Pastoral Council Corner

June Meeting

Our monthly meeting was held on Monday 6/1/2015. We opened with the World Meeting of Families Prayer. The May minutes were then approved.

* Karen Farley, representing the Finance

Council, gave us an update on where the parish stands financially. We remain in good shape and the construction work has begun in the St. Augustine Annex for Wolf Performing Arts Center. As part of best practices, the parish currently is undergoing an audit. The Finance Council will review the results at its August meeting.

* We reflected on the June passage from the

Augustinian Magazine titled Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles, written by Father Robert J. Guessetto, O.S.A., and had a lively discussion about the two great saints and their relationships with Christ and with each other.

* Maria Luby, the parish’s new Director of

Family Life and Youth Ministry, joined us and presented an initial, yet extremely thoughtful, five year plan for Youth Ministry. Maria has great vision and enthusiasm and we are lucky to have her on our team.

We then discussed our parish preparation for the upcoming World Meeting of Families and Papal Visit in September. Anne Murphy and Ellen DeCarlo shared with us lots of information regarding a new pilot program called Year of Encounter with Pope Francis.

It will be implemented over this summer. * We closed with the prayer, Prayer for

Generosity, provided by John Braithwaite, outgoing Vice-Chair, who was warmly thanked by Fr. Joe and the Council for his dedication & service.

* The next meeting will be the Joint Councils &

Parish Staff Gathering, scheduled to kick-off the new term on Monday, September 14

th at

6pm in the Rosemont Auditorium.

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN)

We will be hosting two homeless families in the Parish Center the week of June 21st. IHN is a local non-profit that brings together diverse religious groups to help end homelessness. UPDATE ON THE WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES

AND TWO WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

September 21-27 - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania The world Meeting of Families will take place on September 21-27 and will be highlighted by a visit from Pope Francis. More than two million people are expected to descend upon the region to take part in the weeks’ activities, particularly the Papal Mass scheduled for Sunday, September 27th. Interest in the World Meeting of Families is extremely high with many expressing a desire to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Volunteer through Villanova University There will be a limited number of volunteer spots available for members of the Villanova community (age 18+) to serve during the Festival of Families planned for Saturday, September 26, on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Villanova volunteers will be able to serve together as a group but specific volunteer roles and time committed have not yet been determined. Those interested in this service opportunity should fill out the Villanova Volunteer Registration Form. Please note that there will be an additional, required volunteer registration process administered by the World Meeting of Families that includes a background check. This group of Villanova volunteers will be a small part of the approximately 10,000 that will be engaged to support the World Meeting of Families. It is expected that spots will fill quickly and demand will exceed available opportunities. Additional volunteer outreach may occur through other communities, such as parishes, companies and schools. To serve with fellow Villanovans, both steps of the registration process must be completed. Registration is a must. Go to http://www.1.villanova.edu/villanova/president/worldmeetingoffamilies.html go to Villanova’s website: www.villanova.edu, click “ABOUT” and scroll to Leadership and Offices, click Office Volunteer through the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Volunteer through the Archdiocese Volunteer through the Archdiocese just opened the World Meeting of Families Volunteer Registration Portal. Go to www.worldmeeting2015.org, click on Volunteer and enter your information and you will be directed to Verified Volunteers for a background check. After your background check is completed, usually within 48 hours, you will receive an email inviting you BACK to sign up for the events. You will have the opportunity to donate the cost of your background check to The World Meeting of Families. Our Volunteer Support Team is ready to provide help at [email protected]. Thank you for dedicating your valuable time and talents during the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia!

SHARE THE

HARVEST

Our parish will be helping to feed people in need this summer by providing fresh produce to the food pantry at ElderNet in Bryn Mawr. Whether you love to garden, or just have a sunny spot in your yard, please consider growing a couple extra plants this spring to contribute to this worthy cause — (or you could purchase a few extra fruits or vegetables when you grocery shop). What better way to set a Christian example for your children or grandchildren than by sharing food with those less fortunate. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of the parish center, Monday thru Wednesday, or in the back of the Rosemont Chapel after the 5:00pm Mass on Saturdays. Share the Harvest Ministry will begin collecting your home grown or purchased vegetables and fruit in mid-June and go until mid-September. If you have any questions or can help with delivery this summer, contact Parish Coordinator, Barb Gollin at 610-688-4168 or [email protected].

DO YOU KNOW YOUR

TRIBUNAL?

The Tribunal is a group of specially qualified Catholics whose responsibility is to come to the help of people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. One is the unbreakableness of the bond of marriage. This is God’s law. It cannot be broken by human intervention. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Was this a true marriage? Even though a Catholic marriage was celebrated, was there perhaps some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved? The annulment procedure addresses this problem. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please telephone the Tribunal Office.

THE TRIBUNAL 222 North 17th Street

Philadelphia, PA 19103 Telephone: 215-587-3750

ELECTRONIC STEWARDSHIP Why give electronically? The people who give find this a consistent and convenient method of donating to the church. Is there a minimum amount that I have to give? No, there is no minimum amount. Are electronic contributions risky? No. It is safer than writing a check. All electronic transactions are governed by strict rules. No one can deduct money from your account automatically unless you specifically authorize it. What do I do with my weekly envelopes? Continue using, just check the box in the middle of the envelope that says “I have given electronically/monthly/etc.” Who do I contact if I have additional questions or I need to update my information? Please contact Karen Farley at 610-525-4801, ext. 202, or email [email protected].
