Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, this franchise represents the first of its kind to open in the Midwest.

"Were not your typical pepperoni/cheese pizza joint," says Mike Sosman, head chef and manager at Brixx Wood Fired Pizza. "We specialize in gourmet pizzas, pastas, salads and sandwiches using fresh ingredients, and our focaccia and pizza doughs are homemade. The wood flavored oven gives off a smoked aroma that is light, not overpowering, and yet makes us unique."

Come taste the bruschetta tomato appetizer made with homemade mozzarella cheese as you sip on a martini or cocktail. Choose from 24 local craft beers or 14 wines by the glass to complement your favorite wood fired pizza like the buffalo

chicken or spicy shrimp. Whether youre in the mood for a pasta dish such as the Heavenly Chicken Bacon Alfredo or the lighter fare of a fresh salad or wrap, you will find nothing other than fresh food with attention to detail.

If youre craving something not seen on the menu, then the chef will personally come by and visit your table to hear your wishes and prepare your meal according to your preferences.

"You can get pampered by the chef without even knowing who he is," says Mike. "Our restaurant is distinctive in that we are sensitive to people with allergies and those who request vegan and/or gluten free menu items."

In fact, gluten free pizzas are prepared on separate surfaces from those containing wheat. The gluten free crust contains rice and quinoa.

NEW BRIXX WOOD FIRED PIZZA OPENS IN FISHERS

8 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / AUGUST 2015 / atFishers.com

You may have seen people dining alfresco on the quaint patio facing the chic Liberty Plaza fountain. Dean Mosier is a Fishers resident who competed alongside Andy on the Ninja Warriors July 6 episode. The two were chosen from 50,000 entries to compete in a series of challenging obstacles over water.

Andy teaches stage craft at FHS, instructing students to build scenery for the schools theater and musical productions. So it was nothing for Andy and his neighbor Dave Steenburg to build a 14-foot tall warped wall obstacle in his driveway for training.

Andy says his family has been watching the show since it began, and they always wanted their dad to compete. But when a series of health problems seem to slow Andy down over the past few years, he feared his kids would

no longer see him as a possible contender, so thats when he decided to do it!

It was a lot of fun, and I hope my kids see that you can overcome your obstacles and just keep moving forward, says Andy.

Andy is an eight year veteran of the Indiana National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1998 at the end of his term of service.

The show did not air Andys final attempt on the July 6 episode where Andy says he made it to the second obstacle, then slipped through ropes and into the pool of water below.

It was a great experience, and just stepping up onto that platform was a thrill for me! says Andy.

Dean, a digital artist with an Indianapolis-based ad agency called The Basement, used his one time Navy SEAL training for the competition. On the July 6 episode, viewers watched as Dean made it to the fourth obstacle where he finished putting all the

pegs in the holes, then fell back into the water below.

Dean says he may try out again for the show, and Andy already has his sights set on the Vegas finals next year.

Good luck to our neighbors, Andy and Dean!

TWO AREA RESIDENTS COMPETE ON NATIONAL REALITY SHOW

FISHERS RESIDENT ON JEOPARDY!

Andy and Dean beside their homemade "Warped Wall" practice obstacle.

Writer / Pat Carlini

A Fishers resident didnt make it to the final round of Jeopardy but did win some big bucks on the game show earlier this summer!

I was just glad to be a part of it all, says Sawyer. Its a fun game, and I really enjoyed it.

Sawyer Morgan, 22, won the competition July 7 on Jeopardy and pocketed $11,590.

Morgan graduated from Purdue University in May with a degree in chemical

engineering and will be attending the University of Washington this fall to work on his doctorate in chemical engineering.

He says he passed Jeopardys online test last January and was invited to Chicago in February for an interview and more tests.

Morgan says he had some great prep work by being a part of WTHRs Brain Game in 2010 where he competed with Hamilton Southeastern Schools.

His final appearance on Jeopardy was Wednesday, July 15. Congratulations to Sawyer!

10 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / AUGUST 2015 / atFishers.com10 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / AUGUST 2015 / atFishers.com

Meet the New Fishers Deputy Mayor

LEAH MCGRATH

10 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / AUGUST 2015 / atFishers.com atFishers.com / AUGUST 2015 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / 11atFishers.com / AUGUST 2015 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / 11

Writer / Janet C. Back in 1872, it was called "Fishers Switch" when Salathiel Fishers distributed his land into lots within the town. Then in 1891, the land was referred to as Fishers Train Station and declared a legal corporation. Later in 1893, it became "Fishers Switch" (dropping the apostrophe), and finally in 1908, it was named just plain "Fishers." Once a small town, Fishers is now a prospering city and far from ordinary.

Since December 22, 2014, under the direction of Mayor Scott Fadness, Fishers has undergone significant transformations. He and his team have focused on encouraging business growth, creating quality jobs and redeveloping a new and robust downtown area while maintaining a safe environment with which Fishers citizens are accustomed. So far, in less than six months, theyve already accomplished many goals including:

q Collaborating with stakeholders to fix the school funding formula

w Providing a seamless transition from a town to a city with no differences in city services

e Planning for the expansion of Launch Fishers (launchfishers.com) to a new building while forging a partnership with Ball State.

In his orchestration of sheer success, Fadness manages to surround himself with key colleagues.

For instance, Leah McGrath has recently accepted a position as Deputy Mayor. She presents a well-rounded professional

background with expertise in marketing research, public relations and governmental affairs. She is eager to share her experience and begin her new role in helping to plan, contrive and navigate for the ultimate destination as we continue our journey as a young emerging community.

"Im like the Chief of Staff helping to make sure all departments are functioning together for areas like public safety, culture, recreation, business and neighborhood development, so that we can all work toward the same vision for our community," says Leah.

Although she officially started her new position on June 29, Leah has already begun preparing her agenda with her...
