RIVER CULTURAL CENTERCultural centers are defined by their activity, therefore the definition of a River Cultural Center is a designat-ed space for river Activity. My Center for River Culture is not Center for River Culture but a Center for River Activity. The site along the Chicago River is a unique site in that it is tucked away, making it challenging to draw people in. The idea of my Center for River Ac-tivity is to draw people’s attention both during the day and during the night. During the day the plaza is the main attractor through activity, and during night the buildings exterior screen is able to light up and draw peoples attention through a lighthouse effect, thus the name of the project, The Chicago Lighthouse.

S P A C E P R O B L E MProject: This advanced studio’s objective was to design an artists work, living , and exhibition space while focusing on the modulation of space, amplifi-cation of light, resolution of scale, fulfillment of pro-portion, purpose of structure, and authenticity of material. the site is a typical chicago lot, 150’ x 200’. the surrounding context was left ambiguous in order to focus clearly on the problem. I chose to fo-cus on the relationships between inside space and outside space. I strove to reach a satisfying scale to the entire project , by focusing on connecting the spaces, inside to outside, first floor to second floor, and exhibition to work to living and finally to garden.

B I G S K Y S K I - L O D G EProject: To design a ski lodge located in big sky montana. this comprehensive building studio focused on concrete as the building material and structure. I was interested in the relation-ship between the site and the views out of the building. This idea drove me to design a ski lodge that had three main views, up the moun-tain, into the trees, and down the mountain.

Project: To study a wood framed structure and build a section mod-el at 1 1/2” = 1’-0” of a specific corner. I was able to choose the material used to build the model.

WALNUT&STEELProject: To design and build a piece of furniture of our choice. I chose to design a desk, made out of dark walnut and steel. The legs were bent then welded together. The wal-nut desk was fabricated, then hung by two metal rods on each leg.
