The frequent shootings and murders that terrorized Asbury Park neighborhoods in recent years have calmed as police take a more aggressive effort to pa- trolling. Crime “is amazingly lower,” acting Police Chief An- thony Salerno said in a recent phone interview. “We used to have shootings every other day and a homicide every other month.” There have been at least six shooting incidents in As- bury Park and th ree people shot so far in 2015, accord- ing to the city Polic e Departmen t. The most rece nt shooting happened the morning of July 8 when a 23- year-old Asbury Park man was shot at the Donald Ham- mary Basketball Courts. The only murder in Asbury Park this year was the June 16 fatal shooting of T amara Wilson-Seidle on Se- wall and Ridge avenues. Wilson-Seidle’s ex-husband, Neptune police Sgt. Philip Seidle, has been charged with the murd er.     Call it a love letter to Asbury Park: more than twohours of rock n roll from Bruce Springsteen, JoeGrushecky, Eddie Manion and Grusheckys House-rockers in a packed and steamy Wonder Bar on thecitys Ocean Avenue on Saturday.

    It was a surprise appearance by Springsteen, whocame on stage 10 minutes into the Grushecky and Ma-nion bill, and it featured 15 songs with an emphasis onSpringsteens Darkness on the Edge of Town periodalong with nuggets such as Because the Night, PinkCadillac and Light of Day.
