Pett yCure: Where Posh Pups Go to Clean Up Their Act

The puppy pampering spot is the genius of Amber Lewin, professional dog groomer, former reality television contestant and unapologetic pet lover. Amber, who’s been “styling” IE (and beyond) pups for over fi ft een years took her know-how to Hollywood for season one of Animal Planet’s, “Groomer Has It” and then to the “Today Show,” for a groom-off where Amber gave her standard poodle a serious makeover. The pooch went pink and Amber won a “Best Groomer” title on the show. Corona her home base.

This home base isn’t your aver-age groomer. Amber’s Pet Spa & Boutique could best be described as a litt le candy-coated haven for dirty dogs. It’s outfi tt ed with the company’s signature brown and pink motif and sprinkled with colorful accessories and necessi-ties. From the most luxurious pet products on the market to the unique art of Hand Scissoring, Amber’s diff erentiates itself one nail polished puppy paw at a time.

And surely, the IE Diva has many options when deciding who’ll give “Trixie” her wash ‘n go, but this spot is an A+ plus choice as you can score holistic grain-free dog food, diabetic dog treats, and fresh baked doggy cookies. What’s more, Amber’s tends to your dog’s needs as the top-notch staff is well-versed in the ways of the tail-wagger. The Pet Spa team gently handles special needs dogs as well as seniors and they are prepared to work with a range of temperaments.

Amber doesn’t hesitate to tell clients that this is a safe place for your pet and they actually enjoy coming in. “My biggest joy is

We all grew up with visions of the future in our heads. One day there would be magical electric cars, and they would be simple, beautiful things. When the design team sat down to create the electric vehicle, they thought back to those visions from childhood and set their sights on something incredible. In the end, they created a new form of transportation as forward-looking as the one that existed in our imagination from the very beginning.

The result of their inspiration is the Peapod. It’s a neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV), and a total redefinition of eco-friendly, people-friendly mobility. All electric. No gas. No emissions. Lots of love. The Peapod is a street-legal, battery-powered electric vehicle that is limited to roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less - perfect for local trips to the store, to school, or for errands. A neighborhood electric vehicle runs solely on batteries which wholly eliminates its emissions of harmful carbon dioxide and thus diminishes the greenhouse effect. One more reason to smile - As part of the recently passed Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, consumers of plug-in electric vehicles can qualify for a tax credit of $2,500 - $7,000. With those savings you can treat yourself to a new pair of Manolo Blahniks’ and a matching hand bag, or two.

“‘Charm’ — I thought this was very important,” says Peter Arnell, inventor and chief designer of the electric Peapod vehicle. “’Happiness’ — this was part of the conversation too. I wanted to convey that the car was happy to be a car, to say transportation can be happy.” He adds, “It’s smiling at you and you smile back.”

Because the treatment is non-invasive and there’s no recovery time you could come out a new woman before

The only rule is that you must arrive make-up free so the natural skin tones are visible. Once you’ve sett led into your seat, Nanci places “indicator drapes” over the decollete to determine your season. You gain a new appreciation for detail as you see colors drown you out or brighten you up, whiten your eyes or yellow your smile. According to Nanci, this process can, without sounding overly dramatic, “change your life.” And aft er you’ve been “seasoned,” you’ll learn more about what hues (roughly thirty) within your seasonal palett e suit you best as Nanci rates them one thru three. So, with your season revealed and your palett e decided upon, you’ll receive full make-up and see how radiant you look.

“When the fi rst thing someone comments on is your outfi t and not your face, it means you’re wearing the wrong colors. You’re not wearing the colors, they are wearing you,” said Nanci.

(You just thought you had great style.) No one’s discounting your eye for cutt ing edge clothing, but as a former conventional artist, Nanci has a trained eye for color and believes that one must work with the spectrum, not against it. Color Analysis defi es common thought by proving a red head can wear red.

As Color Analysis makes it’s comeback, you’re still asking, “what exactly is it?” Simply put, it’s a non-invasive, aesthetic treatment based on the theoretical developments of Michel Eugene Chevreul, a French chemist and tapestry fi rm owner, who once noted that colors interact with each other when placed side by side. Out of Chevreul’s observations grew an inter-est in the relationship of skin and hair color with clothing. Color Analysis allows for an examination of an individual’s season, whether she is a winter, summer, spring or fall as well as her cool and warm undertones.

You’ve moisturized. You’ve tanned. You’ve swapped lipstick shades and changed your hair color. Still, nothing’s

working. Your autumn wardrobe seems dreary and your complexion isn’t far behind. Now that lush hues govern the fall spectrum, you want to know should you opt for lilac over violet, or scarlet over crimson? Shift your gaze to the past to make for a more coordi-nated future.

Sure we’ve all taken part in botox and chemical peels, but an oft en overlooked component in an I.E. woman’s day to day is Color Analysis--until now. The Rancho Cucamonga based med spa, SkinCraft ers, rolls into autumn with the celebrated and fresh trend, that apologetically dominated the 1980’s.

Nanci Saad, the Executive Director and a certifi ed Color Analyst who brings thirty years of beauty expertise to each session, speaks candidly of the relevance of the treatment in terms of the I.E. beauty maven. “For all of the money invested in clothes it’s important that we select what looks best,” said Nanci. Ac-cording to Nanci, a common notion among several women is that there are roughly fi ve colors available to them, and a woman should stay within that safe zone because those shades suit her best. But a session with Nanci will convert even the most devout of noir subscribers.

With fall’s top two styles covered, it’s time to talk color. It’s standard to go darker in the fall and winter months to coincide with your wardrobe, your tan and the annual energy. This year, color takes a huge leap from a traditional chestnut to black, ashy brown and even gray. But for if you really want to capture fall, go red. Crimson hues were well received on the runway and have made their way into mainstream by way of a dozen sculpted shapes and styles. It’s no secret that by the time trends come off the runway, they’ve been muted to accommodate the everyday girl.

That’s why Jade stylists are cool as cucumbers and make it a point to treat their clients to ensure a successful coloring session. So, while the shades may seem out of range for your day to day, stylists are confident that you’ll leave in love with your look--whether you go for one of the cutting edge collection colors or a more demure shade--as they add warmth with color panels and strategically placed high and low lights. And know that you’re never stuck with anything. The salon offers a range of plant-based permanent as well as demi-permanent color that are gentle on your crown. Get tressed out. You’ll thank yourself later.

Fashionably Stranded: Jade Aveda Salon Turns Heads with New Looks for FallSocial season marks its return with an impressive list of sleek, modern looks that will dominate 2009. Gone are the days of over-bleached, over-teased, sun damaged and limp tresses. Fall 2009 calls for a resur-gence of chic with looks that are runway approved and easy to manage. Rancho Cucamonga’s JADE Aveda Salon is surely an authority on how to tame, train and style hair. Taking into consideration the local climate and how it can affect your ‘do, Jade Aveda provides clients education to pair with their Autumn looks on everything from tips on how to conserve extreme color and gloss methods, to washing tips and UV protection. This season’s collection showcases swift updates on favored styles.

Most ladies are plagued with whether or not they should chop their locks. Jade’s meticulously trained stylists work with you to determine if the latest bob (or long wavy look) suits your face shape, brow shape, and even skin tone. The fall 2009 bob isn’t the soccer mom chop you’re used to or even the cropped side-bang that everyone else has. This season’s cut gives a big nod to Anna Wintour. It’s a sweet little ‘do with some serious edge thanks to straight cut fringe--a look that’s owning the runway right now. Slightly gamine, unapologetically vintage and extremely high fashion, the style is as manageable

as it is sexy. Big names like Roxanne Pal-let and Natalie Portman (even Rihanna at one time) show of a gorgeous display of the cropped cut with fringe. As for dames who wish to keep their strands, it’s important to know that stick-straight hair is a thing of the past. Frying hair with flat irons and sky high teasing and ratting are tres passe. The new approach to long means making it ap-pear natural with soft waves and a touch of volume so to create a fuller, messy look. The ladies recommend a trim every 4 to 6 weeks to keep hair looking polished, not straggly, in addition to the use of light serums and minimal hold products. The tousle is totally you.

From your walk you fall into the devices of the pole. With dips, plies, pirouett es, pivots and spins you’ll soon master that pole and start working the aerial angle. From there the elements of grace, strength and fl exibility will come into play, turning you into a levitated goddess. But the tellings of whisper extend (much like those new found gams you’re showing off ). Exotic movement will hook your honey and have you loving every inch of your womanhood. Want self-expression and self-discovery? Stop Facebooking and embrace the exoticism of the female body. Zumba kicks up the cardio factor with Latin beats and an Ashtanga Yoga practice will center your being as you achieve harmony within.

You heard silence was golden? Well, forget what you’ve heard. Delicate whispers go a long way.

With the leaves on the ground and the night rolling in early, it’s time to take your workout routine indoors.

Whisper Studios knows how to keep a secret and get your booty fi rm for those leather leggings you’ll be rocking all season long. It’s Temecula’s fi rst pole dancing studio packed with an overtly inspiring way to message on toning up. An alternative method to training -- because you’re so over the elliptical -- pole dancing off ers saucy senoritas and even the demure dames to break free of the conventions associated with strip tease. The inviting studios doesn’t balk at your bust or bugles. And they’re certainly not concerned with your age or fi tness level. Every lady deserves the chance let her hair down, feel comfortable with her fi gure and grow (as she’s losing).

The strip tease workout, made popular by hyper-vixen, Car-men Electra, incorporates exotic moves, classic ballet and carb-busting cardio. At Whisper, you’ll start with the basics -- your walk.

From there the elements of grace, strength and flexibility will come into play, turning you into a levitated goddess. But the tellings of whisper extend (much like those new found gams you’re showing off).

Whisper Studios knows how to keep a secret and get your booty firm for those leather leggings you’ll be rocking all season long. It’s Temecula’s first pole dancing studio packed with an overtly inspiring way to message on toning up. An alternative method to training -- because you’re so over the elliptical -- pole dancing offers saucy senoritas and even the demure dames to break free of the conventions associated with strip tease. The inviting studios doesn’t balk at your bust or bugles. And they’re certainly not concerned with your age or fitness level. Every lady deserves the chance let her hair down, feel comfortable with her figure and grow (as she’s losing).

The strip tease workout, made popular by hyper-vixen, Car-men Electra, incorporates exotic moves, classic ballet and carb-busting cardio. At Whisper, you’ll start with the basics -- your walk.

American Idol’s Bikini Girl, Katrina

Darrel of Chino Hills, has been

quoted as saying she uses pole fitness

as a fun way to stay in shape.

Tease Don’t Stop: How We Toss and Tone in the IE

You’ve always been all about you, but this is taking care of you in a new way. Whisper Studios presents a generous schedule, which

means never having an excuse as to why you can’t love yourself today. If it’s self-awareness IE ladies are after, they can forgo silent retreats and start whispering...out loud.

What does your pet say about you?

Discerning owners who would rather not settle for just the pick of the litter may want to check out The Savannah Cat Shoppe – the world’s very first retail outlet for this one-of-a-kind exotic breed.

Savannah Cats are unique, intelligent and loving felines with the sleek look of a wild plains hunter and the docile nature of a family’s most loyal pet. A cross between an African Serval, (Swahili for “Wildcat”), and a domesticated breed, Savannah cats can be walked on a leash, learn how to fetch and often enjoy playing in water.

They’re sexy and sweet – nine lives all rolled into one….and the closest you can get to owning a wild cat in California without breaking any laws.

A quick jaunt down I-15 and I land in Temecula--praised for its vines and

close proximity to San Diego, known as a haven to motocross families and gamblers alike. Tonight the city is all abuzz as it’s the reopening of the once idolized nightclub, Silk.

Like a mini version of Las Vegas, Pechanga Hotel and Casino’s lights illuminate the sky, casting a promise of good times into the atmosphere.

“People are coming in from

everywhere. Not only people from

the Inland Empire, but

Orange County, San Diego and LA.”

A giddy group of girls cross my path as I pull up to the valet. They’re outfitted in traditional clubwear--short dresses and oversized heels. Their hair is carefully coiffed. Nails are manicured, make-up meets perfection and breasts sit sky high. “Where are you?” one club goer yells into her cell phone. It’s obvious that her party is set to grow when she ends her call and with a model’s ease she throws back her dark tresses to inform her entourage that, “they’re almost here.” This group of girls, like so many, hold death grips on their phones and text with an unmatched dexterity all with hopes of ensuring a smooth entrance into the venue.

It’s an unusually humid August night, so exchanging the sticky air for air conditioning is welcomed. After a breeze through the casino, I notice that most twenty, thirty and forty-somethings have made their way up the escalator and into one of the many lines that lead to the Holy Grail that is Silk, where Sin City exclusivity is at an all-time high for these parts. But the party goers are naturals, some shamelessly sweet talking bouncers, (surely a tactic learned from Las Vegas excursions) and handing over I.D’s, reapplying lipstick, chattering over what they’ll do once they get inside, eyeballing potential dance partners, while others scramble to find their friends or stand in awe the mega-club’s presence.

I walk into the foyer, a lucid white space dipped in LED, around 9:45 and Silk’s public relations manager, Robert Bledsoe is quick to tell me that they’re expected to reach capacity within an hour. No surprise based on the body count outside.34 ieStyle Fall 2009

Page 38: ieStyle Magazine | FALL 2009

A rotating crew of ladies decked out in seduc-tive bra and panty sets and furry boots wiggled, wobbled, thumped, twisted, rolled and swayed from the second level balcony down to main bar. As if presiding as princesses of a hip-hop palace, the go-go’s pose for photos, taunt with covet-worthy figures and wink whenever appropriate.

“People are coming in from everywhere. Not only people from the Inland Empire, but Orange County, San Diego and LA,” said James Thompson, the well-spoken second level bartender. When James tells me people have come in from LA, I can’t help but furrow my brow. With the boutique clubs that line La Cienega and the swank party spots that own Hollywood nights, an Angeleno making a trip to Temecula didn’t make much sense. But Silk grabs hold of an untapped market in the Southern California nightlife scene. The ultra-club makes its debut so to stand alone, so Temecula becomes a prime location. “Yeah, LA. There’s nothing like this around. We’re flying in DJ’s. Tonight after our resident DJ Hollywood who dj’s at LAX is here. So, it’s big,” James goes on to say.

It is big. So big that the club fills and shuffling through a crowd of dancing people with drinks in hand becomes no easy feat. Arms and drinks are in the air, infectious movement spreads throughout, and the throwback sound of Montel Jordan’s This is How We Do It sends the party goers into a fury of excitement.

I watch a cool dressed gentleman veer away from his group, (a set of leggy girls in floral print frocks and silver pumps) to bob his head solo. “It’s my birthday,” he starts. “We drove up from San Diego. We used to come every Friday, but then they closed it. I’m pretty happy it’s open again. The crowd is good and I just want to have fun.” That’s Loi. He won’t share his last name but is determined to convey his high level of happiness.

Silk isn’t limited to one room. Just off the main dance floor, lives another smaller dance floor, two additional bars and at least a dozen VIP booths. This is where Griselda, from Menifee and her girlfriends are partying it up. “I’m here with a couple of friends...there are five of us girls.

Silk, which shut its doors in March of 2008, reopened seventeen months later to reveal a slight facelift. Once a

notably white space with posh white leather booths and soft hued backgrounds has tapped into the dark side, replacing those former lounge pieces with contemporary black seating, sexy leather booths and red curtains meant to separate VIP tables. A silver speckled black floor remains. The illuminated staircase still leads clubbers to new heights (or another bar) remain. And the 28,000 square foot dance hall is still home to the most dazzling centerpiece in modern nightlife--the world’s largest fiber optic chandelier. Touches of glamour were everywhere to be had with glittering “diamonds” strategically set into the main bar, flat screens displaying shadow dancing and the VIP menu--a swift recognition of the times offering up carafes of mojitos, chocolate truffle lollipops and cotton candy to boot. As with any lascivious club scene, the go-go’s were in tow.

We normally party in downtown San Diego, but this is Silk and everybody knows Silk.” Assuming that’s a reference to the spots popularity, I probe her a bit more. “There’s a diverse group here. We like to get different vibes and meet different people.”

Sure, nightclubs are a breeding ground for hook-ups, but it’s clear that Griselda wasn’t hinting at that. Silk’s crowd couldn’t been described as a young Holly-wood set, an older crowd, a college crowd, a cougar den or another other nighttime descriptive. Thirty-year olds share ground with freshly legals, while the mid-twenties crew mingle with thirty-seven plus on the club’s outdoor patio--home of more VIP space, outfitted with deep booths that were made for sinking into. Patio chatter is light-hearted and fun. You can overhear people expressing hunger (it’s almost midnight, after all) or going on about a dance floor happening or how quick “they” were to exchange phone numbers or how painful “these” shoes are.

A seasoned club goer from my Las Vegas days, I know that to really get the lowdown on how people are responding to the christening of Temecula’s spoiled baby, I’d have to venture into the ladies room. It’s that place where the florescent glow is painful, the perfume smells are offensive and the conversation is loud and honest. “These shoes are killing me,” are the words that come out the door as I go in. No doubt, I concur with the pain-stricken lady. “I’m having an OK time. I just want to sit down,” says Candice Cook from Vista. I give up my seat to her and her friend, who clearly are unable to walk an inch further. “There are about six or eight of us.” Candice doesn’t share much more than that, probably because she’s gone into shock from the pain. Regardless, a trip to the ladies room still proves successful. Pseudo vixens walk by and “average” girls arrive by the dozen, waiting to get in the stalls, saying how much they “love this place,” and snapping photos of them-selves at their most glam. And as a classic night out would have it, a dolled up princess stands outside of the ladies room, displaying what seems to be a new dress and a teased ‘do, in tears. I stand nearby and listen to her friend try to convince her that it’ll be fine. Before the night is up, they’ll be back in the spirit of bar side photo shoots and booty shakes.

It’s still hot out when I leave around

12:15. The casino is still brightly light and the spotlights wave back and forth. Inside, people continue to party to the latest beat, sip on the savviest of cocktails, take enough photographs to make a Facebook “Silk” album and belt out laughter like it’s their last. The good times carry-on and the promise has been fulfilled.

As her daughter celebrates her fi rst day of second grade,

seasoned actor, former beauty queen, ovarian cancer activist and Norco native, Eva La Rue, sits down with ieStyle to celebrate her per-sonal discoveries, her travels, where she’s come from and what’s to come. It’s no doubt, Eva’s cool demeanor and her passion is as undeniable as her beauty. The “All My Children” alumna brings with her a storied past of success from commercials to pageants to soap opera stardom to “sexiest federal grant writer” per TV Guide, proving she’s no novice. Eva, who owned the all-American town well before Starbucks, has bid fare-well to her days of hitching her horses and riding down the Santa Ana River bed, but her nostalgia is ever present as is her classic meets sexy style, her love for lipgloss and desire to see the whole world...one elephant trek at a time.

Everyone remembers you as Maria from “All My Children,” how much did Maria & Eva have in common?I think Maria had strong family values. She was immersed in her family, especially as the oldest and more responsible sibling. Maria had a stable marriage too. That’s how my family and I are. I’m the oldest of four, the most responsible. I oft en become the “go-to” sibling. My family is really tight, much like Maria’s. We have similar backgrounds and...we married the same person!

What gets you through the tough times? Working in entertainment can be tough-- do you do anything like yoga, meditation, or workouts to get you through and stay balanced?I used to do yoga. Now I do a lot of Pilates. For me it’s all about a balance of gym and working out. Time with my daughter is key. I love having my famiily over at my house. I fi nd that to be best for my soul

Before we chat about CSI Miami, lets take you back to where it all began.. NORCO! What was it like growing up in Norco? Did your family groom you for a career in act-ing or did you just fall into it? Did pageantry play a role at all?If ever someone was born to grow up in Norco, it was me. I was actually born in Long Beach and when I was eight, my family and I moved to Norco. I loved horses. We had horses in our backyard and it just allowed for an amazing way to grow up. We would ride down the river bed of the Santa Ana River everyday aft er school. Or we’d ride to 7-eleven, hitch our horses and get our candy and sodas. We’d have picnics. It was really a magical way to grow up.

Ever come back to the IE? If so, what brings you back? Family, friends, etc.?My mom still lives there in Norco. She lives in the house I grew up in. When I moved to New York I kept my horse there. But then it got to be too much and I moved back to LA. But my daughter just got a horse and we recently went on a trail ride; it was a blast.

If you hadn’t forayed into acting what else would you have chosen as a profession?A ballerina. But I realized ballet was not as lucrative as acting. It was not so much pageantry that led me to acting. I really got a taste of acting when I was around six and a half or seven. I did myfi rst commercial. I then did some modeling off and on until I was about ten. And at age ten, I decided I wanted to be a ballerina. I was doing pageants up until then. Then it was more commercials. Finally at eighteen I got a soap opera and took off from there.

Does your daughter show an interest in acting? No, no, no. In fact, she abhors acting, which is actually kind of a good thing. This is a tough business and I’d much rather her do something else. It’s funny because she’s the product of two actors. She (Kaya) is defi nitely a dynamic personality. I’m pushing her towards a career in plastic surgery (laughing).

40 ieStyle Fall 2009

Time to dive into your beauty secrets! You always look so glamorous - how do you describe your style? Are you jeans and a tee/casual, vintage classical? The everyday me is jeans and a tank top. Or if it’s summer, I’ll wear shorts and a tank top. I get to do a lot of combinations which is a lot of fun. I can be a “sexy me,” “a conservative me,” or “luncheon me.” There are so many events where I get the chance to change my look. I get to be a bit of a chameleon. I’ve never really been trendy--I’m more classic. I prefer pieces that will work long term and perhaps fi ll in with a trendy piece here and there. I’ll buy one or two trendy pieces. It’s just such a waste to buy something that you’re only going to wear once. I’m more into dressing classically. If you’re going to wear a mini, then cover it all on the top. If you’re going to wear a plunging neck, then cover it all on the bott om. One at a time. Too much is too much.

Heels or Flats? Heels. Favorites right now are Manolos. These are my summer shoes. I have four pair of these Manolo sandals. I like them because they have a low heel, maybe and inch and a half. So, they’re casual, but always sexy. And they go with everything. I have a black pair, a white pair, a gold pair...they’re staples.

Personally, it’s everything. I’m a completely different person now that she’s in my life. Motherhood has taught me to focus on those things that really are important. Focus on things I want her to know. She’ll grow and learn and know things if I’m a better person for her.

How do you balance motherhood with your busy work schedule? One big fallacy is that juggling is done beautifually and with control. It’s not easy. It’s the toughest thing in a woman’s life. Women have to forgive hemselves. No one else is doing it perfectly. There are going to be cracks. It’s a constant checks and balance system. Everyday is new. If you mess up today, it’s ok. There’s always tomorrow. But it’s so important to make “kid time.” And you always find a way to do it.

So, they’re casual, but always sexy. And they go with everything. I have a black pair, a white pair, a gold pair...they’re staples.

What’s the one beauty product you never leave home without? I don’t leave home without gloss. My expensive favorite is this YSL gloss. It’s like a push pin. You just click it and the color comes out. It’s super sparkly, which I love. My regular favorite is the Victoria’s Secret gloss. I love the smell, I love the taste and it’s sparkly. I have it in about fifteen different colors. Kaya loves them too (because of the taste).

Any beauty tips you’ve learned from TV & Film that you want to share with our readers? Yes; blotting papers. I love the MAC blotting papers. With these you don’t have to constantly re-apply powder, which can make you look wrinkly -- especially when it fills in the cracks. These are great. And if you’re ever out at a restaurant or anywhere, really, and you’ve run out of blotting papers, grab a toilet seat cover. They’re bril-lant oil blotters. And, they’re free. That’s the recessionista way!

What has being a mother taught you, both personally and professionally? Professionally it’s taught me a lot. You know, you think your career comes first and then you have a child and you never have that same fervor for your career. Now your child comes first. Drive and ambition seem to take a backseat.

Do you film a lot of the show in Miami? We used to film more of it there. But there have been a lot of budget cuts. We used to film the first and last epi-sode there. It’s such a fun city. So, it’s sad when we don’t get to film in Miami.

Can we expect to see you working on any other projects in the near future?I want to do more feature films in my time off. It’s hard to shoot during the season but when there’s off time, for sure.

What’s your favorite vacation spot? Oh you hit a soft spot!! I am a travel fiend. There are so many places I want to go. I have files and files of where to go, what to see. I travel like I’m running. As soon as one trip is over, I’m planning the next one.My favorite place is Africa. My God, it changes your molecules. It’s one of those places where you have to go back. I have to go back. When I was there, I was on safari for a week. We went down to Cape Town and saw the city.

We visited Victoria Falls, went on an elephant trek. The whole experience was unbelievable. The food is amazing. I had some of the most incredible meals of my life. The wine country was gorgeous -- similiar to Sonoma.

While we were there we met these people who were in a really tough situation. Things were happening politically and this group were sending things in crates, because they were under siege. So we happened to make friends with a local businessman who told us the kids in the area had it really bad, because of the political happenings.

So when we got back we sent things for the kids to help -- jackets, shoes, pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks. It was so wonderful. I don’t know when I’ll go back. I really want to do an elephant trek in Thailand next.

What sort of activities do you and your daughter do togeth-er? How do you spend time? Since she’s gotten the horse, riding has been a blast for us. We recently went on a trail ride. I love it because it’s something we can always do together. Lessons are good, but you’re restricted. This trial ride was fun. We were run-ning, playing, laughing. I’m glad she had a chance to have that sort of fun. Even though she isn’t growing up the way I did, she still gets to enjoy a part of it. We’re kind of afraid to let kids go out now. We watch them do everything. It’s sad that there’s no sense of freedom like there used to be, because from that comes a sense of responsibility. She has her dog that she takes care of, but it’s not the same.

What is one thing most people don’t know about Eva, or would be surprised to know about you?Well, this is something I was actually surprised to learn about myself; I am ridicu-lously lactose intolerant. I’m just like, “what the heck?” It just happened out of the blue! An onset of lactose...out of nowhere.

What is your most marked characteristic? I’d say being non-judgemental. I see everyone’s perspective.

What is your motto or words to live by? There is one that I love, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Favorite thing about fall? I was never really a fan of Halloween. I mean we always had fun, but as an adult I didn’t really celebrate it. But now that I have a child the fun is back. Over here, it’s one of the biggest holidays. We have a blast. The last three years have been such fun. Our streets are like “Candy Cane Lane,” but for Halloween. Usually my girlfriends come over with their kids and we have a party. Then we have an adult party. We’ve had huge caskets and I’ll stream the CSI crime scene tape all over. It’s such a good time!

Signature fragrance? I have about four or five, but my top two I’ll tell you. I love KAI. The smell is great. It stays on. I keep it in my purse -- the roller ball. It’s easy to re-apply and so fresh. Also, I love Dip-tyque perfume. They usually make candles, but they have a fragrance. It’s called, l’ombre vans l’eau.

What’s on your bedside table? A silver alarm clock, a lamp, a vase of flowers, a few coffee table books. Right now I’m reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. It’s long and a tough read. You just have to absorb it slowly. I’m also reading A Mercy by Toni Morrison. She won the Noble Prize for this book. It’s really great. Set in the 1680’s, about the slave trade. It’s well-writ-ten. Absolutely amazing.

Now onto CSI Miami…

You’re filming CSI? What’s happening for the upcom-ing season? Can you di-vulge anything? We are filming. We’re on the fifth episode for the eighth season. This season, we’re actually changing things up quite a bit. Adam is leaving. Eddie just started. We’re going back to a lot of the original episodes. The focus is more on teamwork. This season is more about the cases, the science and solving the puzzles. You know you’ll see more of David in the lab coat.

What is your motto or words to live by?

Wineries

Not too many wineries in the valley get to call themselves the “fi rst commercial vineyard in Temecula.”

That regal title only goes to one, Bella Vista Winery. The winery sits in a small space carved out by the earth with lush, leafy vines growing along Calle Contento. Aft er winding around one of the regions many hills you arrive at a humble winery with wines that show a lot of maturity and preci-sion. Under the careful ownership of Imre and Gizella Cziraki, a charming duo of the former Cilurzo Winery, became Bella Vista and began putt ing out a approximately 15,000 cases of wine not limited to a 2003 Viognier, a 2002 Sonata and 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon using eighty-percent estate grapes. The winery’s owner, Imre has a storied history with the fruit. Sett ing him apart from so many other winemakers, Imre began making wine at the tender age of seven with his grand-father in Hungary. In 1982, he purchased his fi rst vineyard. Imre’s love for wine is

indescribable as is the Bella Vista commit-ment to tradition. Even the tasting room features throwback details like the barrels used to prop the “bar,” the tapestries on the way and the half-moon windows off ering views of Temecula’s landscape. Bubbles? Those like to come out and show off too at Bella Vista. One of the few producers of a sparkling wine, Bella Vista’s champagne is lightly colored and laden with fi ne bubbles for a smooth, not overly sweet or brut taste that makes you feel good inside.

a spectacular view and ideal elevation of 1,400 feet, and their varietal is a tip-off from the esteemed Rhone Valley in France. The Rhone grapes are held high on these some 44 acres and 12 extended estate acres. The Southern Rhone Valley, which reaches high temperatures, much like Temecula allows for production of a beautiful fruit. In the case of Miramonte, they’re deliver-ing highly aromatic and sophisticated wines. The secret? Consistency and minimal intervention. The goal? Depth and character. The best choices? A 2006 Viognier that spends four months in French Oak or a 2005 Sauvignon Blac that’s distinguished by a clean, crisp taste and cut grass aromas or the house made bott led red Sangria. Such an upbeat vibe and modern collection of wine should be met by a blocking off of the so-cial calendar. Miramonte stays as busy as you with a Girl’s Night reserved for the fi rst Thursday of every month. The right additions are in place so to make the girl’s only club ultra exclusive (to you and your set, of course) -- desserts, spa treatments, wine and chitchat. What more could you ask for? Probably more nights like this. But to hold you over for the femme fetes, grab a group and take in some sounds as you sip. Friday and Saturday nights (they’re open until 10:00) were made for fun at Miramonte as they always bring in live music with ev-erything from blues to rock, jazz to vocal and sometimes comedy. And like any good win-ery, Miramonte off ers etched bott les fi lled with your favorite wine. Think, Bon Jovi or Madonna, etched into a wine bott le make for quite the conversation piece. Up next, a six month expansion for the property. That would mean more wine and more fun. Mi-ramonte, young at heart, seasoned in vino.

Miramonte Winery“Relax,” “unwind,” “enjoy” serve as the only instruction the eight year-old Miramonte Win-ery gives. Upon entering, visitors who want to sip in a contempo sett ing will get just that. You’ll fi nd no vintage-esque decor, certainly no impos-ing visions of grapes on a vine to conjure the wine-country feel. This is the winery that lets the wine do the talking. However non-traditional the interior -- round highboys with triangle bar stools, eye-catching pieces from Left Bank Art, vats to your left , lounge space and fl at screens -- the off erings are more than ready to compete with the best of them. Such a youthful spirit could only be the doing a of a young entrepreneur. In 2001 a then thirty-two year-old Cane Vanderhoof, founded the winery, and in a short time began

producing award winning wines. But fresh off of the dot com bust, why Temecula? Because Cane believed Temecula is what Napa was 30 years ago and there’s a harmonious eff ort to redefi ne

Leonesse Cellars

So much is in a name. Leonesse Cellars doesn’t escape this common convention. With a name that translates as “village

of dreams,” the boutique producers (roughly 10,000 cases annually) spreads 70-acres of vines across the rolling hills of Temecula and has the potential to make your dreams a real-ity. A selected group of varietals call Leonesse their home: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, White Merlot, Muscat Canelli, and Cinsault Port. The goal here is to create wines that parade the true flavors and nuances of the fruit through traditional fer-mentation in small French and American oak barrels. But perhaps you’re a novice, fairly new to the wine scene and don’t yet know how to pick apart the grape. Leonesse loves your kind. They’ve designed a tasting and touring program to turn you into and Inland oenophile or help you brush up on your wine-speak, whatever your level of ex-perience with vino. Grab one or fifty of your best girls to explore all that Leonesse has to offer through one of their hosted tours. Finally an opportunity to learn the story behind your Sav Blanc. If you’re a little more privy to the fruit, a Private Signature Tasting might be your bag as you and your group will sample the vineyards limited production, signature and library wines, all paired with cheeses, naturally. Even opt for a charming sunset vineyard tour, where you’ll taste as you ride. Anything is possible in this little

village. Founded in 2003 by Mike Rennie and Gary Winder, the winery has its roots in agriculture, as both owners have over fifty years of agriculture and grape-growing knowledge combined. They’ve approached wine making with passion and commitment, which some could argue has been lost in the wine world. In fact, the entire wine experience at Leonesse takes on a spirit of enchantment as your tour the land, decompress in the cozy tasting room and dine at Small Bytes, the on property eatery. Wine country cuisine, much like the fruit should never be compromised, that’s why Small Bytes serves fresh fare using nothing short of seasonal ingredients. How are house made pate, soups, salad dressings, artisan sandwiches, boccadillos, thoughtful entrees and delectable desserts to pair with that estate white or red that you loved so much? Leah Di Bernardo and Daragh Matheson head up the kitchen taking it a cut above the rest, not only in flavor but in presentation as well. That heirloom tomato salad might leave you wishing you could work culinary wonders at home. That’s a cinch. Chef Leah hosts a cooking class and preps your palate for the next level in culinary mastery. Food, wine, views...All of your dreams come true.

Leonesse Cellars, 38311 DePortola Road, 951.302.7601

Wineriestakes these babies to new heights. His vines will mesmer-ize as they’re gently handled and approached with care. You’ll want to tour them, and that’s not a problem. Wilson Creek Winery’s design is ideal for strolls and lounging. A delicate white bridge spans against the family dubbed “Wilson Creek” to make way to a sweet garden, where untouched buds are on display, and a sitting area. Along the modernized property are several wedding sites, including a 25-foot gazebo overlooking the stream. Fall weddings are an absolute at the winery. But before brides settle down into matrimony, many make their way to Wilson Creek for bachelorette shin digs. Ladies sip on glasses of the top-notch 2007 Estate Viognier that boasts of rose petal and tangerine aromas or the 2008 Estate Muscate Canello, that’s laced with tropical fruit, apricots and roses -- a must with a spicy dish or for the spicy bride-to-be. The Creekside Grille was designed with the wine enthusiast in mind. A covered patio sits against the vines and a few feet from one of the gazebos, looking at the entire property and all of its splendor. Savory dishes are easy to come by with the seasonal offerings on hand.

Wilson Creek is the winery that knows how to socialize, without a doubt. No way you’ll be “tardy for the party” (thanks wigged out Real Housewife, Kim Zolciak) at this place.

Wine Club appreciation nights, live music, Cigar Night (for the boys) and NYE events keep Wilson Creek’s dance card full. But the harvest time headliner is Sip, Savor & Stomp, happening October 4th. Falkner Winery

Off the main drag, but still deep into wine country, lives Falkner Winery. You’re taken aback as you pull up

the hill to arrive at a sweet darkly colored “house,” outfitted in dancing vines and ivy. You’ll feast your eyes on the porch and the intricate stained glass windows and imagine sitting in that picturesque spot for the rest of your days, with a half glass of Falkner’s newly released 2008 Rosato in hand, of course. Falkner Winery is perched upon its hill like a little slice of heaven; the stunning property bears an equally charming narrative as it’s owned by husband and wife, Ray and Loretta Falkner. But before you can sit back and enjoy the narrative, it’s key that you breathe in the space. The vines encompass the entire winery to yield Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Best Riesling in California (gold medal), 2008 Best in Show Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Merlot, Sangiovese and a proprietary wine, “Amante,” a robust red Tuscan wine. Steve Hagata, a thir-teen-year wine-vet is the guy to thank for all of the bounty. An afternoon on the property sets you back $15 and leaves you with an inside view of the wine vats, a logo glass, featuring the signature “F,” and perhaps even a boxed lunch option from the on-site resto, Pinnacle, which opened September 1, 2006, and is headed up by Executive Chef Gianni Ciciliot. Pinnacle resembles a coliseum from the exte-rior, while the inside is virtually life changing. How often do you dine on Mediterranean fare

at 1,500 feet? Surely not every day. Delicious eats, free jazz on Sunday afternoons through-out the fall, a wine club, a vintage Port and a VIP meeting room would seem like a dozen reasons to spend time with the Falkners. And they are. Until your beau decides to make it official, you won’t see yourself saying “I do” anywhere else. It’s only fitting that the winery who hosts the most nuptials in Temecula be under the ownership of a loving duo. Ray lends his time to crafting fine sips for the fete, while Loretta, a stunning and efficient woman, with a fashion heavy background, heads up the wedding world of Falkner. Up to six wed-dings in one weekend isn’t unusual for the crew. They do it with an unmet sophistication and ease so to help you create something that’s “yours,” as Ray says. This is the only winery that can legally stay open all night, as they’re not riddled with noise restrictions, they’ll cater the entire event and work with outside ven-dors to ensure absolute perfection. No need to go “bridezilla” here. Imagine, an afternoon exchange of the vows. You’ll wistfully walk through the ivy-laced archways, down to the lush courtyard a few feet from the merlot vines and pledge your allegiance to the love of your life. You always knew wine (especially Falkner’s) would end in a “happily ever after” kind of moment. Falkner Winery, 40620 Calle Contento, 951.676.8231

When a couple finds something they love and share, the desire to recre-ate it is almost inevitable. Buzz and

Kimberly Olson purchased 20-acres along Rancho California Road in 2003, bringing their penchant for wine and Tuscany to the Inland Empire. Enter, Tesoro Winery. As for the magical group’s current doings, they’re crafting a beautiful collection of Mediterranean style wines, that blossom so sweetly in the Tem-ecula Valley. Tastings are a must. Or select a soothing on a light note, like the Dolce Innocenza -- an aromatic wine with spice, pear, apricot and a honeyed finish, who likes to linger on the tongue. Mount Palomar

One of the older wineries in the region, Mount Palomar embodies a distinct Old World spirit. The traits often

associated with the boutique or small family owned wineries of Europe manifest them-selves within the forty-acre estate. Founded in 1969 by John H. Poole (a pioneer of the Temecula Valley wine country and culture), the luscious property sits upon rolling hills at 1,400 foot elevation overlooking the Palomar Mountains. The tasting room is situated into a precious alcove, showcasing a rustic build-ing so reminiscent of Italian days gone by. The courtyard of tile, English tea roses and other carefully selected greenery, streamed bulbs and canvas shades held by Provencal poles seems the ideal fit for an evening of wine, laughter, dancing and good fortune. But Mount Palomar is more than a good time, it’s one-hundred percent self-sufficient, bottling their own production, and was the first in the region to grow Sangiovese and Syrah and was under family-ownership until 2006. As for the wines, Mount Palomar produces some of the most palate pleasing wines in Temec-ula. They are one of ten wineries in the nation to grow 2007 Castelletto (meaning castle in Italian) Cortese (meaning courteous

in Italian). The “courteous castle” wine makes Mount Palomar shine as this luscious white offers up hints of kiwi, ripe green ap-ple, apricot and candied fruit aromas. With a 2004 Best of Class Southern California Syrah, a delightful 2005 Castelletto Trovato (spicy vanilla, black cherry red) and a list of others, the winery’s golden Solera Cream Sherry is a take-home no matter what the occasion. The rich hazelnut and caramel dessert wine is the definition of decadence, bearing the Castel-letto crest -- a marker from the winemaker’s wife, Olivia de Reya Poole, the Italian family name, and offering up the taste of all things good in the world. Celebration of autumn is not approached with trepidation as Octo-ber means an Oktoberfest with German bratwurst, strudel, lederhosen and Mount Palomar Riesling, while November is set aside for live music and every month means themed wine club dinners. Looks as though sipping fine Italian style wines doesn’t have to happen under the Tuscan sun, but in your own backyard.

Also, inducted into the Keyways empire was a 3500 square foot event center that dazzles under candlelight. The Rose Terrace reigns as a signature wedding destination, too. The philosophy behind Keyways is your favorite -- romance. Terri has sought to create the most romantic spot in all of Temecula Wine Country. Her success has been unmatched to date. Sundays mark a special day at Keyways as the unconventional cousin of wine, Sangria, makes “her” appearance with a delightful partner, the serenade. So

how do you spend a Saturday if Sunday is left to the devices of Sangria? Well, you’ll spend it appropriately sipping upon a Muscat Mojito and taking in the tunes. A signature beverage at Keyways, this nontraditional mojito skips the rum for the sweet wine. Magnificent, indeed. When the sun sets on the estate vineyards, a bevy of Viognier, Roussanne, Tempranillo and Grenache vines, and your equestrian (Keyways is a pony-friendly zone) adventure through the vines comes to an end, Keyways illuminates like no other winery in the valley. An ideal moment to sit back and gaze with a dainty glass of the winery’s revered ice wine. The 2006 Krystal Ice Wine with its peach and pear nectar notes and dry finish sums up the experience at Keyways -- delicate, refreshing, sweet, and worth savoring. There’s really no other way, but Keyways. Keyways Vineyard & Winery, 37338 DePortola Road, 951.302.7888

am woman, see me wine? Yes; but only if you’re talking about Keyways Vineyard & Winery -- the only female owned winery in Southern

California. Two-thousand and four marked a change in the wine industry, a woman, Terri Pebley, was taking over. Originally planted in 1989, but taken over by Terri, a longtime businesswoman and wine enthusiast, Keyways was known for its Zinfandel, but change was quick to arrive. Terri’s digs have transformed to include a lush green and terra cotta wonderland, surrounded by mountains and horse ranches, situated beneath the dazzling blue sky. The enchantment of Keyways exceeds a wine lover’s expectations. Perhaps it’s a woman’s charm that has allowed this spot to resonate the way it does. Or, perhaps it’s Terri’s relentlessness for outstanding wines. Winemaker, Mike Tingley has helped to make Keyways a recognized and a continued champion, receiving 42 medals in 2008. Keyway’s 2007 Chenin Blanca is harvested from 40 year old vines and continues to please palates every time, while the winery’s 2005 Frolich takes the front seat as a premiere red. Crafted from a lesser-known varietal, the Lemberger grape was a favorite to little Frenchman, Napoleon Bonaparte. Shortly after Terri’s arrival, the tasting room underwent a make-over to reveal a gorgeous rustic and inviting decor. An angled wooden beam ceiling, buttery walls and vintage circular chandeliers set the town.

The focus at Ponte isn’t about being over-the-top, but taking an understated approach where wines are produced in smaller batches to help maintain that distinct taste that you’ll come to admire. Pinot Grigio, especially the 2007, is a light and crisp selection that never does a girl wrong and Muscato promises a gentle burst of bubbles to accompany your celebration meal. But beyond the property tours and pinots is Ponte’s progressive green initiative. They’ve taken so many steps to ensure conscious wine production and business practices -- something you like to hear -- from working with a “Green Team” to reduce their carbon footprint, making the switch VOC paints, using soy-based ink on labels, and lightweight bottles to restaurant compost re-appearing as soil for the flowers on-site. If Ponte becomes the spot where you and your suitor will become a Mr. and Mrs., you’ll find your wedding sprinkled with “greenery.” Wedding invites, save the dates, place cards and “thank you’s,” can all be “conscious” at Ponte as the winery works with eco-friendly vendors to help a new couple express their love while doing their part. The delicate flowers appear in a tranquil garden that the Ponte brothers have created; a manicured space where white English roses and whimsical greenery take up residence. The move towards sustainability includes providing this natural outlet and a place to relish in the valley’s beauty. Ponte Family Estate Winery is involved in so many facets that make up the wine industry (a delightful brunch being one of them), but they’ve also extended their brand to support a number of local charities. Most recently, the winery raised over $15,000 in honor of Ranch Damacitas, a nonprofit that provides treatment to maltreated or neglected children. In the past Ponte has hosted service days, movie nights for a cause, and donated to the Arts in Murrieta organization. Talk about sharing as caring. You never knew wine could be so giving, right? Well, the family believes, “If you like it, it’s good wine.” That goes for the environment too. Drink wine; give back.

You’ve always known wine to be that magic elixir that provides you a slight twinge of joy. Ponte

Family Estate Winery comes to the vine with a whole new outlook. Two brothers, Claudio and Roberto Ponte have allowed a host of Cabernet, Merlot and Chardon-nay to grow happily upon their 350-acre property for the past 30 years. And while Muscat, Sangiovese and Zinfandel call the sprawling winery home as well, there’s more to Ponte than the delicate nose or a pleasant finish. The country-style tasting room, with its open beamed ceilings and oversized tasting counters, gives a chance to sample a carefully curated catalog of wines.

Keyways vineyard and wineryAlso, inducted into the Keyways empire was a 3500 square foot event center that dazzles under candlelight.

Magnifi cent, indeed. The 2006 Krystal Ice Wine with its peach and pear nectar notes and dry fi nish sums up the experience at Keyways -- delicate, refreshing, sweet, and worth savoring. There’s really no other way, but Keyways. Keyways Vineyard & Winery, 37338 DePortola Road, 951.302.7888

I am woman, see me wine? Yes; but only if you’re talking about Keyways Vineyard & Winery -- the only female owned winery in Southern

California. Two-thousand and four marked a change in the wine industry, a woman, Terri Pebley, was taking over. Originally planted in 1989, but taken over by Terri, a longtime businesswoman and wine enthusiast, Keyways was known for its Zinfandel, but change was quick to arrive. Terri’s digs have transformed to include a lush green and terra cott a wonderland, surrounded by mountains and horse ranches, situated beneath the dazzling blue sky. Craft ed from a lesser-known varietal, the Lemberger grape was a favorite to litt le Frenchman, Napoleon Bonaparte. Shortly aft er Terri’s arrival, the tasting room underwent a make-over to reveal a gorgeous rustic and inviting decor. An angled wooden beam ceiling, butt ery walls and vintage circular chandeliers set the town.

They’ve taken so many steps to ensure conscious wine production and business practices -- something you like to hear -- from working with a “Green Team” to reduce their carbon footprint, making the switch VOC paints, using soy-based ink on labels, and lightweight bott les to restaurant compost re-appearing as soil for the fl owers on-site. If Ponte becomes the spot where you and your suitor will become a Mr. and Mrs., you’ll fi nd your wedding sprinkled with “greenery.” Wedding invites, save the dates, place cards and “thank you’s,” can all be “conscious” at Ponte as the winery works with eco-friendly vendors to help a new couple express their love while doing their part. The delicate fl owers appear in a tranquil garden that the Ponte brothers have created; a manicured space where white English roses and whimsical greenery take up residence. The move towards sustainability includes providing this natural outlet and a place to relish in the valley’s beauty. Ponte Family Estate Winery is involved in so many facets that make up the wine industry (a delightful brunch being one of them), but they’ve also extended their brand to support a number of local charities. Most recently, the winery raised over $15,000 in honor of Ranch Damacitas, a nonprofi t that provides treatment to maltreated or neglected children.

And while Muscat, Sangiovese and Zinfandel call the sprawling winery home as well, there’s more to Ponte than the delicate nose or a pleasant fi nish. The country-style tasting room, with its open beamed ceilings and oversized tasting counters, gives a chance to sample a carefully curated catalog of wines.

Affectionately dubbed, the gateway to Southern California’s Temecula’s Wine Country sits a cozy Thorton Winery.

The still family-owned winery moves into its twenty-first year of operation under the careful hands of a select few -- John, Sally and their son Steve Thorton and celebrated winemaker, Don Rhea. To understand Thor-ton, one must have a deep appreciation for quality, as you’ll find nothing less on these 20-acres. Don, who hails from Northern California approaches wine making with gusto. In his world, no two grapes are cre-ated equal; the care of each grape must be tailored to that varietal, from the temperature, the crush, picking and beyond, in order to bring out it’s characteristics and essentially make the grapes “shine” in the bottle. A real artisan approach, if you will. At harvest, Thorton’s Viognier settles for thirty-eight hours in massive temperature controlled vats,

allowing solids to fall and clear juices to rise (yeast gets added too) -- a prep for fermenta-tion. The caution and care on this property is astounding, hence the mind-blowing product. Perhaps that would explain why Thorton is the only winery in Temecula to produce champagne (sparkling wine). And with suc-cess they’ve done it. So much that Thorton’s Vintage Brut Reserve comparable to Schrams-burg, a leading California bubbly, beat out the famous Dom P. in a blind taste-test. The win-ery, “provides the highest quality and makes it work economically,” said John Thorton. So you’ve already decided that you’re infatuated with the mere mention of Thorton’s bubbles, so spend some time in their “Champagne ‘Cave,’” a cool room featuring the “must have” of wine -- beautifully crafted oak barrels.

In the midst of exotic travels, obsessing over Bravo’s Miami Social and lunch dates starring watermelon

salad, IE Style Magazine had the honor of chatting with Mom, Hollywood Wife, Former Model, magazine contributor, author and Cosmetic’s new Wonder Woman, Keisha Whitaker (yes, Forrest is her main squeeze). The former glossy-princess and runway favorite spoke with elegance and ease as she waxed poetic about the happenings with the fall collection of her lip gloss line, Kiss-able Couture. Keisha also dished the details on some of her beauty “must haves,” and why the IE catches her attention.

IE Style Magazine: After traveling the world and working with the top modeling agencies, Ford and Elite, what sparked your interest in cosmetics?

Keisha Whitaker: “AJ Crimson (renowned celebrity make-up artist), who is my business partner, and I had worked together in the past and he had this idea that he really wanted to cre-ate the next big thing in cosmetics. We decided what we wanted to create was a go-to cosmetic--something women would gravitate towards and get the same satisfactions that Bonnie Bell gave them when they were young.

Keisha Whitaker

Both AJ and I felt there was space in the market for this kind of product. With him having spent so many years in make-up and my modeling experience it just seemed like a perfect marriage.”

IESM: Did you feel like something was lacking in the beauty industry before launching Kissable Couture?

KW: “There was certainly an opening for a new product. It was time to do something fresh. I look at Kissable Couture as a way of “giving yourself a

gift.” You know, the product is decadent-- it’s not the average lip gloss. Even the packaging suggests that you’re “gifting” yourself. It’s sleek, black; the gloss is housed in a little box and finished with a ribbon. It’s meant to be opened and enjoyed. Especially in these times people want to make an “investment.” I think this product offers that to customers. It’s very special.”

KW: “Well, we’re doing a second release of Smooches, which is a collection of five mini lip glosses. The tones in Smooches reflect the fall hues, definitely decadent and feminine. Also, we’re releasing a new color, Elusive--this is a deep plum. A very rich tone. Finally, Awakening will be released as a mini for the fall, which is exciting. That’s a beautiful color. A lot of people really love it.”

IESM: What are of your most trusted beauty lines or products that you swear by?

KW: “I love Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer as well as Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Bricks. Jessica is always a favorite for nail color. Ziba Gotty Illuminating Cream at night. I love to moisturize. I’m such a believer.”

Meet Keisha Whitaker this fall at the Kissable Couture beauty event presented by Anela Apothecary and ieStyle Magazine November 7th RSVP to [email protected]

IESM: By looking at your website, it’s clear that you work with a healthy, but exclusive group of partners. How do you select your retail partners? And particularly, Temecula’s Anela Apothecary?

KW: “Well, the product is mostly offered at smaller retailers or boutiques. I’ve always been a boutique shopper. I find they tend to carry more unique products. And more so, I love the idea of the old fashioned apothecary, which is what led us to Anela. These places take the time to find quality products and they are quaint or often family owned. I did an in-store appearance last fall before the launch of our holiday set and I just loved Temecula. Michael [Bommarito] is great and the store carries wonderful products.”

IESM: Describe the name of the line--Kissable Couture. How did you arrive at this?

KW: “Lips are kissable. AJ and I just married the worlds of make-up and modeling with this project and arrived at the name. It’s a glamorous product, but still suitable for the everyday gal, as well.”

IESM: Fall is showing a return to decadence with a lot of plums, satin and not to mention sexy silhouettes. How does your fall collection reflect these themes?

Palm Pilot: The Only

Way to do “the Springs”

It was once an Old Hollywood playground where silver screen gems like Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor and a young Marilyn Monroe dominated the poolside in retro suits and oversized sun hats, studying scripts and sipping lazy day cocktails just to pass the time. With its glamour untouchable, unique and undeniable, Palm Springs reclaims its spot as the ambassador of desert sophistication.

Like a true desert chameleon, the city has transformed from swanky Rat Pack home base turned golfer’s

paradise to celebrated LGBT vacation spot and modish wonderland. Despite these changes, however, Palm Springs continually inspires and showcases its natural charms. The commanding San Jacinto Mountains create a dazzling backdrop to a host of palm trees, desert shrubbery, flora, fauna and Mid-century homes. The sky adopts a luscious blue by day and fills with powder puff clouds, performs a sensational sunset (as though on cue) then offers an enchanting noir finish to signify the day’s end. It’s a place where high afternoon temperatures lend themselves to pleasantly warm evenings, vintage tunes and convertibles are always in order, luxe boutique hotels and Spanish-style casitas outline the city and Palm Canyon Drive pours forth cheer and the promise of a peach margarita.

No surprise that Palm Springs mystique reveals itself best in the fall when the temperatures drop. Aside from the breathtaking landscape, you’ll find ways to do what one does best in California’s glittering oasis -- maximize pool time (don’t forget the sunscreen), thumb the glossies, dine al fresco, relax with a spa session, line your chakras, cocktail and leave town with a few trinkets from your favorite desert shops. Turn up the Sinatra and the let the desert splendor overcome you.

A sanctuary within a sanctuary, the Buddha Lounge hosts a co-ed Jacuzzi and a Waterfall Watsu Pool

(where you can score a Watsu massage). Carved out alcoves in the Buddha Lounge allow for unwinding, regrouping or refl ection solo or with a friend. The extras -- a vintage record player in each room, desert silk screens along the walls, a chance to create your own art and post in your room, the most comfortable beds in the desert (without a doubt), laundry service, and raining showerheads. The natural wonderland is still

highly sophisticated with its commitment to repurposing and sustaining at its core. As for the hotel as a whole you can feel free to check out a bike (no charge) and tour the city for the day, perch on the deck -- a must for the stargazer within, enjoy a poolside massage or brush up on your ping pong skills. The communal feel really comes to life in the celebrated Commune space builds on its name and achieves a true sense of community with the self-proclaimed “chill space.” A shallow pool and a community fireplace make up the oversized room that boasts lifting walls to marry indoor and outdoor activities. The home of music and the newly implemented wellness layer (yoga retreats, Pilates, health), shows the Commune is an exclusive find. Snacking is a cinch at the former

Denny’s turned fresh Mediterranean cuisine spot, Kings Highway. Fresh lamb dishes anyone? If it’s a light snack you seek, snatch a gem from the hotel’s edible landscape. The trees on property include figs, citrus and then some. When you’re ready to slip into your bikini and kick back in the water, think “family style.” Weekends at the Ace pool usually include good spirit, hammock lounging, yummy BBQ bites, refreshing cocktails and a DJ spinning tunes. As for the nights, drinks at the Amigo Room are a no-brainer. The tiny dive bar on property offers a good time and on Monday’s they offer Sissy Bingo (don’t wuss out). If you play your cards right, you’ll end up with a handful of aces.Located at 701 East Palm Canyon Drive, 760.325.9900

WHERE TO SPA: SPATERRE @ RIVIERA

Palm Springs

A holiday is hardly a holiday unless pure re-laxation ensues. Once you’ve pulled up to the tricked out hotel and sashay through the lobby, past the Swarovski encrusted pool table and lounge vignettes, along the army of chocolate and orange poolside chairs, you’ll arrive at SpaTerre, the premiere unwind zone of the recently reno-vated, Riviera Resort and Spa. Like Alice down the rabbit hole, guests find themselves enraptured by the beauty of it all. Four structured chartreuse armchairs mark the lobby, crystal covered lights hang from above and a dark wooden floor sup-ports your gait. Before you, a retail space with SpaTerre’s signature products and ultra-soft mi-crofiber bedding line. To your right, a full service salon. Three hair stations are equipped to provide cut, color, extensions, blowouts and beyond. Mani/Pedi is on-hand (and foot) as well. Move through the twists of the circular hallway to be greeted by black and white photographs show-casing the Buddhist tradition, vin-tage stained mirrors and up a ways to the right, the Buddha Lounge.

A sanctuary within a sanctuary, the Buddha Lounge hosts a co-ed Jacuzzi and a Waterfall Watsu Pool

(where you can score a Watsu massage). Carved out alcoves in the Buddha Lounge allow for unwinding, regrouping or reflection solo or with a friend. The entire spa embodies the Buddhist tradition ap-proaching each treatment as Balinese, Thai and Indonesian rituals. Each of the eigh-teen treatment rooms features a unique mosaic of the face of Buddha, Couples

Rooms play home to oversized tubs and showers, “Touch Rooms” are relegated for massage, “Wet Rooms” make for pleas-ant Vishi shower treatments coupled with scrubs, and the Zen Room is a space worth channeling your energy. Gather a group of girls to chitchat and decompress with a steam or shower, as the centered staff will bring in champs and berries. And for she who can’t go without her workout, Rivie Vinyasa Flow on Tuesday, Thursday and

Saturday mornings with yoga instructor, Melissa Fogle. Be glad, energize, get back in line and salute the sun.Located 1600 N. Indian Canyon Drive, 760.778.6690

WHERE TO NOSH: PURPLE PALM

RESTARANT @ THE COLONY PALMS

HOTEL

Haunting the main drag in PS is always a treat, but searching for a vintage inspired eatery might be difficult among the fun-

loving burger joints, patio spots and Mexican restos. Enter the Purple Palm Restaurant & Bar, which reigns as a desert supreme. Filled with a throwback spirit, the airy restaurant designed by, Martyn Lawrence-Bullard (one of the world’s most noted designers), is a decadent combination of colonial and luxurious. Photographic images of fan palms rest against a purple sunset while olive and eggplant hued furniture are situated throughout. Beautiful dark wood fans cool the spot and a splendid bar acts as the restaurant’s focal point. Take your eyes off impressive interior and peer out at the lush gardens of the prop-erty, where dainty purple flowers are scattered throughout. Of course, a place like this couldn’t avoid a captivating narrative: the name hails from Purple Gang mobster Al Wertheimer, who was the hotel’s original owner in 1936. The rich history makes for a unique dining experience knowing that the spot you’re perched in formerly paraded as a speakeasy, gambling spot and dare you know, a brothel.

This only makes that roasted beet salad all the more savory. Whether you opt for indoor or outdoor dining, poolside or patio, you and your brood are sure to be met with divine dishes inspired by the Mediterranean Coast. The impressive menu features a top-notch burger laced with caramelized onions, chipotle aioli and gruyere. But the epicurean fun hardly stops there. A grilled steak and feta salad, open-faced grilled tuna steak nicoise sandwich, Pacific prawns and house made falafel are all on hand. As for cocktails, the Purple Palm is full of them. The most noteworthy?

The lavendar mojito -- classic libation infused with a refreshing garden-fresh lavender. If you truly believe elegance starts from within, treat yourself to this quintessential Palm Springs restaurant and dine like a star.

Even Priscilla, Queen of the Desert knew the only way to approach a desert

holiday was with maximum fabulousness (she was a lavender bus after all). With lavish costumes, witty banter and a peachy persona, you will rule your surroundings. Nevertheless, you’ll have to know where to find the hidden treasures before you can get your crown. After creating your PS look, you’ll want to stock up on bath and body wonders -- to leave you smelling like a desert rose, naturally. High-end candles, exuberant home

fragrance and skincare all call Home 101 Apothecary their place of residence. The lovely little Shoppe, owned by badland resident, Greg McDermott, threw open its doors in 2000 and now celebrates ten years as one of the town’s most revered spots. Collections of exotic candles fill the room. From lines like Diptyque and Votivo, Molton Brown and Nest, Home 101 waxes poetic on wick. The “can’t leave this place without it” in the candle department hails the AQUIESSE Portfolio Collection, the Ginger Mango scent. Inspired by the essence of Central California the soy wax wonder is a fruitful marriage of scents, poured into a seductive smoke colored glass, bearing the Aquiesse “crest” on its front. As though you didn’t already crave the collection (eighteen fragrances in all from linen to pink peony) the packaging is what gives the product its flair. A luscious brown twill box houses your glowing treasure, that’ll delight your mood for over 100 hours. You’ve got your home covered and the focus moves to you. Stock up on the delicious scent of KAI. KAI is a pretty blend of gardenia, jasmine, tuberose and lily that’s available in so many forms -- perfume, room spray, body wash, lotion and cult favorite, body glow. Home 101 is also the place to go for Kate Sommerville goodies. Gather armfuls of her top-notch line. How about the Goat Milk Anti-Aging Cream to keep those wrinkles at bay or maybe even Exfolikate, to enhance that glowing dermis? Located at 392 N. Palm Canyon Drive, 760.318.9886
