here is a lot of excitement coming up and you can be

involved with it all. First, The Taste of New Tampa is coming up in March. We have partnered with the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce to make it a really big venue this year. The new location is at The Shops of Wiregrass and will be held on Sunday, March 11th. The hours have been extended, as well, to run from 12pm to 6pm. There is an ad and article on page 10 that goes over everything. If you would like to be part of this traditional event as a vendor or sponsor, please let us know. Second, we have also partnered with the Tampa Bay Times digital division to bring you the second FREE Facebook seminar on Wednesday, February 29th. Yes, that is leap day! :) That information is on page 6. Last, but not least, we have two contests, that will start in the March issue, for all residents of Hunter's Green.

The Cover Photo contest will now have an added benefit. Not only will the winning photo be on the cover, but a gift certificate from a local business will be awarded as well. So, send in your resident photos of events, sports, happenings, social clubs, school events, charities, special announcements like birth, wedding or graduations and anything fun! The second contest will be "Find the hidden picture or word". There will be a picture or phrase you will need to find in one of the advertisements each issue. All correct entries will be entered in the monthly drawing and one person will win a gift certificate from a local business. So, be on the look out for the contests in the next issue of HG News, send in your photos and stories and I hope you have a very Happy Valentine's Day!

Tennis Tip of the month

By Allegra Campos

The soft hit ball is not an easy ball. Most of today's tennis players are able to play well from the baseline. Everybody likes to bang the ball back and forth from the backcourt, but when a shorter and softer ball comes in, it becomes

interesting. Players need to master some fine motor skills as well as excellent speed and footwork in order to get to the softie and get it over the net. Sign up today to work with the Hunter’s Green professional staff and focus on fine motor skills necessary to chip and maneuver the racquet in uncomfortable situations. The ball will be fed in different places and at different speeds and heights. The player needs to find a way to get the ball over the net and can only chip it. The pro will emphasize the first step, the sprinting required to get to the ball, creating space around it so that hitting is possible, bending to the level of the ball, and being able to maneuver the racquet in uncomfortable situations. Endurance will also improve with these drills. Try these drills and you will see a difference!

This year the Taste of New Tampa 2012 will be held at the Shops of Wiregrass (Wiregrass Mall) on Sunday, March 11, from noon to 6 p.m. In collaboration with Cindi Matter and YOUR Community Newsletters, this is the 19th Annual Taste of New Tampa

Business and Health Expo which is the main membership drive event for the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Every year restaurants flock from Wesley Chapel, New Tampa, Tampa Palms, Lutz, Land O' Lakes and surrounding areas to set up a booth and offer a demi portion of several menu items. Previously held at Wharton High School, this year's Taste of New Tampa 2012 will be sure to have more event participation, since it is the first year to be held at the

Shops of Wiregrass, located at the northeast corner of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Florida State Road 56, approximately 1 mile east of Interstate 75.

As usual, we will pre-sell the tickets, but with a twist! This

year the Taste of New Tampa 2012 will use technology to help with ticket presales. Text message marketing codes will be in place, along with QR Code (Quick Response) Marketing to allow attendees to purchase their tickets online. Both of these marketing vehicles will be just one more way that consumers can use technology, get a discount but more importantly, avoid the long lines. YOUR Community Newsletters, Valpak, as well as the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce, will run separate text

words in each advertisement so that we can track the response! The presale ticket promotion will be buy 15 tickets, get three free tickets. You can text YCN to 41242 to start the process! Presale locations in the New Tampa area will also pre-sell tickets, including Cherry Berry Frozen Yoghurt in Highwoods Preserve.

We expect the crowd on Sunday March 11, (weather permitting) to be upwards of 6000 - 8000 people with the reach extending to the Wesley Chapel community, as well as Land O Lakes and Lutz, attracting people who may not normally come to the event. So be sure to order your tickets online or pick them up at a pre-sale location! Come out and experience the food, meet the local business owners, together with local artists while you enjoy live entertainment at the Taste of New Tampa 2012. Stay tuned for more updates as they

The New Tampa Relay For Life held their first Team party at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in New Tampa. The upcoming team party dates are February 21st, March 20th, April 17th and May 1st at 6 pm. “The team parties are a great opportunity to bring everyone together and share the mission of Relay, obtain fundraising ideas and resources, and recognize team accomplishments,” said Bill Holster Team Development Chair. This year’s theme for the 2012 New Tampa Relay For Life is “Journey To The Cure – Don’t Stop Believing”. Teams that attended the party and that registered online at www.relayforlife.org/newtampafl were able to choose a Journey song

title that will complement their campsite theme. Currently there are a total of 30 teams, 67 participants and over $6,500 raised. The goal is to have 45 teams and to raise $150,000. Fundraising is done online through the website. You can sign up online to create a team or join a team. Most of the New Tampa schools are signed up including Mort Elementary, Pride Elementary, Clark Elementary and Benito and Bartels Middle Schools . Both Wharton and Freedom High Schools are also actively involved. “This is a chance to show your pride and spirit in the community and to give back to a worthy cause. We really want everyone in New

Tampa to be actively engaged in supporting Relay,” said Bill Holster. We are currently seeking a volunteer for the Sponsorship Chair role. If you are interested in this role, or your business is interested in sponsorship, or you can offer a service or product for fundraising please call Sheri Ferguson at 813-892-9782. The New Tampa Relay For Life will be held on May 18th at 6 pm at Wharton High School and runs through noon on May 19th. Relay is an 18 hour journey providing the light of day and the dark of

night to parallel the physical and emotional effects that a cancer patient endures while undergoing treatment. One member of the team must be walking on the track throughout the 18 hour event. All funds raised through Relay For Life stay local in the community and go toward a variety of programs such as Road To Recovery and Hope Lodge. For more information on these programs visit www.cancer.org or contact Bill Holster 813-994-1512.

FROM THE EXPERT

Breast Cancer is the number one cancer in women. It used to be the number one cancer killer, but thanks to societal awareness and early detection with mammography most women are not dying after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Mammograms don’t prevent breast cancer, but they save lives by finding breast cancer early, leading to intervention and cure. Finding breast cancers early with mammography has also meant that many more women are able to keep their breasts without resorting to mastectomy.

What is Mammography? Mammography is a special type of X-Ray. It is a photograph of the breast using low dose radiation designed for imaging breast tissue and is very safe. Mammography is the most important tool radiologists have to help diagnose and evaluate women with lumps and to monitor women who have had breast cancer. Although mammography is the best tool for early diagnosis, mammography is not perfect - missing about 10% of breast cancers. So if you feel a lump and it doesn’t show up on mammography, let your doctor know. Many physicians will order an ultrasound or MRI to better evaluate a woman with symptoms. These imaging tests should not lessen the importance of regular breast self-examination and examination by an experienced

health care professional. Regular breast self exams are also very important, leading to early detection. Types of MammographyThere are two types of mammography exams, screening and diagnostic. Screening mammography is for women who have no complaints or symptoms. The goal of screening mammography is to detect cancer

when it is too small to be felt. Early detection of small breast cancers by screening mammography greatly improves chances for cure. Screening is recommended every one to two years after age 40 and every year after age 50. Diagnostic mammography is an

exam on a patient who has a breast complaint, such as breast lump, nipple discharge or an abnormal screening mammogram. These exams are more involved and more time consuming and are used to fully characterize the size and location of breast abnormalities. Women with breast implants will usually require the additional views used in diagnostic mammography. In summary, the benefits of mammography for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer is significant and saves lives. Mammography, even with its limitations, will continue to be

the gold standard with which other imaging tests are compared. Dr. Manuel S. Rose Board Certified Radiologist Founder of Rose Radiology Centers, Inc., www.MRIRose.com 813-788-2500.
