Updates since graduation from SFSU?Since graduating from SFSU, I have completed my Qirst year of graduate school studying Sport Management at San Jose State University. My G.P.A. for my Qirst semester was a 3.67 and I have been able to take some very stimulating classes. At SJSU, I have been involved with Club Sports, Intra-‐murals and other San Jose Programs.
What do you miss about college basketball?I miss being around my teammates and being dedicated to a sport that I love. Also, I miss my coaches working with me and pushing me to be at my best. I really miss game days and the level of preparation and intensity, which is involved along with (shoot around, getting pumped up, etc.) prior to tip off. The competition is difQicult to achieve, as well; there is nothing like playing in front of thousands of people and the energy which it brings.
Best memory of playing basketball at SFSU?My best memory would be all the great relationships created and established in combination of the memories over 4 years. My senior season was one of the best times for me. Receiving the female athlete of the year award and making Qirst team all-‐conference were great moments for me.
What are your plans after SJSU?My goal after receiving my Masters from SJSU is to land a position in athletics at a major university and or do some traveling. I have been in the Bay Area all of my life, therefore, the opportunity to travel would be great!!

Gators Focus on AcademicsVan Sickel Shines in School, Closing in on Record
Angela Van Sickel, who has had an outstanding career as a Lady Gator on the court so far, is taking care of business in the classroom as well. Angela achieved academic excellence for a second consecutive season. As a freshman, Angela earned All-‐CCAA academic honors. As a sophomore, she continued the success from her Qirst year, with a solid sophomore effort both on and off the court. Just recently, she was recognized as one of the premier student/athletes at San Francisco State, placing on the All-‐Academic team, while leading the team in 3 pointers made with 48. That moves her to 4th most made in a season, and into 9th place on the All-‐Time list. Angela ranked #8 in the CCAA conference in treys this past season. In addition, Angela is 66 3-‐pointers away from tying All-‐Time leader Renee Jimenez (131), the current head coach for Monterey Bay. Great Job Angela!!

On the Sideline with SchutteTraining & Protecting Your ACL
Greetings! Women basketball players are already at a disadvantage when it comes to the dreaded ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear. The way our bodies are designed puts us in a sticky situation, which compromises the ACL. According to Jerry A. Lubliner, MD, there are few reasons why women are more susceptible to ACL tears, one being muscular differences. Females tend to have weaker quadriceps and hamstring muscles, which are the major muscle groups that protect the ACL. Second, anatomic differences, women have wider pelvises, which create more stress on the hip to knee angle. Finally, training techniques, with out proper landing instruction and muscle reputation, a habit can be formed of improper landing technique. Although, there are exercises that can help. I have listed a few concepts to consider: 1 - Soft landing, on the balls of your feet, and absorb the shock, hips, knees, and ankles flexed. 2 - No “wobbling” knees, and make sure no knees over toes.
Double leg jump side to side- 20 jumps Double leg jump front to back- 20 jumps
Squat jumps- 20 jumps Box Jumps - 20 jumps
Single leg bounding - 20 jumps each legScissor lunge jumps- 20 jumps
Always take the ACL serious; therefore, before you begin practice utilize the above routine prior to your practice - 10 minutes per day before practice can make a world of difference!! Go Gators!
