My 3 years on council will be coming to a close soon, and I just want to say thank you to everyone! Thanks for the support when my daughter was in her car accident. The kind words and donations to her family have been greatly appreciated. A big thank you to John Oare. You have been a great leader for this church. You always had my back when times were tough for me. Being on council has helped me get closer to God. I want you to ask yourself: Is it my turn to be on council? It has been some work but it has been fun and rewarding. On January 5 th , Pastor Alvin delivered a message that still sticks in my head. Congratulations, Our Redeemer. Its a God! Now what are you going to do about it?Pastor Fred taught us that we are all pastors, and we need to do our part. How are we to deliver messages from God? Where is our outreach going? I know with this church family we can do anything we put our minds to. Tell us, the council mem- bers, what you want to do for people in the community, people in need, and this church. We all need to give help to others. Volunteer! Tell us you care! We need you in all phases of this church. Remember when our new pastor arrives it will not be his job to do everything. th, I spent a half hour in the fellowship hall

after the 8 am service. I had a great conversation with Mary Jo Mettler in that half hour. I learned a lot about her family. Along with many other people, Dave and Mary Jo are such a blessing to our church! If you are lonely we have a great church family with many great people who would help you if you were to ask. My 3 years on council will be coming to a close soon, and I just want to say thank you to everyone! Thanks for the support when my daughter was in her car accident. Tuesday February 25

6:30 p.m.

Our Redeemer Readers will meet on Tuesday, February 25 at 6:30pm. No specific book is assigned for February so we will be sharing books read by the group members since we last met. Come and share the good and not so good titles and come with additional ideas for us to read this upcoming year. The Lager Queen of Minnesota by J Ryan Stradal is the book for our annual event. Books are available for purchase at the library, 320 Brewery, Mom’s Cafe, Community Education Office and the High School. Read the book and don’t forget to join us in the Pine City Reads event at the 320 Brewery on Tuesday, February 18 at 7 pm. Nick and Cassie Olson will tell us of their adventures in bringing the 320 Brewery to Pine City. Pie from Mom’s Cafe will be offered for purchase during this special event. The Lager Queen of Minnesota is a great story of families, things assumed, things unsaid, beer and pie! Join us for a fun evening!!

CHILDREN OF JOY PRESCHOOL Mrs. Casey has been wrapping up Parent/Student conferences in mid-January. It’s always a wonderful event to have time with our families and talk about their student’s progress and abilities.

In January, we began our new curriculum including Simple Machines. Look around where you are right now—how many simple machines can you spot?

We have received our 3 star rating from Parent Aware which includes another grant opportunity. THANK YOU to our amazing staff who work so hard. We are so very blessed! By combining fundraising with a fall grant, we were able to invest over $3000 into restoring the church playground. God is good. Coming up in February—our staff hopes to attend an informative conference in Duluth at the DECC orga-nized by the Northland Foundation. We will be serving soup & sandwich on Ash Wednesday—February 26th. Please come and eat! Thank you to two individual members of ORLC who have made incredibly generous donations to our scholarship fund. We deeply appreciate your investment into our students.

We still have openings—please pass the word! If there is enough interest, we can open up a Tues/Thursday class.

.PINE CITY LIFEBLOOD REENTRY PROGRAM The Charter Meeting of Our Redeemer Lifeblood Reentry Group met on Thursday evening, December 5

th. While the number of volunteers outnumbered the participants, we

began to realize that though we may not have spent time incarcerated or have friends or fam-ily in the system, we all have spent time in captivity in one form or another. The program consists of a series of nine videos on subjects including Family, Hope, A Second Chance, Influence, and others. The videos are about 20 minutes long and include stories from men and women who have experienced incarceration, some for many years. These stories include the struggle, but also the restoration these once lost men and women have experienced through faith and the presence of Godly men and women in their lives. Af-ter the video the group breaks into discussion groups facilitated by our volunteers and attend-ed by all of us. The discussion guides call us to consider deeper issues than we may have understood or confronted in our past. We are only beginning to see the depth of this ministry opportunity to reach out to those who may have lost hope or faith in life and its struggles. Our volunteers come from churches across the community. This is a Christ-centered ministry that believes a relation-ship with Godly people eventually leads to a relationship with Christ and a changed perspec-tive and future. We will meet Thursday nights from 7 to 9 at the ORLC fellowship hall. If you have an interest in this ministry contact Jim Koppen or Jim Hanson, or ask Diane at the church office for information. We would love to get you involved.

THE JANUARY 26TH CONGREGATIONAL VOTE FOR OUR REDEEMER’S CONSTITUTION, BYLAWS AND CONTINUING RESOLUTIONS RECEIVED UNANIMOUS APPROVAL!

Thanks to everyone who cast their vote! The Synod will now review and return. We will

then, at our Spring Semi-Annual meeting April 26th, vote to ratify! Thank you once again!

CALL COMMITTEE UPDATE

Ephesians 3:20 "Now to God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work with us, to God be the glory." The Call Committee continues to actively be in contact with our Northeastern MN Synod in identifying pastoral candidates, within the state and beyond, interested in interviewing for a call to ORLC. Recently in December we interviewed two candi-dates, one of whom has withdrawn his name from consideration after family dis-cernment. As a committee, we continue to meet for prayer, reflection, and Bible study. We are hopeful that as we start the new year, a candidate of choice will emerge who also has a heart for partnering in ministry with us. Meanwhile, we abide in God's plans and timing, trusting that God is at work. We thank you for your ongoing prayers and patience in abiding together with us. INVITATION TO SECURITY PROGRAM

SITUATION AWARENESS

My name is John Schille. I am a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City. I am on the church council and the newly-formed ORLC Security Committee. We have been developing a security program with procedures specifically for our church. Part of our security program is a 3-4 hour Power Point presentation entitled Situation Awareness, to be presented by the Pine County Sheriff’s Department. As unfortunate as it can be these days, we may find ourselves in a situation dependent on what we do in response to the situation. The ac-tion we take may save our life and the lives of our loved ones. I am inviting you and all who are interested to join us for this presentation and program. Date and time: Saturday February 29

th at 10:00 a.m.

CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING Thursday, January 9, 2020 Present: Tom Davis, Diane Lombard, Liz Olson, John Schille, Kris Gross, Brent Weiss, John Oare, Jeneice Carter, Jay Samuelson. Absent: Ashley Espeseth, Rich Elliot, Wayne Hansmann. Guests: Steve Schmidt, Leigha Lange, Pastor Luedke. The meeting was called to order at 6:58 p.m. by President John Oare. Devotions and Prayer were led by Liz Olson. Set Agenda: Two items were added to the agenda under New Business. #2 Imagine Network. #3 Semi-annual meeting dates and times. Staff and Committee Reports: A written report was submitted by Diane V., Office Adminis-trator. Vacation time was granted. An email was submitted by Rich Elliot on the Call Committee. Item #4 under Old Business. Jay Samuelson gave an overview of the Fireside Chat from Sunday. Discussed changing to one service versus two services each Sunday. No change was made by council at this time. A written January Finance Committee Report was submitted by Diane Lombard. Financial Report: Steve Schmidt reviewed the written report. Giving has been down as of late. Motion was made by Jay Samuelson to accept the Financial Report. Tom Davis seconded. Motion carried. Old Business: 1. Security Update: John Schille reported that we are still on track for hosting a Commu-nity Awareness Program on February 29

th here at Our Redeemer. They have been looking into dif-

ferent surveillance systems. Time frame being possibly April. AED and Fire extinguisher training is still being worked on, focusing on the safety and surveillance right now. 2. WINDOWS money: Brent Weiss reported on the status and works of the Mary Murphy Fund. This is supported through teacher and community donations only. 100% of the donations goes to students in the Pine City School system. John Oare reported the Lifeblood program does not need ongoing funds. Steve Schmidt reported that there is a total of $427.00 in this fund that was previously donated to WINDOWS. Jay Samuelson made a motion to give $210.00 to the Mary Murphy Fund and $217.00 to the youth program of Our Redeemer and to revisit this fund balance in six months. Brent Weiss seconded. Motion carried. Tom Davis and John Oare opposed. 3. Constitutional vote January 26: Jay Samuelson suggested we have the meeting at 9:15 a.m. and ask the 8:00 members to stay later and the 9:30 a.m. members to come early. Pas-tor Luedke needs to announce the date and time at the next two Sunday services. Jeneice Carter made a motion to open the meeting at the end of the 8:00 service so those members could cast their vote before leaving and extend the meeting to the beginning of the 9:30 service so the mem-bers could cast their vote before the service begins and adjourn the meeting at the beginning of the 9:30 service. Adoption of Constitution, By-Laws and Continuing Resolutions _____ YES _____ NO At the beginning of the meeting John Oare should announce to the congregation that the Council has recommended that we accept the Constitution, By-Laws and Continuing Resolutions. 4. Call Committee update: Rich Elliot could not attend the meeting but submitted an e-mail with an update. The call committee is currently arranging a second interview with one candi-date. The other candidate we interviewed before the holidays will not be pursuing a call with us due to family issues. New Business: 1. Gift: A memorial gift of $7000.00 was given to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in memory of Leone Ledin to be designated as the Leone Ledin Memorial Lighting Fund. This gift will be used for new lighting in the sanctuary. Scott Jahnz is looking into LED fixtures for this. The Pre-school also was given $3000.00 for the Leone Ledin Preschool Scholarship Fund. A Thank You was sent for this gift in memory of Leone. 2. Imagine Network: This group partners with Pine County. They are a helping hand to those individuals who are dealing with mental health issues. This program is similar to the Adult Drop-In Program currently taking place in our community. They would like to hold their meetings at Our Redeemer on a monthly basis, usually the 3

rd Thursday of the month from 3-5 p.m. Motion

was made by John Oare to allow this program to use the Youth Room for their meetings on the 3rd

Thursday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. Jeneice Carter seconded. Motion carried. 3. Semi-annual meeting dates: The Spring Semi-Annual meetings will be held on the last Sunday of April and the Fall Semi-Annual meetings will be held on the first Sunday in November following one service which will be held at 9:00 a.m. Motion made by Jeneice Carter at 8:35 p.m. to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Tom Davis. Mo-tion carried. Meeting was adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer. Next Executive Board Meeting will be Thursday, February 6

th.

Next Council Meeting will be Thursday, February 13

th.
