OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH NEWSLETTER February 2016 Pastor’s Letter Transfiguration /Lent Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, “This is my Son, my chosen; Listen to Him!” During this season of Epiphany, Jesus lives been revealed to us as God our Son, in many and various ways. At his birth in Bethlehem, by the angels, “For unto you is born a Savior”, by the Wisemen, “Where is he, who is King of the Jews”, at the river Jordan, the voice, “You are my Son, with whom I am well pleased”, at the wedding feast, changing water into wine, and his disciples believed in him, in a visit back home. The spirit of the Lord is upon us to proclaim good news and on the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus is changed - transformed, a little pre-look at the resurrection, Easter and the voice, “This is my Son, my chosen; Listen to him!” Listen to him. Now we know who Jesus is. Now we are called on to listen to him. Now we move into the season of Lent which gives us a good opportunity to listen to Jesus and to journey with him to Jerusalem. Now we are lead or driven into the season we call Lent, Holy Week and finally Easter. I take this time to encourage all to grow in faith through the Lenten practice of giving, serving, bringing the cross of Jesus, reflecting on ones relationship to God through Jesus. We will, as usual, hold midweek Lent Soup, Bread and Prayer meals on Thursday eves, an, of course, Sunday’s during Lent. Holy Week is a time to reflect and remember by participating in the passion of our Lord so that we may truly understand the gifts of Easter and celebrate it. So, my brothers and sisters in Christ, I look forward to hosting you all at the Lord’s table and to remember because He lives, we shall live also, but let us , “Listen to him”.
