Business Week is a week-long engaging and authentic professional development opportunity for students of all ages. It facilitates face-to-face interaction between students and alumni, potential employers, and industry leaders. Through this, students develop soft skills and understandings that are essential for success in the professional world.

Leadership, corporate social responsibility, business etiquette, effective networking, goal setting, communication, and career management and enhancement are among the topics addressed through the week-long series of interactive events.

Robert Gibbons, Chief Marketing Officer/ Entrepreneur/Sales Professional/ Techie Recordation, Inc.

After being dropped off on the steps of

Redbird Arena, Rob Gibbons walked

on to the men’s basketball team in

the fall of 1993. He redshirted his

freshman year and would go on to earn

a full scholarship and later became a captain for a Redbird

team that would end up becoming the most successful

team in Missouri Valley Conference history. They were the

only team to date that has won back-to-back conference

and post-season titles. After graduating from ISU, Gibbons

headed to Europe where he spent the next four years playing

in the European Pro Leagues for teams in Spain, Italy, Ger-

many, Ireland, and Sweden, where he was teammates with

Ervin “Magic” Johnson. In Holland he also moonlighted as

a stand-up comic and toured the European countryside on

a Harley Davidson. After Europe he went to New York City

and worked in sales for one of the largest healthcare compa-

nies in the world. There he helped start a transformational

sales leadership team that would eventually become one of

the fastest-growing, highest revenue-producing sales forces

in the company’s long history. He would go on to become

a leader of successful start-ups Recordation Inc, an early

stage healthcare informatics company and his latest venture,

Sweep, a predictive analytics engine for operating rooms.

He has built multiple high-growth sales companies and has

a 10-plus-year track record of achieving multi-million dollar

revenue growth. He is passionate, decisive, innovative, and

highly valued for his ability to turn his vision into reality. Rob

earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University

and is a recent graduate of Harvard Business School’s Own-

er/President Management Program.

Pre-registration for the Professional Development Dinner is

required, as seats will be assigned to students upon comple-

The transition from college to corporate life can be daunt-

ing, but with well-directed guidance from experienced

professionals, students can achieve it. To help ease the

transition, distinguished College of Business alumni will

be returning to campus to share their experiences and

insights. The alumni chosen are masters in their specific

fields of expertise and will be providing unique and valu-

able perspectives.

The Transition Seminars are free and open to the public.

However, pre-registration is encouraged, as seats available

in the seminar rooms will be given first to those who have

pre-registered. Students looking for proof of attendance

for classes will be required to attend both seminars. All

session 1 seminars are repeated during session 2.

Following both Transition Seminars, there will be a net-

working reception in the College of Business Atrium. The

reception will provide students the opportunity to speak

individually with seminar speakers.

Corporate Social Responsibility is an ever-growing topic of conversation in the corporate world. It is the initiative to embrace

responsibility for a company’s actions and encourage a positive impact on society through activities involving consumers,

employees, communities, stakeholders, and the environment. Corporate Social Responsibility goes beyond what is required

by regulators and promotes the betterment of business practices for sustained positive change for consumers, employees,

communities, and stakeholders. As companies become more forward-thinking and involved in the community through their

core business practices, they create shared value for business and society.

This year, Business Week’s Corporate Social Responsibility Day will be sponsored by GROWMARK. Business Week’s 2016

CSR Case Competition will be a unique opportunity for students to apply their research, analytical, and presentation skills.

Teams of three students must develop and present a solution to a real-life business problem within a 40-minute time frame,

all teams have an equal opportunity to develop their solution. After a team’s preparation time is up, they will deliver their

solutions to a panel of judges.

Teams are required to pre-register before February 12 and show up 30 minutes before CSR day to sign-in. CSR Day is free

and open to the public. Proof of attendance will be provided at the doors after the case competition has ended.

Michael Keane, CFO of Genomatica

Michael Keane, a consultant and the

former executive vice president and

chief financial officer of Genomatica,

will give a talk titled “The Journey

to a Sustainable Future” at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday, February 25, at the Center for Performing Arts at

Illinois State University.

An alumnus of Illinois State, Keane is a member of the Col-

lege of Business Hall of Fame. Genomatica develops biobased

processes to produce chemicals with greater sustainability

than using petroleum- based feedstocks. Previous to his role

at Genomatica, Keane held similar executive leadership posi-

tions at Clipper Windpower, Inc., a wind-energy technology

company; Computer Sciences Corporation; and at UNOVA,

Inc. and Western Atlas Inc, industrial technologies companies.

Keane currently serves as a director and audit committee

chairman for the City of Hope, a nonprofit comprehensive

cancer center. He previously served on the boards of MRV

Communications, Clipper Windpower, Inc. and Zix Corpora-

tion. His associations include memberships in the Financial

Executives Institute, the American Institute of Certified

Public Accountants, and the Illinois CPA Society.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Illinois

State University and a master’s degree from the Anderson

Graduate School of Management at the University of California,

Los Angeles.

The talk, in celebration of Business Week, is sponsored by

the College of Business. The President’s Speaker Series seeks

to bring innovative and enlightening speakers to campus

with the aim of providing the community with a platform to

foster dialogue, cultivate enriching ideas, and continue an

appreciation of learning as an active and lifelong process.

All talks are free and open to the public.

the world to highly ambitious entrepreneurs. Their achievements not only attest to their commitment to excellence but

also add value to our College of Business programs and the Illinois State brand for all graduates.

Bill Allison, ’79 National Managing Director US Pursuit Center of Excellence, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Bill Allison is the National Managing Director

of Deloitte Consulting LLP’s Pursuit Center of

Excellence. In this role, Allison leads a team

of seasoned sales partners and directors who

coach teams on sales techniques and strategies

used to win client work. Allison has been inte-

gral in determining the types of accounts chosen to pursue, innovating

the pursuit process, and improving win rates. His ongoing leadership has

improved the practice’s operations and strategic positioning.

A principal with Deloitte since 1999, Allison has more than 25 years of

experience in the analysis, design, and implementation of information

systems, systems strategy, and business process improvement and has

worked with some of the largest, most complex technology clients in

the world. Passionate about delivering quality, Allison has championed

a robust standards, methods, and tools program to provide clients with

global consistency in resources, approach, and execution. Allison ac-

tively maintains relationships with senior executives at select vendors,

including Oracle, Salesforce.com, and SAP to cultivate alliances and

influence the co-development of partner solutions.

Prior to his current role, Allison held numerous leadership positions

including serving as the Global Consulting Technology Leader, where

he provided strategic vision to guide engagement teams on the delivery

of world-class, value-added, and highly differentiated services in Enter-

prise Applications, Technology Advisory, and IT Outsourcing services.

He relentlessly drove seamless delivery of the highest level of quality to

clients across the globe and acted in a risk and advisory role on many

of Deloitte’s most significant engagements. Under his leadership, De-

loitte’s Global Technology program was recognized as a leader in over

two dozen reports by Gartner, Forrester, and other analysts.

Allison has spoken at various internal and external engagements in the

U.S. and globally, provided media commentary on a wealth of topics, and

has published on subjects such as the innovative CIO and reinventing ERP.

Allison earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from

Illinois State University. Additionally, he attended the Northwestern

University Executive Program in Manufacturing Physics.

In his spare time, Allison serves as a trustee for the Autry National

Center and enjoys playing golf and guitar. He lives with his wife, Mary,

and daughter in Phoenix, Arizona.

Benjamin A. Hart, MBA ’95 President and Chief Executive Officer, Heritage Enterprises Inc.

Benjamin Hart is President and Chief Execu-

tive Officer of the Bloomington-based Heritage

Enterprises Inc. Founded in 1963, Heritage

needs of seniors. With over 50 years of experi-

55 facilities throughout Illinois and one community in Indianapolis.

Hart earned a Bachelor of Science in accountancy from the Univer-

sity of Colorado at Boulder. He proceeded to earn a master’s degree in

business administration from Illinois State University (1995). Hart’s

career in health care began in 1996 when he joined Heritage Enter-

prises, Inc. There he took on responsibilities for new development,

acquisitions, and capital reinvestments of projects in excess of $100

million. Additionally, Hart oversaw the functions of facility manage-

ment, information technology, environmental services, and marketing.

Hart serves on the Illinois State University Foundation Board and

the Illinois State University College of Business Advisory Council. He

also serves on boards for several business organizations, including the

Health Care Council of Illinois, Affordable Assisted Living Coalition,

and the Advocate BroMenn Philanthropy Council.

J. William Lin, M.S. ’70 President and CPA, Lin & Lincoln CPAs Ltd

Lin & Lincoln CPAs was founded in 1980 by

William Lin and has since been growing rapid-

ly into a full service CPA firm serving business

as well as personal in more than 30 states

and 10 countries internationally for: auditing,

taxation, accounting, financial planning, and

management advisory.

Lin received an M.S. in business administration from Illinois State

University in 1970, and in 1960 he received a B.A. from National

Chung-Hsing University, Taipei, Taiwan.

With an American dream in mind, he came to ISU for a master’s de-

gree in 1969. Prior to attending ISU, he worked as a high school teacher

and also worked for the National Bank of Communications in Taiwan.

As soon as he graduated from ISU, he concurrently served as chief

accountant for Computer Service Inc., Maxium De Paris, and Bistrol

Restaurant under the same owner.

In 1987, he organized the New Asia Bank, the biggest Chinese Bank

in the Chicago area, and he served on the board of directors for 18

years. During that time he chaired the loan committee, which contrib-

uted to the success of the bank and helped communities and people

with a low credit rate.

Lin serves on the board of directors for: Taiwanese World Chamber

of Commerce, Taiwanese American CPA Association of North America,

Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce of North America, and

Taiwanese American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Chicago. He

served on the board of directors for: New Asia Bank, AA Investment

LLC, Executive Building II Corp., Mt. Jade Technological Association,

Wilmette Family Services, and Asian American Advisory Council.

Besides Lin & Lincoln CPAs LLC, he has served as president for:

Hsing-Pei University Alumni Association Mid-West Chapter (Alumni

Combination of National Chung-Hsing University in Taichung, Taiwan,

and National Taipei University in Taipei, Taiwan), AA Investment II

LLC, and Executive Building Corporation. He served as president for:

Taiwanese CPA Association of North America, Taiwanese American

Chamber of Commerce of Greater Chicago.

Lin also contributes to helping communities and people.

of Companies, Inc. is one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate

and finance groups, representing more than 45 years of expertise and

integrity in the industry. Inland received the Better Business Bureau’s

Torch Award for marketplace ethics in 2009 and 2014.

Lynch graduated from Illinois State in 1980 with a Bachelor of

Science degree in accountancy. She went to work for Peat Marwick

Mitchell & Co (currently KPMG LLP) as an auditor for nine years, and

then joined Inland in 1989. She has held various accounting positions at

Inland, eventually becoming CFO in 2011, where she is responsible for

all of the finance and accounting activities for multiple Inland entities.

In 2012, she was the first woman and non-founding principal appointed

to the board of directors of The Inland Group, Inc.

As a strong believer in the benefits of mentoring, Lynch was a found-

ing member of the Women’s’ Initiative Network at Inland, a program

offering career education and advice for employees, and is an active

mentor for several women in the Inland organization.

Lynch is a certified public accountant, a member of the American

Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society,

and is also registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority

as a financial operations principal.

She and her husband divide their time between their home in

Wheaton, Illinois, and their farm in southwestern Wisconsin.

Joseph E. McNeely ’86 President and Chief Executive Officer, FreightCar America, Inc.

Joseph McNeely is a successful leader with

comprehensive rail industry experience and a

diverse business background with a track re-

cord of driving value in manufacturing, leasing,

and distribution industries. He has significant

rail, mergers, acquisitions, and international

experience.

McNeely began his career with Arthur Andersen, LLP and was

a senior manager on numerous attest and consulting engagements.

He went on to hold positions at GATX Corporation, including vice

president of finance for GATX Rail, as well as vice president sales and

marketing at Mitsui Rail Capital. He was the chief financial officer at

FreightCar America, Inc. from 2010 to 2013 when he assumed the role

of president and chief executive officer.

He currently serves on the American Association of Railroads

Associate Advisory Board and the Illinois State University College of

Business Advisory Board, is a member of the Railway Supply Institute

Board of Directors, and president of the RSI American Railway Car

Institute Committee.

McNeely is a graduate of Illinois State University (B.S. Accounting

1986), Notre Dame (MBA 2007) and is a CPA.

Greg Morris, ’94 Senior Vice President, Archer Daniels Midland

Greg Morris is senior vice president and president

of Archer Daniel Midland’s (ADM) Oilseeds

processing business unit and an officer of the

corporation. In that role, Morris has responsibility

for all commercial activity, operations, and pro-

duction for the company’s oilseeds business.

Previously, Morris led the launch of the company’s WILD Flavors

and Specialty Ingredients (WFSI) business unit, which includes ADM’s

specialty ingredients businesses, as well as the company’s WILD

Flavors business, and ADM’s portfolio of dried fruits, seeds, legumes,

and ancient grains.

Morris joined ADM in 1995 and has held several senior-level mer-

chandising and management positions across three of the company’s

four business units. Prior to leading the launch of WFSI, he served as

ADM’s president, North American Oilseeds Processing. In that role,

he oversaw more than two dozen crushing plants, Southern Cellulose

Products, Inc., and the company’s Foods & Wellness group.

Morris serves on the board of directors of Stratas Foods, LLC and

is a member of Illinois State University’s Finance Advisory Board. He

holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Illinois State University and

an MBA from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Connie Fako Shoemake, ’77

Connie Fako Shoemake is a business and tech-

nology leader specializing in strategy, manage-

ment, operations, and business development.

She has significant consulting experience in

technology, business and marketing strategy,

business and innovation process improvement,

and leadership development across industries.

Shoemaker has worked as a Senior Consultant for Moran Technol-

ogy Consulting specializing in developing actions plans to identify and

maximize the benefits of IT systems. Engagements included working

with education, public sector, and commercial clients both globally

and in the U.S. Previous to this role, Shoemaker worked at IBM. Her last

position at IBM was vice president for Global Client Centers. In this role

she provided thought leadership and direction to IBM’s global network

of client centers, enhancing the capabilities of the centers to provide

outstanding client experience, drive incremental sales, and enable

sales teams and partners to showcase IBM’s solutions and technology

capabilities.

Shoemaker has successfully held multiple executive and manage-

ment positions in sales, marketing, strategy, transformation, project

management, business partner development, acquisitions, and techni-

cal support. Shoemaker joined IBM as a software sales engineer in 1981.

Shoemaker is currently an advisor and board member for Illinois

State University College of Business school and National Children’s

Center (NCC) in Washington DC. Shoemaker is actively involved on

the board for Immanuel Lutheran School. She is a former board mem-

ber of the Illinois Technology Association and the Chicago Mayor’s

Council on Technology. Shoemaker has been active in professional

organizations, including Women in Technology and the Chicago

Executive’s Club.

Shoemaker has been recognized by several organizations for her

interest and passion in leadership, mentoring, and technology. In

2003, she was recognized by I-Street Magazine as one of the “Top 25

Technology Women in Chicago” and in May 2008 was recognized as

a national business leader by the Women in Technology International

Organization for her executive leadership and mentoring excellence.

In February 2009, Shoemaker was honored as an Outstanding Alumna

at Illinois State University. This fall Shoemaker was selected to partici-

pate in the Incubatoredu program designed to get high school students

excited about becoming entrepreneurs by creating and fully developing

their own product or service.

Shoemaker and her husband reside in Palatine, Illinois, where they

are active in the local community. They have four grown children.

Shoemaker’s hobbies include mentoring, reading, traveling, and enter-

taining.

For the first time ever, Business Week is partnering with Women in Business, an RSO within the College of Business, to put

on a conference geared toward women. This event is open to all students, and we strongly encourage females to participate.

The event will include brief mentoring sessions held at Hyatt Place where students will get to hear distinguished women

share their professional experiences and discuss topics concerning gender dynamics in the workplace, as well as current

trends women are facing in the professional world. After the morning mentoring sessions, there will be lunch and networking

followed by a keynote address held at the Normal Theater in Uptown Normal.

Pre-registration is encouraged for the INSPIRE event, as seats are limited and will be given first to those who have pre-

registered. Proof of attendance for students will be provided at the doors after the dinner.

Robin Everhart Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, Cintas Corporation

In 2014, Robin Everhart was appointed

to the role of senior vice president and

chief diversity officer for Cintas Cor-

poration, a $4.55 billion dollar business

services company, headquartered in

Cincinnati, Ohio. In her role, Everhart

is responsible for increasing the company’s diversity among

employee-partners and maintaining an inclusive workplace

where each individual can fully contribute to the company’s

collective success. She also has oversight of all talent acqui-

sition for Cintas with a concentrated focus on the recruiting,

hiring, retention, and development of management trainees

and the Accelerated Leadership Program, both pipelines of

future leadership for Cintas.

In 2012, Everhart was appointed as group vice president of

the North Central Region of Cintas’ First Aid and Safety Di-

vision. While in that role, Everhart was responsible for max-

imizing the region’s growth and profitability while leading

and managing all operational functions in an organization of

approximately 300 people who produced over $50 million in

revenue for the company.

Everhart joined Cintas in 2005 and served as chief com-

pliance officer and vice president of Government Affairs and

Corporate Communications. Her responsibilities included

the design, implementation and company-wide oversight

of legal and ethical compliance issues as well as using the

disciplines of communications and government affairs to

drive Cintas’ agenda, internally and externally, in an effort to

protect and enhance the company’s reputation.

A native of Connecticut, Everhart earned her BA from

the University of Georgia and spent several years prior to

joining Cintas building and maintaining comprehensive

compliance programs for Fortune 500 companies including:

The Home Depot and Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. Now residing

in Cincinnati, Everhart is a graduate of the Greater Cincin-

nati Chamber of Commerce WE Lead Class II and serves

on the Cintas Executive Committee, the Cintas Executive

Safety Council, the Cintas Executive Diversity Committee,

and the Cintas Talent Council Committee. She has served as

an executive speaker at Miami University, the University of

Florida, and various compliance and diversity conferences

and symposiums. Everhart is a former board and/or advisory

board member of St. Aloysius Orphanage Board of Directors,

Miami University Center for Excellence Advisory Board,

Xavier University Ethics Advisory Board, and Women’s Food

Service Forum Advisory Board. Everhart is a member of

Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics.

In 2009, Everhart was selected as one of Cincinnati’s One

Hundred Wise Women. In 2011, she was recognized as both

a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement and one of Ohio’s

Most Powerful and Influential Women by the National Diver-

sity Council. In 2012, Venue Magazine presented her with

the Civic Leadership Award.

When not working or lending her services to the commu-

nity, Everhart enjoys spending time with her husband and

their three wonderful daughters.

MENTOR PROGRAMThe Business Week Mentor Program helps younger students learn the necessary professional skills to take full advantage of

Business Week. Mentors serve as role models who:• Reinforce the importance of active participation in registered student organizations;

• Teach proper business professional attire, etiquette, interaction, and networking;

• Create dialogue about courses, internships, and career preparation essentials; and

• Provide service-leadership opportunities

Since its formation in 2011, the Mentor Program has increased in prestige and design. Mentors are selected based on

proven academic success and extracurricular involvement, coupled with recommendations from College of Business faculty.

These mentors are dedicated to providing their assigned mentee with the best possible Business Week experience.

Mentor/mentee pairs attend a training session led by State Farm employees Eric Hoss ’87, MBA ’90, and Tim Pantaleone

’07, followed by a formal induction ceremony. In addition, the pairs continue getting to know each other by attending a series

of pre-Business Week events designed and implemented by the Mentor Program team. To conclude their participation in the

program, they attend Business Week together and make use of the skills developed during their mentorship.

JOIN THE BUSINESS WEEK TEAMIf you’re serious about building real-world skills, making valuable contacts with alumni and industry partners, and are ready

to create amazing opportunities for your peers, think Business Week!

The Business Week Team students are an elite group selected by an application and interviewing process in the spring.

Members work in direct partnership with the College of Business dean’s office. Members spend the fall semester brainstorm-

ing and organizing a powerful week of interactive events designed to help students build essential soft skills and professional

understandings. A small team also manages the Business Week Mentor Program, where members promote individual and

registered student organization involvement, handle registration, run all Business Week events, and analyze the outcomes.
