HELLO DEAr,Hopefully youre keeping well and enjoying your me here at the grand old
University of Glasgow. Alas with the nights seng in, the chill creeping round
and wee snivels simpering up to the back of lecture theatres, summer is all
away. I know how it is when deadlines and exams loom out of nowhere- youve
got no me- barnies start about how cold the ats allowed to be at nightand food turns from a relaxing break into just fuel for the machine.
Id just like you to know, if things are geng on top of you, theres a whole load of
acvies and support available right here at the University. So to turn any winter
frowns around and help ease any worries theres a rosy ve day health week of
acvies to help you keep healthy and happy in these new cold climbs. Get a massage
or take a laughter class and feel good, because youre a dear, really, you are.

STrETcH 2HArmONyUp at the gym the youngsters run lots of
tness workshops and sports classes and
training things week in, week out. For
Health Week, all of them will be free of
charge to give everyone a chance to see
how good they are. Stretch 2 Harmony is
one of the classes that takes place weekly
up there. The class improves exibility,posture and core stability - which sounds
especially useful for grannies. In just under
an hour the range of postures and exer-
cises should leave you feeling relaxed and
refreshed. It sounds excellent doesnt it?
If bubble baths and biscuits arent doing
the trick, this could be just the cket to get
you back to feeling just as brilliant as you
deserve to feel.Monday, 1310 - 1350

Those dears at the University Gym are be-
ing awfully kind. As well as making all their
sports sessions and workshops free to try,
theyre also throwing open the doors ofthe gym for Health Week, making their
brilliant facilies free to use. If youve
been peering in the windows wondering
how those fancy contrapons and line-
marked rooms can get you t, now is your
chance to nd out. Go onto the internet
and type in: www.gla.ac.uk/sport/ and
youll be able to keep up to date with the
dears and see whats to be happening.Monday - Sunday, check hours online

Its important to keep yourselves all
wrapped up if youre going to be around
the place this winter. The lovely chaps over
at the SRC have volunteers all week whollbe wandering round the vast Uni Campus
handing out free condoms- try and track
them down. Theyll be along to those pop-
ular club nights the unions run too hand-
ing out the wee wellies to help you keep
each other safe.

UrbAN WOrKOUTTheres a select group of people who think
park benches were just made to be sat on.
The sporty folk who organise this outdoor
urban workout are not part of that group.
Apparently benches can be use for a whole
range of exercises. This outdoor session
looks to turns the humdrum features of
our dear green city into an outdoor gym
full of possibilies with which to improve
your tness. It all sounds very excing,
and the man we chaed to described the
proceedings as intense. The session is
weather dependant so dont shoogle up if
its dreich outside.

Fancy a right laugh? If you do, head down
to see the bright buons from Joyworks
who are bringing their mini laughter work-
shops to the Uni to get you all in sches.Theyre prey keen to get you young
things laughing, and promised their events
will leave you more inspired, more open
minded, condent, full of energy and clos-
er to the people around you. Whatever it
is thats involved in all this must ckle the
right funny bones as this half-hour work-
shop has been jam packed in previous
years. Because you all loved it so much the
last me, this year weve booked them in
to do the whole thing twice.

FrEE mASSAGESTen minutes of sing back, relaxing and
having a good, free massage can do youthe world of good. Melt into some strong
hands and forget your worries thanks to
the kind dears at Woodland Herbs who will
be up at the Williams Rooms oering free
ten-minute mini-massages for a lucky few.
RSVP-ing is essenal for these sessions as
everyone seems to want massaging hands
on them. Consider this your invite, then

ZUmbAWhat a brilliant name for anything at
all- Zumba, as a name alone sounds just
fabulous eh? As one of the many weekly
classes which is free during health week,
Zumba promises a great aerobic work-
out along to Lan rhythms. The man
who does it says this free owing choreo-
graphed class suits all with high & low op-ons, learn how to create movement with
ease and atude. Sounds like the dancin
without cheese and chips.

HEALTH STALLTheres lot of dierent people who knowa whole lot about health, and a dierent
group of them will be coming in each day
to the Health Week stall downstairs on
level three of the Fraser Building to dis-
pense advice. Sandyford Sexual Health
Clinic, Mens Health Forum, Time to
Change Campaign, Sport and Recreaon
Service, and the Universitys Counselling
service and Inter-Faith Chaplaincy will bemanning the stall across the various days.
If any of those take your fancy, pop down
have a wee chat with them between ten
and three, theyre all lovely people.
Monday - Friday, 1000-1500
Third Floor, Fraser Building
rELAx &rEcHArGEHaving a nice wee breather now and again
is really important. Cups of tea can be very
nice, but Yoga can be handy too. Some fan-
tasc people who are brilliant at this sort
of thing are holding a wee workshop to
teach some techniques for keeping your-
self out of those stress frenzies. Theyll be
dishing out easy yoga and meditaon psand advice to improve mental clarity, re-
duce stress and anxiety, boost condence,
and increase mental potenal. Phew.

These are only some of the events taking place during Health Week- for more have a gan-der over the page. All sports clubs and exercise classes are also free to try during the week
