Lake Rayburn DrawdownThe siphon to drawdown lake Rayburn has been installed and is flowing. We are currently down about 2 feet and are gaining about 2 inches per day. Because we were late getting started as a result of some unforeseen circumstances, we will leave the lake down until April 1. This will allow lakefront residents additional time to complete dock and seawall projects. In addition, the POA will be making repairs to the boat ramp. (Above: Overflow structure showing the level down about 18 inches. The siphon is in the background.)

Brittany Trout FishingOver 2,400 rainbow trout have been stocked in Lake Brittany this season. Most are 11 – 12 inches in size, however, a few larger fish are available that may go up to 4 pounds. Stocking annually in the first half of each month from November through Aprilr. A common myth is that the trout get fished out before the next stocking. This is untrue. Although they are sometimes hard to catch, trout are always available on Lake Brittany.

February – City Council MeetingsDid you know City Council meetings are open to the public? By following what the City Council is discussing and voting on each month, residents can stay in the know about and be involved in what’s happening in their city. The council is responsible for creating/changing/updating the city’s legislation – its laws. The best way to make a change is to first approach your council members.

Here’s some quick info about how all that works:• The City Council typically meets twice per month for a work

session and a regular meeting. • A work session is when agenda items are discussed and council

members can ask for more information from city staff, if necessary, but no voting can happen. There is no public input session at a work session.

• A regular meeting is when voting happens. There is a public input session at the beginning of the meeting when people can address the council members for three minutes each about anything they wish.

• There are six council members, two from each of three wards in the city. They are elected at large by Bella Vista voters, meaning every voter casts a vote for every council member, regardless of the ward in which the voter lives.

To learn more, get the council members’ contact info, or see the meeting schedule visit: bellavistaar.gov/government/index.php or email questions to [email protected]. REMINDER: City offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 15 for President’s Day. Trash collection will not be delayed.
