Stilled Lives is an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Karin Preller. As in previous exhibitions, the interaction between painting and photography remains pivotal to Preller’s work. Her paintings reference photographically frozen moments which, by the obvious time expended on their laboured surfaces, uncover layers of nostalgia, amnesia, trauma and loss. The painted surface itself, ambiguously ‘caught between’ painted and photographic layers, is as much the subject matter of Preller’s work as the chosen iconography.

a wider awareness of the work of perception. As one of the founders of the international artists’ network Fluxus, Patterson and cohort challenged the boundaries of visual art, music, and theatre via an anti-commercial and participatory creative practice. The current exhibition pays homage to this moment in order to open up conversations between historical and contemporary practices that -- through intermediality, performativity, and playfulness -- intentionally subvert and refuse a simplistic identity politics.

WE ALL SEE (IN) THE DARK Nthabiseng Mokoena 10h00 - 18h00 | FREE

Art can be a powerful way of seeing things more clearly, but in order to see more clearly, we must focus on the darkness of things, whether it is the darkness in humour, the darkness in our society, the darkness in our imaginations, or the darkness in ourselves. Understanding what is grotesque and what is sinister about ourselves and the world that we experience around is a crucial way of being
