t's funny how seasons and vacations can be so exciting as

they approach and then toward the end of them, you are ready for the next season or getting back to a routine. School is that way for most children. They are so excited to get out and take a break; let loose, but by the time it comes to an end they are so excited to get back to friends, and a routine of learning and fun. Residents saw this unfold on August 23rd as children put on their best attire, buses lines the streets, parents took pictures, and traffic thickened. All very exhilerating and touching on the thought that the holidays

Tennis Tip of the Month With USTA League tennis in full swing you want to be the best doubles partner you can be, right? Here are some great doubles partner rules to follow:1. Always give your partner credit for the win and never blame them for a loss.2. Find out what your partner needs and if you play with different partners be flexible.3. Be consistent not flashy. Try to set your partner up and not try a lot of big shots!4. Stay calm and relaxed.5. Never try to coach your partner, it makes them feel that you do not trust them.6. Use the word WE not YOU when discussing strategy. 7. Always stay positive and you’ll be the one everyone want to play with!

The fall golf season is just around the corner. We have a full compliment of Club, MGA, and WGA events on the calendars. If you have not joined the MGA or WGA, I would encourage you join. It is a wonderful way to meet other members, play in some great events, and most importantly have fun with your fellow members. The club will be hosting several events this fall including, the Couples Club Championship, Men's and Women’s Senior Club Championship. As well as October 20-22 will be the Men’s Member-Guest tournament. The Club Corp Charity Golf Classic will be held on Saturday, September 24. All members are encouraged to play. The money raised will be used to benefit three different charities. You may sign up online at www.clubcorpcharityclassic.com The format will be a scramble and will begin at 1:30. The cost is only $45, which includes golf and BBQ. This event is open to members,

family, and guests. Our Complimentary Golf Clinics have begun for the fall and winter months. These clinics are open to all levels of players. Each week we will focus on a different area of the game including, short game fundamentals, full swing shots, putting, and even some on course rules. The clinics will be conducted Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. We ask that you please sign up in the golf shop each week if you would like to attend.

Golf Tip:Are you having difficulty with your chip shots around the green? Most players having trouble with chipping tend to try and lift or help the ball in the air. Follow these fundamentals and you will be on your way to making more pars.

Chipping – Fundamentals:When setting up for a chip shot you should have your feet fairly close together, about a foot apart, with your weight on your forward foot (left foot for right handed golfers). You should almost be able to lift your back foot right off the ground. Keep your hands ahead of the ball, and make a short back stroke and follow through (always keeping your hands ahead of the ball and no wrist break - like a putting motion). Keep your legs and upper body still - only your arms and shoulders should be moving during the stroke. If your wrists break and you try to "help" the ball up into the air this will de-loft your club and you will most likely "skull" the ball, getting no lift at all.

Did you know that your heating and cooling system typically uses more energy than any other system in your home? U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy estimates that about 43% of your bill is devoted to heating and cooling! You can easily save money by maintaining and upgrading your HVAC system. However, says the EERE, upgrading to an energy-efficient furnace alone will not have as great an impact on your energy bills as using the whole-house approach to reducing energy consumption. Homeowners should combine proper equipment maintenance and upgrades with appropriate insulation, air sealing, and thermostat settings. The EERE estimates homeowners doing so can cut energy use for heating and cooling, and reduce environmental emissions, from 20 percent to 50 percent.

Money $aving tips for Your Heating and Cooling $ystemSource: Department of Energy

Heating and Cooling Tips from the EERE:• Set your thermostat as low as is comfortable in the winter and as high as comfortable in the summer; you can save up to 10% on heating and cooling costs with this simple adjustment• Clean or replace filters on furnaces once a month or as needed• Turn off kitchen, bath, and other exhaust fans within 20 minutes after you are done cooking or bathing; when replacing exhaust fans, consider installing high-efficiency, low-noise models• Hire a professional to inspect your system once a year• During the heating season, keep the draperies and shades on your south-facing windows open during the day to allow the sunlight to enter your home and closed at night to reduce the chill you may feel from cold windows• Check for disconnected or crushed duct

work; if air flow is restricted your system can be overworked• During the cooling season, keep the window coverings closed during the day to prevent solar gainLong-Term Savings Tips from the EERE • Select energy-efficient products when you buy new heating and cooling equipment; contractors should be able to give you energy fact sheets for different types, models, and designs to help you compare energy usage• For air conditioners: look for a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER); the current minimum is 13 SEER for central air conditioners while ENERGY STAR models are 14 SEER or more.

or a few days this November, the history and the future of Girl

Scouts will meet in Houston, Texas. With 100 years to celebrate and a new century ahead, we can guarantee that the 2011 National Council Session will surprise you, inspire you, inform you, and energize you as never before. Here are some of the highlights:• Our "Conversations of Consequence” panel discussions will illuminate the state of girls today and the roles we can all play in making 2012 the Year of the Girl.• A dozen different seminars provided by Girl Scouts University will equip Girl Scout professionals, volunteers, and parents with new skills for a new century.• Many of America's most accomplished women will be on hand to inspire us, including Yolanda Adams, Katie

Couric, Marlee Matlin, Soledad O'Brien, Houston Mayor Anise Parker, and Robin Roberts.• This year's National Young Women of Distinction will show us what the next generation of leaders can accomplish. We know they'll change the world because they already have.To help you take maximum advantage of Houston’s abundant shopping opportunities, we'll have two fashion shows, produced by the editors of Justine magazine.• And of course there's a party. A huge party. The kind of party that only happens once every 100 years. Promise yourself you'll go; you’ll rejoice in the decision.Hunter's Green troops can save if you register early at girlscouts.org/convention.

Boy Scouts of America Kicks Off Popcorn Fund-Raisers This Fall! This fall, Boy Scouts in Hunter's Green will kick off their annual popcorn sale. This annual fund-raiser aligns with one of the goals of Scouting—to teach youth within the organization how to become self-reliant. Through this popcorn sale and other fund-raising projects, we have the opportunity to teach Scouts how they—along with the combined efforts of other Scouts—can help make the world a better place. The safety of any products sold by Boy Scouts is of utmost importance to us. Recently, there have been safety concerns raised about popcorn brands that use diacetyl for flavoring, a common ingredient in many pastries, cake mixes, cookies, and candy. You can rest assured that popcorn sold by Scouts across the country is safe. We have contacted the Boy Scouts' popcorn suppliers and each company follows all USDA and FDA safety guidelines to produce foods that are safe for consumption. Also, all companies have voluntarily started removing diacetyl from their products. As one of the organization's most popular fund-raisers, the popcorn sale supports local units' Scouting throughout the year. Last year, over 70 percent of the fund-raiser's proceeds stayed within local councils. Of that amount, one-third of a council's proceeds went directly to the units that sold popcorn to fund their local programs and activities.

have been a Jaguar since the age of seven, from the “Home of the Panthers” to

“Benito Pride is Hard to Hide” and now to the “Home of the Wildcats” at Wharton HS. Being a resident of the Hunter’s Green community provides me with a safe environment to focus on academics and extracurricular activities since the 2nd grade. The simple gift of security as you walk or ride home gave me the opportunity and inspiration to become involved with clubs, classes, projects, as well as build social connections. As I embark on my senior year at Wharton HS, I look forward to accomplishing a

list of goals, not so much to “try to keep my room clean” type of goals, more so in “maintaining my responsibilities”. Since the 9th grade I’ve been a member of the class council and again I surpass the requirements to join this prestigious club during my senior year. In addition, I was elected the Future Business Leaders of America’s (FBLA) 2011-2012 President, and I will need to balance out my energy. Not only am I excited to take on this challenge, I am

honored to follow the previous president who set the bar so high, and I have large shoes fill. I will be tackling many club responsibilities such as: officer in the Wharton’s Christian club (Legacy), Vice-President for the Wharton Law club, member of the National Honor Society, top-tier debater in the Forensics Debate Team (4N6), and member of the SWAT club. Each position calls for my full attention and with a full class load (no fluff classes for this senior!) I look forward to personal growth which comes with testing my limits and pushing past them. I am also an active member of the Girl Scouts of the USA for 11 years. Contrary to popular belief, Girl Scout business entails much more then selling Girl Scout Cookies to the next door neighbors. Depending on your troop leader, you meet up twice a month to learn skills and useful information for future endeavors. In our free time we conquer those life skills and earn our patches, we also go camping, clean up misused parks and make small changes to the county. During my senior year I will earn the highest recognition you can achieve as a Girl Scout, the Gold Award. I am working with The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay to refurnish, build, and stock their food pantry. If there is anything Girl Scouts has taught me, it is do as much as you can because a little can do a lot. There are so many families in Florida that go to bed without dinner; the more I researched the more my heart sank. For the upcoming food drive and pantry I will aid the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay to help needy families within the community. Shortly before I wrote this essay, I overheard a group of fellow students having a conversation about the pressures of becoming a senior and how the adults in their family constantly hounded them about what they planned to do with their lives. As I got up to leave, I couldn’t get over how frustrated they were. What do I plan to do with my life you ask? Simple, I’m already doing it. I’m taking the steps that will one day, I hope, allow other

Hurricane Preparation:

Evacuating Your HomePart 3 of a 3 Part Series

E very year Floridians are faced with the possibility of hurricanes. Most years these dreaded storms do not land on our shores and

mainland. However, in the not too distant past hurricanes have had devastating effects on many communities in Florida. During the months of potential hurricanes, it is important to plan for the worst. For example, you and your family may be asked to leave your home due to some emergency conditions in your community. Your local emergency officials will not ask you to leave your home or location unless there is a valid reason. Do not try and second-guess the validity of their request. Do as they say immediately. These requests and related information will come through radio broadcasts or the local TV station. Different warning methods may be used such as a siren or telephone calls. The most important thing to keep in mind is to have a plan for a possible evacuation. Be prepared to evacuate and keep the following suggestions in mind:11. Emergency Shelters Know in advance where the emergency shelters are located. If there is more than one in your vicinity, know all the locations. The steps you should take in preparing for shelter depends on the type of emergency situation. For example, during a tornado you should go to an underground room if it is available. During a hurricane, go to the most well fortified building in your location. These emergency shelters are usually announced well ahead of a hurricane warning.12. Shelter in Place If your emergency officials tell you to “shelter in place,” this means you should remain inside your home or office.• Close and lock all windows and exterior doors.• Turn off all fans, heating, and air conditioning systems.• Close the fireplace damper.• Get your disaster kit and make sure your radio is working.• Go to an interior room without windows that is above ground level.• Keep listening to your radio or television until you are told all is safe or that you are to evacuate. The length of your stay can range from a few hours to two weeks. During this time you should maintain a 24-hour communications and safety watch. Take turns with family in listening for radio broadcasts.• Assemble an emergency toilet, if necessary. Use a garbage container, pail, or bucket with a snug-fitting cover. If the container is small, use a larger container with a cover for waste disposal.Line both containers with plastic bags. After each use, pour or sprinkle a small amount of a regular household disinfectant, such as chlorine bleach, into the container to reduce odor or germs.13. Predetermined Meeting Place Have a predetermined destination for meeting your family in the event you are separated from them. This will save time and anxiety if you are told to evacuate. 14. Children at School Have a plan for who is to pick up the children from school or how they will be taken care of and by whom.15. Animals and Pets Have a plan for caring for animals in the event of an emergency evacuation. These preparations can help ensure safety and peace of mind if a weather emergency occurs!

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

M r. Dallas Smith, who got his first paying gig at age 11, worked full

time as a traveling magician throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He performed at schools, cruise ships, private parties, and corporate event. In 2003, he and his wife, Patti, adopted an infant daughter, at which point Smith took a job in corporate America to be closer to home. Eighteen months ago, he went back to magic or as he calls it “Edutainment” full time. "I've never wanted to be a famous magician," said Smith, 46, who lives in Wesley Chapel. "I just wanted to make a decent living doing what I love and teaching life lessons to children. To me, that's success." His magic shows promote reading, math, anti-bullying, and character building among school-aged children. He also sends a “Teachers List” to the schools the week

prior to the performance which includes additional vocabulary words for the week along with activities to reinforce the message behind the chosen theme. It is not uncommon to see Dallas more than once a year at a school; he is frequently re-booked to come back the next year. Because of his popularity Dallas has created 5 themed shows: Stop Bullying Now, Math is Magic, Reading is Fun, Just Say No, and Character Building. National studies have shown that 60 percent of learning comes from visualization; Smith says with that statistic and the verbal lesson his student’s walk away remembering almost all of his points. Dallas has performed for as many as 1,000 students at a time! Teachers, librarians, and principals comment on how amazing it is to hold their attention for up to 45 minutes.

Smith is often accompanied with his 8 year old daughter who is a major contributor to the show. Smith said he is blessed to have one of the students that he teaches life lessons to right there with him saying “ that is a great message dad” or no way get rid of that routine For additional information on his services, or for booking information, he may be contacted at 813-494-1484. Also, check out his website at www.DallasSmithMagic.com. Dallas Smith also performs at birthday parties, special occasions and at various venues. HG

he New Tampa Little League Majors baseball all star team did something

this summer that no baseball team from our park has ever accomplished in it's history. They won the Florida championship and were the runner-up champions in the regional tournament held in Warner Robins, Georgia. The team was able to win districts, but only after a 12-11 win versus Land O Lakes in an extra inning game in the semi-final. The championship game, vs Land O Lakes again, they won 14-8 to advance to sectionals. This year at sectionals they coasted going 3-0 and outscoring their opponents in those 3 games 39 to 7. After starting 1-0 in pool play versus Palma Ceia, they got crushed 11-1 by the Miami team to set their record at 1-1. They needed a big win versus Orlando and were only able to pull out a 6-5 win in the last inning to advance to the state semi-finals. In the semi's they beat Niceville 6-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Ethan Thomas. That set up a rematch with the

T Miami team. Behind a brilliant pitching performance by Conor Grady, the New Tampa team won 5-1 to win their first boys state title in the park's history and the second state title in two years as our girls Majors softball team won the Florida title last year. From there they headed to GA with high hopes of reaching the Little League World Series. They boys faced tough competition versus West Virgina, Virginia and South Carolina in pool play, but battled through to go 3-0. That set up a semi-final against Alabama, on ESPN2, who was the two-time defending regional champion. After falling behind 6-4, they took a 12-6 lead and pulled out the win with Conor again pitching masterfully for the win. The championship game was against the home town team Warner Robins Georgia on ESPN on Friday August 12th. One win away from the LLWS, the boys not only had to battle the 13 players on the

Georgia team, they also had 10,000 plus fans screaming against them. They put in a wonderful performance vs GA with Ethan Thomas pitching the game of his life. The boys of New Tampa, however, lost 4-2. The team became the dream team of New Tampa Little League and will forever live in the parks history as one of, if not the best team to ever come out of our park! NTLL is currently accepting late registration for the fall softball and baseball seasons. Please visit www.newtampalittleleague.com for more information.
