehertzfineart.com
