HYMN  “Praise, My Soul, The King Of Heaven” .................................................................... LSB 793  (*) CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION (Please stand.) P:            In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C:            Amen. P:            Everything we are and everything we have comes from the Lord, C:            who made heaven and earth. P:            He opens up His fatherly hand and provides for the needs of all living creatures. C:  Yet we often either despise, or become obsessed with, our physical needs and

comforts. P:  We are quick to turn our wants into needs and make demands of God and others. C:           But with You there is always forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P:           We are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive

eternal food from heaven ‐ the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. This heavenly food forgives our idolatry and draws our hearts to trust in our Heavenly Father for every provision, spiritual and physical. We confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

C:           Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.

P:           Almighty God in His mercy has given us everything, even His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C:           Amen.  (*) HYMN OF PRAISE

SCRIPTURE READINGS L:  The Old Testament reading is from the eighth chapter of Deuteronomy.    1 Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. 2

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. 3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.    11 Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. 12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, 13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 14then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 15 He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. 16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 17 You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.           Deuteronomy 8:1‐3, 11‐18 NIV

L:  This is the Word of the Lord. C:  Thanks be to God.  L:  The Epistle reading is from 2 Corinthians, chapter eight.    1 And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. 2 In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord's people. 5 And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us. 6 So we urged Titus,  just as he had earlier made a beginning, to  bring also to completion this act of grace on your part. 7 But since you excel in everything —in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you —see that you also excel in this grace of giving.   8 I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:1‐9 NIV   L:  This is the Word of the Lord. C:  Thanks be to God.  (Please stand to sing.)  (*) ALLELUIA AND VERSE

(*) HOLY GOSPEL   L:  The Holy Gospel according to Matthew, the sixth chapter. C:  Glory to You, O Lord.    9"This, then, is how you should pray:" 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread.   25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?    26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?   28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?   31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat? ' or 'What shall we drink? ' or 'What shall we wear? ' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:9‐11, 25‐34 NIV  L:  This is the Gospel of the Lord. C:  Praise to You, O Christ. (Please be seated.)   CHILDREN'S MESSAGE   (Parents, please feel free to come forward with smaller children.)   HYMN OF THE DAY  “Our Father, Who From heaven Above” ......................... LSB 766, stanza 5   SERMON  “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread” ‐  Matthew 6:9‐11,25‐34

USING FIREWORKS SAFELY!!

Summer means picnics, barbecues, parades and fireworks displays, especially around the 4th of July. Summer also means an increase in injuries from backyard grills, bonfires and fireworks.

Children between the ages of 10 and 14 have three mes the risk of fireworks injuries than the general popula on. About a third of the injuries were from small firecrackers; 21 percent from bo le rockets; 20 percent from sparklers. Fireworks are also know to cause millions in direct property damage. However, if fireworks are legal where you live and you decide to use them, be sure to follow these important safety ps:

Never allow young children to handle fireworks. Older children should use fireworks only under close adult supervision. Light fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from onlookers, houses and

flammable materials. Light one device at a me; maintain a safe distance a er ligh ng. Do not allow any running or horseplay while fireworks are being

used. Never ignite devices in a container. Do not try to re‐light or handle malfunc oning fireworks; douse

and soak them with water and discard them safely. Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully ex nguish fireworks that don’t

go off or in case of fire.

RELAX and ENJOY THE HOLIDAY!!
