Weekly Friday Newsletter Term: 2 Week: 9 27 June 2011  NOTICES Swimming: A reminder to parents that the swimming programme at Sportswide Gym on The Terrace continues this week on Thursday afternoon. Children need togs, towel, goggles and swimming cap  in a plastic bag. If would be helpful if the younger children did not wear jeans or lace-up shoes. Track pants and velcro trainers are much quicker for changing! Gifted and Talented Chess Tuition: Next term we are planning a series of weekly chess sessions with a trained Chess Instructor. Ten children will be selected to participate. Parent Helpers urgently needed: Next term we require regular parent helpers from Kowhai and Kauri to support with the walk to and from the Wellington Library every fortnight. If you are able to help, please let the Co Principals know. Black Tie Night: All CTMS children w ill be performing at the Black Tie night on Monday 11 July. We are all practicing very hard f or the event! We are hoping pare nts and children will come dressed in formal clothing. This will also be an opportunity for the community to farewell Murray. Assessment Evening: To date we have only received three replies to our Assessment Evening event. If we have insufficient numbers, the evening, unfortunately, will not be able to go ahead. CTMS Curriculum: This term the staff has been working with a f acilitator from the Min istry of Education developing and shaping our CTMS curriculum to meet our students’ needs, interests, location and their place in the wider world. This has been an exciting process which will eventually lead us towards a fully integrated inquiry- based learning approach which fully integrates the intent and philosophy of the NZ Curriculum. We are looking forward to building on these developments with the new teaching team next term. Wellington College Open Day: Saturday 2 July from 10.30am Vector Orchestra: On Monday Kahikatea and Kowhai will be attending the Vector Orchestra performance at the Michael Fowler Centre from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Kowhai will eat their lunch in Civic Centre and will go from the library to the orchestra event. They will meet Kahikatea at the Michael Fowler Centre. Saints Basketball:Thank you to New World Railway Station for sponsoring our school to attend the basketball tonight and enabling us t o raise $500.00 for sports equipment.
