Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

This weekend we continue with the readings from Ordi-nary Time. “Ordinary” comes from our use of ordinal num-bers, e.g., first, second, third…eleventh. And we are entering on what has not been ordinary this past Covid

year, mainly opening up our sanctuary to em-brace so many more parishioners. We are installing most of the chairs this week-end along with kneelers. I hope that many of you may join in our work party on Friday and Saturday (June 11-12.) Some sections will allow 100% capacity, others 50%.

We will begin our communion procession lines after a 15 month absence. And there is no more need for registration. If you are fully vaccinated, you may sit with others who are as well. We will still wear masks. I will explain all this and more this weekend.

Thanks for your patience and resilience over the past year. You are the best!

Prayer During Time of Transition Loving God, Your wisdom is beyond our understanding,

and your goodness to us is more than we can imagine.

Surround and fill us with the light of your truth and love during our time of transition.

Let us view this moment of change and renewal

as an invitation to build upon the foundation that your creative power has begun in us.

As we offer our thanks for all we have experienced together as a parish community, help us to look forward with trust to the future you have planned for us.

Empower us to be your Church at all times:

a people united in faith, where all are welcomed and connected by your love.

Give us the courage to carry the torch forward, being open to new possibilities and embracing the new life to come.

As our Good Shepherd,

guide us through this transition to become more fully the community of disciples you call us to be.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Priest: St. Joh the Baptist, All: Pray for us!

The many blessings of SJTB in the words of our parishioners. The spirit of Generosity and Out-reach in our parish community blesses our greater world with heartfelt service and gifts of treas-ure. We are the only parish with a full-time pastoral associate for social outreach and advocacy.

We believe in putting our faith into action. We val-ue:

“Focus on giving back to the community at large and utilizing our God-given gifts.”

“Priority given to outreach and Social Justice. Many opportunities to engage in the parish and wider community in this area, along with education in these topics.”

“It's generosity towards Social Justice issues. Stew-ardship.”

“All the various ministries, especially those that reach out to those in need, either individually or as a group.”

“That St. John is active in Social Justice and making a difference in the community. Also, I am grateful that there are so many stewardship ministries I can take an active part in.”

“The diverse outreach groups that cover Kent and Covington. Literally helping anyone and every-one.”

“The consistent call to outward focus via the many opportunities to be stewards of God's gifts to us.”

“Being a good citizen of the community through out-reach to our neighbors. Love safe parking and other outreach activities. Respect how we invite community to expand and participate in these ef-forts of love for the poor and needy.”

“The care and commitment of the church to the com-munity.”

We are praying for the Holy Spirit to guide this transi-tion and help us fully embrace our unique and vibrant com-munity. We look forward to welcoming our new priest to our family. Together, let us continue to build on our solid foundation of Stewardship, so that we may be a beacon of

Life, Justice, Peace

Share Your Story: If you have ways you care for

creation, let us know! Do you grow your own food?

What We Have Done:

Our sanctuary is quite literally a window to the beautify of God’s

creation. As we gather in the breaking of the bread, we do so sur-

rounded by green trees and blue skies.

What You Can Do: Washing Dishes: If you have

a dishwasher, use it. Hand

washing uses 5 times more

water than an efficient dish-

washer, and 3.5 times more

water than an average dish-

washer. The more dishes you

wash by hand, the more water

you'd waste.

Let Us Pray: “Then God said: Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it. And so it happened: the earth brought forth vegeta-tion: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree that bears fruit with its seed in it. God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:11-12

World Day Against Child Labor: On June 12, the United Nations brings awareness to the issue of child labor and efforts to eliminate it. Did you know that almost one in ten of all children worldwide are in child labor? While the number of children in child labor has declined by 94 million since 2000, the rate of reduction slowed by two-thirds in recent years. Child labor is concentrated primarily in agriculture (71%) - this includes fishing, forestry, livestock herding and aquaculture - 17% in services; and 12% in the industrial sector, including mining. Almost half (48%) of the victims of child labor were aged 5-11; 28% were 12-14 years old; and 24% were 15-17 years old. For more information, visit the UN website on the World Day Against Child Labor.
