Live-Work Loft
Project Description The assignment is to redesign the interior of an existing mixed use building based on an architectural shell and client program (requirements (to be provided by the instructor). The exterior architecture of the building must remain unchanged. Students will be required to identify a design concept and create a design solution that meets the needs of the client’s program requirements. In addition, each student will be required to develop a sustainability statement that identifies specific sustainable concepts and features that will be incorporated in the final design of the project. This project will be divided into two parts, research and design. Research topics will be assigned by the instructor and explored and presented by the team. The design portion of the project will be executed on an individual basis.
Design Concept Statement The design of this loft apartment will be an open concept that seamlessly blends together live and work environments into one cohesive space. Main concepts to be focused on include the occupant’s love for music, reading, and the outdoors. This will inspire a creative and relaxing vibe achieved with modern and earthy elements. Combining industrial with natural features is sure to create an iconic look.

Syrian Refugee Center
Project Description For this project, students will be required to research the unique needs of the refugees and design a space that provides the facilities necessary to support their immedi-ate need for physical shelter. In ad-dition, the design must also address the need for an environment that provides a sense of stability, security, and normalcy, and promotes overall physical and emotional welfare. Your research should influence creative and critical thinking skills in order to propose an “informed design” solution.
Design Concept Statement The design of this refugee cen-ter will be a welcoming environment for the refugees in their time of need by using a grid layout for circula-tion with open pockets of interest-ing spaces mixed in throughout the building. To make the refugees feel more at home, inspiration will come from their home country in terms of patterns, color palette, and textiles. Materials used will not only be readily available to ensure a quick turn around time for this project, but also sustainable to be a low impact building.
