    THE RECORDS - - Iowa is 1-0 aer opening the season with a

    31-14 home win over Illinois State. The Hawkeyes were 7-6 lastseason, earning a trip to the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl. Iowa was 4-4in Big Ten play and 3-2 in nonconference games last season.

    Iowa State is 1-0, opening the season with a 31-7 home win overNorthern Iowa. The Cyclones were 2-10 in 2014.

     THE SERIES - - Iowa holds a 40-22 advantage in the series thatbegan with a 16-8 ISU win in 1894. The Hawkeyes have won fourof the last seven meengs, but the Cyclones won 20-17 last sea-son in Kinnick Stadium and have won two of the last three. Thevising team has won the last three meengs and the last fourgames have been decided by six points or less.

    The teams have met every year since 1977.

    IOWA CORN CY-HAWK TROPHY - - Iowa Corn is the sponsorofthe Cy-Hawk Series, including the annual football game betweenthe two schools. Iowa and ISU have played for the Cy-Hawk Trophyfrom the me the series resumed in 1977, with the Hawkeyesholding a 24-14 advantage in those games.

    Saturday’s game is the third event in the 12th annual IowaCorn Cy-Hawk Series. Iowa and Iowa State meet in both soccerand volleyball Friday in Iowa City. ISU leads the allme Cy-HawkSeries, 6-5.

    2014. The Hawkeyes combined for 104 rushes and347 rushing yards in those games.

      Ten acve Hawkeyes, ve on oense and ve on defense, have previously started

    games against Iowa State. C Ausn Blythe is making his fourth start against the Cy-clones. RG Jordan Walsh, DE Drew O, and DB Desmond King are making their third

    starts in the series. Other Hawkeyes with starng experience in the Cy-Hawk Series

    IOWA VS. THE BIG 12

      Iowa holds an all-me record of 55-34 (.618) against current members of the Big

    12 Conference, having met all but Baylor and West Virginia at least once. Iowa State

    is the only Big 12 opponent on the Hawkeye schedule this season.

      LAST MEETING

      Iowa State rallied from a 14-3 halime decit to edge Iowa, 20-17, in front of a

    sold out crowd at Kinnick Stadium on Sept. 13, 2014.

      RB Mark Weisman and QB Jake Rudock

    accounted for Iowa’s rst-half touchdowns.

    Weisman scored from 1-yard to cap a 16-play,

    55-yard drive that consumed 7:54 o the play

    clock in the rst quarter. Rudock’s 5-yard run

    completed a 10-play drive that saw Iowa con-

    vert two fourth-down plays.

    I owa thwarted a Cyclone scoring threat late

    in the second quarter when LB Quinton Alston

    forced an ISU fumble at the goal line. CB GregMabin recovered the fumble in the end zone

    with 1:28 le in the rst half.

      Iowa State quarterback Sam Richardson connected with WR EJ Bibbs in the end

    zone on a fourth-and-one midway through the third period to make the score 14-10.

    Later in the fourth quarter, the Cyclones claimed the lead on a 27-yard touchdown

    pass from Richardson to RB DeVondrick Nealy.

      Iowa ed the game on its ensuing drive with a 44-yard eld goal from Marshall

    Koehn. The Cyclones answered with a 51-yard drive that culminated with Cole Net-

    ten’s game-winning 42-yard eld goal with two seconds remaining. Neen also split

    the uprights from 47 yards in the rst period.

      Rudock nished the game 16-of-24 for 146 yards. Richardson completed 25-of-37

    passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns for the Cyclones.  Weisman led the Hawkeye ground aack, rushing 16 mes for 49 yards, while

    Aaron Wimberly led Iowa State’s ground game with 33 yards on 11 carries.

      THE 99-YARD DRIVE 

      Iowa put together a 99-yard scoring drive on its second possession of the season.

    It was the Hawkeyes’ rst 99-yard touchdown drive since 2002. Iowa passed six mes

    and rushed six mes while converng ve rst downs on the drive. QB C.J. Beathard

    was 4-of-6 passing for 63 yards. He also carried once for two yards. RB LeShun Daniels,

    Jr., carried four mes for 18 yards, and RB Jordan Canzeri took his rst carry of the

    season ve yards into the endzone. Canzeri also had a 21-yard recepon.

    YARDS, RECEPTIONS TO FILL

      Iowa opened the 2015 season without its returning leader in

    passing yards (Jake Rudock, 2,436), rushing yards (Mark Weisman,

    812) or recepons (Kevonte Marn-Manley, 52). It is the rst me

    since 2004 Iowa opened the season without a returning stas-

    cal leader in at least one of those categories (2003: QB Nathan

    Chandler, RB Fred Russell, WR Ramon Ochoa).

      In the season opener a trio of juniors stepped into those stas-

    cal roles. QB C.J. Beathard passed for 211 yards in his rst career

    start at Kinnick Stadium. RB LeShun Daniels rushed for 123 yards

    in his rst career start, and WR Ma VandeBerg caught six passes,

    one for a touchdown.

    QB C.J. BEATHARD (SO., 6-2, 209)

      Career Games Played/Starts: 15-2

      Junior QB C.J. Beathard improved to 2-0 as Iowa’s starng quar-

    terback following Iowa’s 31-14 win over Illinois State. Beathard

    made his rst career start at Kinnick Stadium on Sept. 5. He was15-of-24 for 211 yards passing and one touchdown. He rushed

    eight mes for 26 yards and two touchdowns. The eight rushing

    aempts were a career high. He became the fourth quarterback

    during the Ferentz era to record a passer rang over 150 on a

    season opener: Drew Tate (2006), Ricky Stanzi (2010), James Van-

    denberg (2001), and C.J. Beathard’s 150.1 rang in 2015. Beathard

    has never played against Iowa State.

    Beathard is 32-of-61 passing for 456 yards and two touchdowns

    in two career starts. He has also rushed for 55 yards and a pair of

    touchdowns in those starts.

      Beathard in 3-2-1:

    • Making his third career start (2-0), second on the road (1-0).He won 24-10 at Purdue in 2014.

    • Named Iowa’s starng quarterback in January 2015, just two

    weeks aer compleng 13-of-23 passes for 145 yards and a

    career-high two touchdowns (31, 18) at the 2015 TaxSlayer

    Bowl.

    • Against Illinois State, he became the rst Iowa quarterback

      OL AUSTIN BLYTHE (SR., 6-3, 290)

      Senior C Ausn Blythe is making his fourth straight start againstthe Cyclones. Blythe has started at center in each of the last two

    seasons, and was Iowa’s starng right guard as a redshirt freshman

    in 2012.

    Blythe in 3-2-1:

    Kirk Ferentz (pronounced FAIR-rintz,

      Junior RB LeShun Daniels set career highs in carries (26), rushing yards (123), and

    longest rush (27) in his rst career start against Illinois State. He was Iowa’s eighth dif -

    ferent opening day starng running back since 2007. Daniels has played in 13 career

    games, but none against the Cyclones.

    • Missed the nal ve regular season games in 2014 due to injury and saw limited

      Senior RB Jordan Canzeri had 118 all-purpose yards (28 rushing, 90 receiving) in

    the season opener. The 90 receiving yards were a career best and the second most

    by a Hawkeye running back under Kirk Ferentz (100 by Damon Bullock at Maryland

    in 2014), and his 51-yard recepon in the second period was a career long. Canzeriranked second on the team with 752 all-purpose yards in 2014, including 494 yards

    rushing, 123 yards receiving, and 135 yards in kicko returns. He was the only player

    on the team with 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving.

    Canzeri in 3-2-1:

    • Has 1,117 career rushing yards, one of 45 players in program history with 1,000

    career rushing yards.

    • Rushed for a team-high 120 yards on 12 carries against Tennessee in the 2015

    TaxSlayer Bowl. Had a game-high 148 all-purpose yards in the bowl game, add-

    ROOKIE TACKLES MAKING THE GRADE 

      Iowa starng tackles LT Boone Myers and RT Ike Boeger en-

    tered 2015 with one combined career start (Boeger started as

    a second ght end against Wisconsin in 2014). The sophomores

    replace a pair of NFL lineman -- 2014 Outland Trophy winner LT

    Brandon Scher (Washington Redskins) and RT Andrew Donnal

    (St. Louis Rams).

    Iowa rushed for 210 yards and did not allow a sack in the 2015

    season opener against Illinois State.

    Myers joined the program as a walk-on and was put on schol-

    arship prior to the 2014 season. He saw acon in four games last

    season. Boeger joined the team as a ght end but was moved to

    oensive line in 2013. He saw acon in seven games as a redshirt

    freshman in 2014.

    FIND THE NFL-ER

      Since 1999, Kirk Ferentz’s rst year as UI head coach, the

    Hawkeyes have had a future NFL player start on the oensive

    line in every season.

    In each of the last eight years, an eventual NFL rst-round dra

    pick started on the oensive line. Brandon Scher, selected by the

    Washington Redskins h overall in 2015, was Iowa’s le tackle

    from 2012-14. Riley Rei, selected 23rd overall by the Detroit

    Lions in 2012, started at le tackle from 2010-11. Bryan Bulaga,

    selected 23rd overall by the Green Bay Packers in 2010, started

    at le guard in 2007 before moving to le tackle in 2008-09.

    From 2005-06, Balmore Ravens All-Pro Marshal Yanda shared

    me at tackle and guard for the Hawkeyes. Mike Elgin, a seventh

    round selecon of New England, was Iowa’s starng center in

    2004. Pete McMahon, draed by Oakland in 2005, was Iowa’sright guard in 2003. Oakland’s rst round pick in 2004, Robert

    Gallery, was Iowa’s le tackle from 2001-03. Eric Steinbach (Cin-

    cinna) started at guard for Iowa from 2000-02, and Bruce Nelson

    (Carolina) was a four-year starter from 1999-02. Both players were

    second round dra picks in 2003.

      PAULSENS ARE A FAMILIAR FACE 

      Freshmen Landan and Levi Paulsen are the sixth set of twins

    to play football at the University of Iowa. The oensive linemen

    from Woodbury High School in Northwest Iowa join the company

    of Leo and Lloyd Jensvold (1929-30), Harold and Herbert Shoener

    (1946-47), Kent and Kevin Ellis (1977-80), Aaron and Evan Kooiker(1992), and Shane and Shaun Prater (2008).

      The Paulsens are one of three sets of brothers on Iowa’s 2015

    roster, joining DB Kevin Ward and OL Ryan Ward, and OL James

    Daniels and RB LeShun Daniels.

      TURN ON THE LIGHTS

      For the rst me in program history Iowa plays two night

    games at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes’ host Pisburgh on

    Saturday, Sept. 19, and Minnesota on Saturday, Nov. 14. Both

    games are televised live on BTN beginning at 7 p.m. (CT).

      Iowa has not played a night game at Kinnick Stadium since

    entertaining Penn State in October, 2012. Iowa has hosted 10

    evening games in Kinnick Stadium, with ve of those starng

      Iowa is 6-4 in night games in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa has wins

    over Northwestern (2011), Penn State (2010), Michigan (2009),

    Syracuse (2007), Arizona State (2003), and Northern Illinois

    (1999), and losses to Penn State (2012), Ohio State (2006), Iowa

    State (2002), and Miami, Florida (1992).

      GLANCE AT THE SCHEDULE 

    • The Hawkeyes open Big Ten play at Wisconsin on Oct.

    3. This marks the 13th me in Kirk Ferentz’s 17 years at

    Iowa that the Hawkeyes open the conference season on

    the road.

    • For the rst me in program history Iowa plays more than

    one night game at Kinnick Stadium. Home games against

    Pi (Sept. 19) and Minnesota (Nov. 14) kicko at 7 p.m.

    (CT). Both games are televised on BTN.

    • The Hawkeyes defeated Illinois State, 31-14, in the season

    opener. The Redbirds lost to North Dakota State in the

    2014 FCS tle game. Iowa opens the 2016 season hosng

    North Dakota State.

    • Iowa will face Maryland on Oct. 31 in Iowa City. It marks

    Maryland’s rst football game in Iowa City. It also marks

    the 16th me in Iowa program history the Hawkeyes play

    on Halloween (6-8-1).

    • The Hawkeyes do not face Big Ten opponents Michigan,

    Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, and Rutgers.

    • Iowa’s Homecoming game is Oct. 10 against Illinois at 11a.m. Iowa is 56-42-5 all-me in Homecoming contests,

    and has won ve of its last Homecoming games. Illinois

    is vising Kinnick Stadium for the rst me since 2007.

    • Three of Iowa’s nonconference opponents are led by

    coaches who have been assistants in the Big Ten, includ-

    ing Illinois State’s Brock Spack (Purdue), Pi’s Pat Narduzzi

    (Michigan State), and North Texas’ Dan McCarney (Iowa,

    Wisconsin). Iowa State’s Paul Rhoads was a graduate as-

    sistant under John Cooper at Ohio State.

    • North Texas head coach Dan McCarney and North Texas

    quarterback Andrew McNulty are Iowa City, Iowa, naves.

    McNulty was North Texas’ leading passer in 2014.• North Texas head coach Dan McCarney is the second Iowa

    City nave in the last three seasons to coach in Kinnick

    Stadium (Terry Allen, Missouri State, 2013). McCarney, a

    Hawkeye assistant from 1977-89, will make his seventh

    appearance on the opposing sideline at Kinnick. He was

    3-3 as a visitor as Iowa State’s head coach.

    • Iowa has four trophy games on its schedule in 2015: Iowa

    State (Cy-Hawk), Minnesota (Floyd of Rosedale), Wiscon-

    sin (Heartland), and Nebraska (Heroes).

    HAWKEYES AT THE HEAD OF CLASS IN COACHING LANDSCAPE

    The University of Iowa has produced more acve FBS head coaches than any other

    school. Bret Bielema (Arkansas), Bob Diaco (UCONN), Dan McCarney (North Texas), Bob

    Stoops (Oklahoma), and Mark Stoops (Kentucky) all earned undergraduate degrees

    from the University of Iowa. Bielema, Diaco, Bob Stoops, and Mark Stoops played

    for former UI head coach Hayden Fry. McCarney played on teams coached by Frank

    Lauterbur and Bob Commings. All ve head coaches served as assistants under Fry.

    Bielema played on the defensive line from 1989-92. He was team captain his senior

    season, played in the 1991 Rose Bowl, and served as an assistant coach on the Iowa

    sta from 1993-2001.

    Diaco played linebacker from 1992-95 and was a graduate assistant on the sta

    from 1996-97. The Hawkeyes advanced to the Alamo Bowl in 1996 and the Sun Bowl

    in 1997.

    Bob Stoops was a defensive back from 1979-82. He was named team MVP in 1982,

    and played in the 1982 Rose Bowl and 1982 Peach Bowl. He served on the Iowa sta

    from 1983-87.

      Mark Stoops was a defensive back from 1987-89. He played in the 1987 Holiday

    Bowl and 1988 Peach Bowl, and served as a graduate assistant coach from 1989-91.

    McCarney played on the oensive line from 1972-74. He was named team captain

    his senior season, and eventually joined Fry’s sta in 1977. He was an assistant coach

    at Iowa from 1977-89.

      HAWKEYE HUDDLE TAILGATE

    Show your Hawkeye pride at the Iowa-Iowa State Hawkeye Huddle Tailgate in Ames,

    Iowa, on Saturday, September 12. This parcular huddle features a NEW tailgate-style

    format. Admission is $25 per person, which includes a lunch buet and two drink

    ckets. A cash bar will be available.

      With kicko set for 3:45 p.m., join Herky the Hawk, Iowa cheerleaders, a live DJ,

    and fellow Hawkeyes from noon to 3:15 p.m. in the south tent area along University

    Boulevard.

    Iowa’s Creave Corridor proudly presents the 2015 Hawkeye Huddles at all away

    games. Hawkeye Huddles are hosted by the Naonal I-Club and the University of Iowa

      FERENTZ SECOND IN LONGEVITY 

      Kirk Ferentz enters his 17th season as Iowa’s head football coach and ranks second

    in longevity among FBS head coaches. Ferentz is rst among Big Ten coaches and

    naonally ranks behind Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer (28). Ferentz is ed for second

    with Bob Stoops of Oklahoma.

      FERENTZ AMONG TOP 10 

      Head coach Kirk Ferentz has 116 wins as a member of the Big Ten Conference,the ninth most in conference history. He has 68 Big Ten wins, also the ninth most in

    conference history. He is 1-of-8 coaches to rank among the top 10 in both categories.

    The others include Woody Hayes (OSU), Amos Alonzo Stagg (CHI), Bo Schembechler

    (MICH), Hayden Fry (IOWA), Robert Zuppke (ILL), Lloyd Carr (MICH), and Barry Alvarez

    (WIS).

      Ferentz also has six bowl wins as a member of the Big Ten, tying Fry and Carr for

    No. 2 all-me. Only Alvarez has more (9).

    • The Hawkeyes have earned bowl eligibility in 13 of the last 14 seasons.

    • Iowa earned Big Ten Conference championships in 2002 and 2004 and placed

    second in 2009. Iowa (8-0, 2002) is one of four Big Ten teams to post a perfect

    mark in conference play since 1998 (BCS era).

    • Iowa has ranked in the top 10 in the nal Associated Press and CNN/USA Today

    coaches polls in four mes since 2002, including a ranking of seventh in both

    polls at the conclusion of the 2009 season. Iowa ranked eighth in 2002, 2003

    and 2004 and the Hawkeyes were also 20th in 2008.

    • Since 1936 when the rst AP poll was released, Iowa has appeared the poll 297

    mes, the h highest total in the Big Ten (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin,

    MSU). Iowa has been the top-ranked team in the country 11 mes.

    • Iowa established a school record with 11 wins in 2002 (11-2) and matched that

    a record of 77-40-4 (.652) during the 1980’s and the Hawkeyes were 62-53-2(.538) in the 1990’s.

    • Part of the Hawkeyes’ long term success is due to the stability in the program.

    Iowa has had just two head coaches since 1979. Hayden Fry took over prior

    to the 1979 season and coached through the 1998 season, posng a record of

    143-89-6. Current coach Kirk Ferentz replaced Fry, leading the program for the

    17th season. Ferentz also served as Iowa’s oensive line coach from 1981-89

    under Fry.

      Iowa has posted a 6-6 bowl record under head coach Kirk Ferentz. Since the 2001

    or blocked PAT, the longest streak of any school in the naon. Iow

    KIRK FERENTZ RADIO SHOW 

      Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz is featured on “Hawk Talk with Kirk Ferentz” each week

    beginning Wednesday, Sept. 2. The 90-minute radio call-in show is hosted by Gary

    Dolphin, the play-by-play voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes. The show airs each Wednesday

    evening at 6:30 p.m. from Carlos O’Kelly’s in Iowa City.

      IOWA LEADERSHIP GROUP 

      The University of Iowa football program has 16 players on its 2015 Leadership

    Group, including 13 seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore. The purpose of the

    group is to assist in formulang policies, and being involved in team decision-making

    maers regarding the upcoming season. Players are selected by a team vote.

      The seniors are OL Ausn Blythe, RB Jordan Canzeri, DL Darian Cooper, FB AdamCox, TE Jake Duzey, WR Jacob Hillyer, PK Marshall Koehn, DB Jordan Lomax, DE Nate

    Meier, DE Drew O, LB Travis Perry, FB Macon Plewa and WR Tevaun Smith. The ju-

    nior class is represented by QB C.J. Beathard and RB LeShun Daniels, Jr., and LB Josey

    Jewell represents the sophomore class.

     ALL IN THE FAMILY 

      Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has two of his three sons involved in the Iowa program

    again in 2015. Brian, a former Hawkeye leerman and captain (2003-05), is in his

    fourth season as Iowa’s oensive line coach. Steven is an oensive lineman who is in

    his fourth season as a redshirt junior. James Ferentz was a three-year starter on the

    Hawkeye oensive line and a team captain before graduang in May 2013. Ferentz

    is the only FBS coach ever to coach three sons at the same school.

      MORE THAN ONE 

      Eleven high schools have contributed more than one player to the current Iowa

    football roster. Dowling Catholic HS in West Des Moines, Iowa; Providence Catholic

    HS in Homer Glen, Illinois; and Solon HS in Solon, Iowa, all graduated three current

    Hawkeyes. The schools with two current Hawkeyes include DeMatha Catholic HS

    (Washington, D.C.), Harding HS (Warren, Ohio), Regina HS (Iowa City, Iowa), Waukee

    HS (Waukee, Iowa), West Branch HS (West Branch, Iowa), West Lyon HS (Inwood,

    Iowa), Williamsburg HS (Williamsburg, Iowa), Woodbury Central HS (Moville, Iowa).

    THE HAWKEYES, SIZE WISE 

      Redshirt freshman WR Brandon Bishop and freshman WR Emmanuel Ogwo arethe lightest Hawkeye players at 170 pounds. Junior DL Jaleel Johnson is the heaviest

    at 310 pounds. A total of seven Hawkeye players are listed at 300 pounds or more.

    The tallest player at 6-8 is redshirt freshman DE Ma Nelson. The shortest player,

    at 5-8, is sophomore WR Jonathan Parker.

      The average Hawkeye player is 6-2 and weighs 232 pounds. That is the one inch

    taller and two pounds heavier than the average Iowa player in 2013.

    LAST TIME OUT 

      Iowa scored the game’s rst 31 points en route to a 31-14

    season-opening victory over Illinois State at Kinnick Stadium.

    In his second career start, rst at home, QB C.J. Beathard ac-

    counted for three touchdowns (two rushing and one passing),

    while throwing for 211 yards (15-of-24). Beathard scored on runsof six and one yard, while compleng a 9-yard score to WR Ma

    VandeBerg. Beathard became the rst Hawkeye quarterback to

    rush for two TD’s and pass for another in a game since Brad Banks

    at Minnesota in 2002.

      The Hawkeyes dominated

    the game in the trenches,

    rushing 44 times for 210

    yards offensively, and col-

    lecting 10 tackles for loss,

    including ve rst-half sacks,

    defensively.

      RB LeShun Daniels andRB Jordan Canzeri led the

    Hawkeyes oensively, com-

    bining for 241 all-purpose yards. Daniels led the Hawkeye ground

    aack rushing for 123 yards on 26 aempts. Canzeri had a game-

    best 90 yards receiving on four catches, while also rushing for 28

    yards and a TD on ve carries.

      Iowa took a 17-0 lead into halime aer PK Marshall Koehn split

    the uprights from 40 yards as me expired in the second quarter.

    The eld goal followed rushing scores from Beathard (six yards)

    and Canzeri (ve yards) earlier in the half. Canzeri’s score capped

    o a 12-play, 99-yard drive -- Iowa’s rst 99-yard TD drive since its

    game at Miami (OH) in 2002.  The only scoring in the third quarter was VandeBerg’s 9-yard

    recepon. Beathard closed out the Hawkeye scoring with a one-

    yard plunge midway through the fourth quarter. Illinois State

    added two late touchdowns against the Hawkeyes’ second unit.

      The Hawkeye defense was in the Illinois State backeld applying

    pressure most of the aernoon. DE Drew O had two sacks for

    a combined loss of 20 yards. DE Nate Meier had two tackles for

    loss, including a sack, while LB Ben Niemann had 2.5 tackles for

    loss, including a sack. LB Cole Fisher led the team with eight total

    tackles. DT Nathan Bazata had a sack and blocked Illinois State’s

    50-yard eld goal aempt.

      As a unit, the Hawkeyes held the Redbirds to 35 yards rushingon 28 aempts, including zero yards on 15 carries in the rst half.
