P: Blessed be God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

(Please be seated.) (Sunday) ANTHEM “Let There Be Peace on Earth” – Chancel Chimes SCRIPTURE READINGS L: The First reading for Reformation is from the fourteenth chapter of Revelation.

6Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.” Revelation 14:6–7 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

L: The Second reading is from Romans chapter three

19Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. 21But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. 27Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. Romans 3:19–28 L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. (Please stand.) (*) RESPONSE L: Forever, O Lord, Your Word is firmly set in the heavens. Refrain Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and keep it. Refrain Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Refrain

(*) HOLY GOSPEL L: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the eighth chapter. C: Glory to You, O Lord. 31So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” 34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. 35The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:31–36

PRACTICAL- SIMPLE -OUTREACH EXAMPLES Hand off a Bible: Go and buy a bunch of your favorite Bibles to read and have them ready to hand off to others. WARNING – Do not give a hand off without a hand hold! Write on the inside cover a note to them with your favorite places to read, good places to start, encouraging words, and your number if they have questions. Hand it off to them and then hold their hand as they learn to use it. That is why it is great to give your favorite Bible because you know how to use it. THANK YOU, REDEEMER MEMBERS! The Bethel/Redeemer Blood Drive was a great success, thanks to your participation and spirit of giving. We were able to collect 23 units of blood which equates to helping 69 patients! Your Redeemer Health Cabinet wishes to thank anyone who participated in this event in any way. Whether you took the time to donate the “Gift of Life,” volunteered to help with the Blood Donation program in any way, or did both – a heartfelt “Thank You!” THE ANATOMY OF BULLYING Why a Child Doesn’t Ask an Adult for Help

“Bullying” has become a familiar word in today’s culture. Statistics from the 2008 – 2009 School Crime Supplement show that an adult was notified in only about a third of bullying cases. With the school year underway, we would like to bring some focus to the issue of bullying, provide a few insights and tips, and offer parents some website resources to get some facts. Today some insight as to: Why don’t children tell adults about being bullied? Bullying can make a child feel helpless. They may want to handle it on their own to feel in

control again. The child may fear being seen as weak or a tattletale. The child may fear backlash from the kid who bullied them. Bullying can be a humiliating experience. Children may not want adults to know what is

being said about them, whether true or false. They may also fear that adults will judge them or punish them for being weak.

Children who are bullied may already feel socially isolated; or, feel like no one cares or understands.

The child may fear being rejected by their peers. Friends can help protect the child from bullying, and the child may fear losing this support.

If you have concerns go to your most trusted source, and see the website below for more information.

Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return to your home, and declare how much

God has done for you.”  And he went away, proclaiming

throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.

Luke 8:38b‐39

“Bring i Home” BIBLE VERSE OF THE WEEK: (for memorization or reflection):

“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:31b-32

(Tips for memorization: Write the verse on a notecard to keep in your pocket or purse. Review it several times each day.) POINTS TO PONDER THIS WEEK: 1) Why is it important to abide in God’s Word? 2.) How do I abide in God’s Word? 3.) What can I use to help me abide in Scripture?

Hymn of the Month: “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” How has God “been by your side”? Think about it, share it with others, and give a prayer of thanksgiving for a God who is always with you!

God’s Word forever shall abide, No thanks to foes, who fear it;

For God Himself fights by our side With weapons of the Spirit.

Were they to take our house, Goods, honor, child, or spouse, Though life be wrenched away,

They cannot win the day. The kingdom’s our forever!

Wee Wee Wee All The Way HOME Do you have a common meal prayer at your house? Maybe there is a common bedtime prayer. Common prayers, recited by memory have great value! They take away the nervousness many people have with praying in groups or praying out loud. A common prayer can be shared and spoken by all. When I sit down to eat alone I say the same prayer that I say with my family, which in turn is the prayer that we often share when the church family prays at a meal! How exciting it is to have a point of unity! To say it in another way, if you say a common table prayer in your house there is a great chance that the same prayer is being spoken in a number of other homes at the same time! I love unrehearsed prayers but there is also great value in the common prayers.

WORSHIP SCHEDULE Saturday 5:30 pm Sunday 8 and 10:40 am HOLY COMMUNION is celebrated in each service the weekends of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the

month. We invite those who acknowledge their sinfulness, recognize that Christ’s body and blood are truly present for our forgiveness, and are willing to give witness to the unity of their faith with this community, to join with us in receiving the sacrament. For those who for health or conscience reasons are not able to receive wine, please note that there is a cup of white grape juice in the middle of each tray. Gluten-free wafers are available in the middle of the bread tray for those with that allergy.

CHILDREN are always welcome at Redeemer. Parents should note that according to your needs and preferences, 1) children’s bulletins and “color bags” are available in the narthex; 2) our nursery is staffed each Sunday morning during the 9:20 am Education Hour and the 10:40 am service. The Nursery is located just off the Narthex -- look for our sign!

WORSHIP TAPES are available in the rack by the elevator. Listen and bring it back or contribute one dollar if you wish to keep the tape.

TRANSPORTATION is available each Sunday morning. Please call the church office (289-5147) by Noon on Thursday.

SPECIAL NEEDS Large print bulletins and personal hearing devices are available in the Narthex from an Usher or at the Welcome Center.
