Laser List Building

In this training, I’m going to show you how to use solo ads to build your email list.

You don’t need to have a big list in place, and you don’t need to have a good

relationship with affiliates. All that you need to do is to incorporate a few

techniques and you will be able to build a list.

Let’s begin by looking at solo ads.

Introduction to Solo Ads

A solo ad is an ad that runs on someone else’s email list. Basically, you’ll pay

someone else to email your ad to his list. The email should include a

recommendation and link to your offer or squeeze page. While some people include a

link to the offer, I recommend providing a link to your squeeze page so you can

collect email addresses.

Page 4: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

Basically, you’ll put a link in to the squeeze page, and the page will have an opt-in

form. If people sign up for your email list via the opt-in form, they’ll receive a free

gift. Then, they’ll be redirected to your offer.

Benefits of Solo Ads

There are lots of benefits to running solo ads. First, they can help you build a list.

Once you build a list, it’s your asset. You can use it to advertise your products and

make lots of sales.

On top of that, you don’t have to incorporate SEO into solo ads. Thus, you don’t

have to do a lot of research and spend a lot of time creating solo ads.

Along with that, Google doesn’t have control over your solo ads. It’s not like

AdWords, where they can slap you for selling affiliate products. You’re really in

control of everything with solo ads.

Finally, solo ads allow you to advertise to a warm list instead of cold traffic. As you

know, a warm list is more likely to purchase a product than cold traffic is, so this is

really important.

Now you’re ready to learn how to create and run solo ads. The first thing you need

to do is find a profitable niche.

Find a Profitable Niche

There are several tools that you can use to find a profitable niche. For instance, lots

of people use Google Trends to find out what’s hot. ClickBank is another top

resource. You can use ClickBank to find high gravity (i.e. popular and profitable)

products. On top of that, Alexa has a “Hot Topics” section that is really helpful

when looking for popular niches and products.

While these are all great resources, I really recommend that beginners stick with

one of the big three niches. The big three are health and fitness, making money

online and dating and relationship advice. These three niches are incredibly popular

and have helped affiliates make lots of money.

Once you choose one of the big three niches, you need to select a sub niche. For

example, if you choose “dating and relationship advice,” you can narrow it down by

providing that advice to people who are divorced or widowed.

Page 6: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

Keyword Research

Once you select your niche, you need to conduct keyword research. You will use the

AdWords Keyword Tool to find keywords that you will target. When you use the

tool, you want to look for keywords that have a high search volume and a high CPC.

Search volume refers to the number of people who search for the keyword. CPC

refers to the cost per click. The higher the CPC, the more people are paying to rank

for that specific keyword. Keywords with high CPCs are profitable.

It’s important to note that you’re not actually going to bid on the keywords. The

entire reason you’re looking for keywords is so you can find blogs in your niche.

Thus, just go to the tool and type keyword ideas into the search box. Then, find

keywords that meet the criteria and move on to the next step.

Find Blogs that Rank for Keywords

Now, you’re ready to find blogs that rank for the keywords you found. That way, you

can find people to run your solo ads for you.

Page 7: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

6

This is a really simple process. You’re just going to go to Google and type in the

keywords that you found on the AdWords Keyword Tool. Then, you’ll need to go to

the toolbar on the left hand side of the page and click “blogs.”

Next, you’ll need to copy the contact information for all of the blogs that are located

on the first page of Google’s results. Once you do that, you can copy and paste the

following sample email. You’ll need to personalize it and then you can send it out to

the blog owners.

Sample Script

Hello (website owner’s name),

My name is (your name). I am an advertiser and I just came

across your blog through Google. Your blog is pretty cool! I was

wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list.

Negotiating the Deal

You’ll likely hear back from blog owners shortly after you send the initial email.

Once you start receiving responses, it will be time to nail down the details.

There are two questions you need to ask blog owners. Ask them:

Send those two questions out. Then, you can start the negotiation process.

What do you charge to place an ad in one of your emails to your list?

Would it be okay if I run a test ad so I can know how much I can pay and still be profitable?

Page 9: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

8

Try to Find a Win-Win Price

When it comes time to negotiate, you want to find something that makes both you

and the blog owner happy. Also, be sure to factor in your return on investment

when looking at price. That’s where test ads can really help. For example, let’s say

that the blog owner agrees to run a test ad free of charge. He sends the ad out to

10% of his list. You can calculate the sales you make and come up with a price

based on how many sales you project you’ll make when the ad goes out to 100% of

the list.

Your Offer

Now that you know how to find and contact blog owners, I want to change the focus

to the actual offer you will promote. You can find products to promote on sites like

ClickBank, Commission Junction and Amazon. The first two have digital

information products, while Amazon has an assortment of physical products.

When you look for products on these networks, you need to look for email swipes on

their affiliate pages. Email swipes are emails provided by vendors. These emails are

written by professional copywriters. You can copy the email and input your affiliate

link. Then, you’ll have your solo ad ready.

Now, let’s take a closer look at the networks.

ClickBank

ClickBank is one of the most popular affiliate networks available. It has a great

reputation for paying people on time, and has thousands of products for marketers

to choose from.

Before you can start benefiting from ClickBank, you need to create an account. Go

to ClickBank.com and click “Sign Up” at the top of the page.

Then, fill out the sign up form. Near the bottom, you’ll see a box for your account

nickname. Choose something generic like “Index554.” The reason for that is your

username will actually show up in the affiliate link.

Once you fill out the form, ClickBank will send you the log in information. Then,

you can log in and go to ClickBank’s marketplace.

When you get to the marketplace, you’ll see a list of categories on the left hand side

of the page. These categories all contain products you can market.

Page 11: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

10

If you want to search through the most popular products on ClickBank, just go to

the search bar that says “Find Products.” Don’t type anything into the search bar.

Just hit the search button. Then, a list of the most popular products will come up.

You can also go to the sort bar and sort results using different factors, such as

average rebill total.

The Truth About Abs is one of the most popular products on ClickBank. Let’s say

you wanted to promote it. You would click “Promote.”

Then, a box will pop up. You’ll need to put your account nickname into the first box.

Next, there’s a box for a tracking ID. You can use this box if you’re planning on

promoting an offer on several different websites. That way, you’ll know which sites

are making the sales. However, you don’t have to put a tracking ID into the box.

Page 12: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

11

Next, you’ll click “Create.” Once you do that, you’ll be taken to a new page with your

hoplink. This is the link that will track your sales. You’ll use it in your promotional

materials. If people click on it and make a purchase, the purchase will be credited to

your account.

Copy that link into a web browser and take a look at it. As you can see, it’s a big

link, and it’s not very attractive. Fortunately, there are a couple of things you can

do to make the link look better.

First, let’s go to TinyURL.com. Once there, paste your affiliate link into the box.

Then, make a custom alias if you wish. For example, if you were promoting a muscle

building product, your custom alias could be “GetRipped2Day.”

Now, you have a new link that you can use. It’s smaller, but it has “tinyURL.com” in

it.

The next option is to purchase a domain and hosting plan, and then forward your

domain to your affiliate URL. Forwarding is relatively easy, and you can find

everything you need online. For example, if you want to purchase and forward a

Page 13: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

12

NameCheap domain, must go to Google and search “forward NameCheap domain.”

Lots of resources and information will come up.

Once you forward your domain, you’ll be able to send people directly to your offer.

It’s important to note, though, that Facebook, Google AdWords and some other sites

won’t let advertisers send people directly to affiliate offers. Fortunately, you can get

around that by setting up a website or blog. Then, you can drive traffic to your site

or blog, promote the product there, and then redirect the traffic to the offer. If you

do that, you won’t even really need to worry about changing your URL. You can

hyperlink it inside of the blog, so people won’t actually see all the unattractive code.

Now, let’s look at Amazon.

13

Amazon

Amazon is also a great option for affiliates. Not only does Amazon offer a large

assortment of products, but people can look at reviews and ratings right on the site.

If a product has a good rating and lots of great reviews, it practically sells itself.

With that in mind, let’s go over the things you need to look for when picking

products to market on Amazon.

Rating

Make sure a product has at least a 3 ½ star rating on Amazon. That means it is a

quality product that will convert well.

Reviews

You should also make sure the product has at least ten reviews. Not only does the

product need at least ten reviews, but those reviews need to be positive.

Page 15: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

14

Price

You should also look for products that are at least $250. That’s because when you

first start out with Amazon, you only earn a 4% commission. That commission will

go up as you sell products. However, by marketing products that are worth at least

$250, you can make some serious money right out the gate.

Finding Products on Amazon

Now that you know what to look for, I’m going to show you how to actually find

products. Go to Amazon.com and click on “Full Store Directory.” You’ll find that on

the left hand side of the page.

Then, you’ll be redirected to a page that has a list of categories.

Let’s click on “Camera, Photo & Video” underneath “Electronics & Computers.”

Page 16: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

15

Now let’s select “Point-and-Shoots.”

Now, we want to set some filters. First, go to the left hand side of the page and

scroll down to price. Put $250 in as the minimum price. Then click “Go.”

Then, go back to the left hand side of the page and click on three stars and up under

“Avg. Customer Review.”

Page 17: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

16

Now, as we look through these products, we need to look at the number of reviews.

Once you find one you like, click on the product and put all of the relevant

information into a Word document. You need to include the product name, URL,

price, rating, reviews, and any other relevant information.

You want to continue looking until you find ten products. Once you find your

products, you can sign up for the affiliate program at https://affiliate-

program.amazon.com/.

After you get your products in place, you’ll be ready to move on to the next step,

which is creating a squeeze page.

Creating a Squeeze Page

When people click on the link in your solo ad, they’ll go to your squeeze page. Once

there, they’ll enter their information into your opt-in form, receive a free gift, and

get the chance to purchase your product.

The first thing you’ll need to do is create your squeeze page. Fortunately, you can

hire someone to do that for you, and it will only cost you $5. Just head over to

Fiverr.com, go to the search box and type “opt-in page” or “squeeze page.”

Page 18: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

17

Now, you’ll get a list of results of people who will create the page for $5. Look

through the providers and find one who meets your needs. Make sure he has some

reviews and positive feedback.

Once you find someone to create your page for you, you’re going to need a website to

host it on. Just buy a domain name and a hosting plan from HostZilla, HostGator,

GoDaddy or one of the other sites. Then, you’ll need to put squeeze page on the site.

Get an Opt-in Form

Finally, you’ll need to sign up with AWeber. AWeber is an autoresponder. It collects

email addresses and sends out scheduled emails. It can also deliver the free gift

people receive when they sign up for your list.

Page 19: Laser List Building - Amazon S3 · wondering if you run solo advertisements to your email list. I’m willing to negotiate on price. Thanks for your time. (Your full name) (Company

18

Once you sign up, create an opt-in form and place it on your squeeze page.

Now, let’s move on to the final step of the process.

Rinse and Repeat

Basically, you need to repeat the process I’ve covered over and over again. You’ll

begin by finding more blog owners to run your solo ads. You can also send new

offers to someone who has already run your ads.

After you have some success with this, you can create training videos that you can

pass on to people who you hire to complete the process for you. You can find these

people on ODesk.com, Craigslist Philippines and other sites.

The End Result - Promote to Your New List

After your solo ads run for a while, you’ll start to collect email addresses. At that

point, you can change your focus and begin marketing directly to your own list.

Now, I’m going to give you some tips for that.

First, warm your list up by sending them some cool free tips before you start

marketing to them. This will grab their attention and make them feel as if they’re

getting a real value from the list. Then, after you warm the list, you can begin

sending them marketing messages.

Next, you want to find high gravity, popular products on ClickBank to promote, and

you want to make sure you cloak your link inside of your email.

Finally, you might want to consider creating your own product. That way, you can

make even more money off your list.

Now, it’s time for you to put this training into action. Get some solo ads together

and start making some sales!
