2.4 Work Mode
FCT-333FAX has two work modes :Common Mode and
Modem Mode These two modes cannot exist simultaneity.
Common Mode :Under the normal mode, user can
access the wireless terminal by connecting with phone/ fax
via PHONE port.
Modem Mode :Under the Modem mode, user can
obtain the direct control of GSM module by using PC via
the serial port of the wireless terminal to realize the PC fax
function.
Establishing the Modem Mode :1. When the auto-switch mode configured by the user (refer
to the below the keyboard setup command), the PC serial
port needs to be connected to the IOIO port in the wireless
access terminal. Open the serial port in PC, and then the
device will be auto-switched to the Modem mode.
2. Under the Modem Mode, the user can control the GSM
module through the serial port directly. And user can apply
the software in PC to realize the FAX function on the
GSM.
3. Using the device under the Modem Mode
Under the auto-switch mode (Set #*83*0# ),when
there is the incoming call on the GSM,. The wireless
terminal would switch to the normal mode automatically, in
this case, if user accesses PC FAX function, it is highly
Page 8 of 26
recommended that user adopts (Set #*83*2#) to enter the
compulsive Modem mode to avoid the failure to receive
PC fax.
Note :Above keyboard configuration commands are
setup with the common phone. Please refer to
“4.4 keyboard configuration command” for
the detailed configuration.
2.5 Hardware Installation Steps
This section introduces FCT-333FAX hardware installation

connecting line of the battery. Red line is anode, connects
to the anode of the storage battery, the black is cathode,
connects to the cathode of the storage battery.
4 . Do NOT make the storage battery supply the power to
the device with direct connection. Should avoid excess
discharge as using it for long time that will damage the
storage battery.
5 . Should pull out the adapter from the storage battery
when there is no urban power more than 24 hours.
6 . Should recharge the battery and keep it in float-
charge status constantly.
7 . Risk of electric shock, dry location use only
8 . When charge the battery the first time, please be sure
the charging time is no less than 15 Hrs.
9 . The indicator light of the power adapter shows:
red : Electric supply is off, the battery supplies
power.
green : Electric supply is on, the battery is in
charging.
Indicator is off :Electric supply is off, while the battery is
undercharged.

Chapter 5 Frequently Asked
Questions
Q: How long does it take before I am able to make a phone
call or fax?
A: FCT-333FAX usually takes 30 seconds for start up. System
goes into normal operation after LCD and indicators displaying
“8100”.
Q: What happens if I make a wrong connection to a phone
socket with an external line?
A: No mistake is allowed for connections of phone socket
(connecting telephone). Wrong connection may cause system
failure or burn down hardware chips seriously.
Q: Why does the device always send the FAX as a voice
outgoing call?
A: Some outdated FAX cannot send the identification tone, the
user must add the “*01*” before the number to prompt the
system this call is a FAX call (Such as *01*Number).
Q: Why does the device always make the voice outgoing call
when user makes the data call?
A: Some outdated Modem cannot send the CNG identification
Page 21 of 26
tone, so the user should add the “*02*” before the number to
prompt the system this call is a Data call (Such as
*020*Number).
Q: Is it possible to transmit fax through GSM by any SIM card?
A: Before using GSM fax function, the user should make sure
that:
(a) For sending faxes, ensure SIM card data transmission
service is available (GSM network support is required)
(b) For receiving, ensure SIM card fax receiving service
is available. (GSM network support is required;
usually this function needs dual number with one SIM
card – one voice number and one fax number. For fax
receiving, only fax number is used. Voice number is
not expected for fax receiving.).
Q: What type of fax machine do I need to use?
A: FCT-333FAX is in line with G3 fax criteria. Any compatible
G3 standard fax machine is OK.
Q: When I use GSM fax, is it possible to fax like desktop fax
machine, such as. Making a phone call before sending faxes?
A: Impossible. FCT-333FAX does not support GSM voice/ fax
switch over function. This function requires GSM network
supporting TS61 (allowing user to make phone call while
faxing). So, when sending faxes, please press down Start key
immediately after entering your number; when receiving faxes,
please set fax machine to auto receive mode.
