Programme Mission and Objective: The Bachelor Degree Programme (Hons.)in Islamic Theology (ITH) is a unique and most popular degree programme of Aliah University. In West Bengal, there is none other than Aliah University which offers Bachelor Degree programme in Islamic Theology either in regular mode or in ODL mode. The main objective of the course is to impart standard course curricula of the relevant subject which is at par to any other conventional universities. The great tradition of Islamic Theology and the recent phenomenal growth in terms of enrolment of this course shows that learners are satisfied with it at the receiving end. B. Relevance of the Programme with HEI’s Mission and Goals: The mission of Aliah University is to spread higher education in the state, especially among the members of the backward and minority communities. The insinuation hopes to provide access to different courses in higher education arena at affordable cost to the students who are in socially and economically disadvantageous situation. This bachelor degree programme in Islamic Theology can be availed by the learner to improve their institutional learning pedagogy and it may open several opportunities in the job market for the incumbent. This particular course/ programme may give an opportunity to gain knowledge in the core and allied areas of religion, ethics and sociology. C. Nature of Prospective Target Group of Learners: Like any other B A programme recognised by UGC, the pass out learners of Fazil equivalent to Higher Secondary (10+2)) level /standard may join this course. This Degree programme is open to all who have passed such level and want to increase his/her knowledge in theology in general and Islamic theology in particular. Learners who have passed in other bachelor degree exam may also opt for the programme. This course is easily accessible to them who have break in their academic carrier and those who are in service. Female learner of remote areas and especially who faced difficulties to continue further education may get enrolled in this course with lots of flexibility that are offered to them. D. Appropriateness of Programme to be Conducted in Open and Distance Learning Mode to Acquire Specific Skills and Competence The greatest advantage of Bachelor Degree Programme (Hons.) in Islamic Theology through ODL system is its flexibility. New learners coming from higher secondary level /Fazil who did not have any chance to take admission in conventional mode can easily attach themselves to such programmes of ODL. This programme, offered in ODL mode can definitely enhance the skill and understanding of religious, ethical, societal and other concerns of the programme. Study material (SIM) and Personal Contact Programmes (PCP’s) would be arranged, prepared and scheduled to extend support to the learner. Usage of online counselling and assignment workshop programme will also be helpful to them. The curricula of the programme are framed in keeping parity with BA courses of other conventional universities.

A. Programme Mission and Objective:

The Bachelor Degree Programme (Hons.)in Islamic Theology (ITH) is a unique and most popular degree programme of Aliah University. In West Bengal, there is

course is to impart standard course curricula of the relevant subject which is at par to any other conventional universities. The great tradition of Islamic Theology

B. Relevance of the Programme with HEI’s Mission and Goals:

Instructional Delivery Mechanisms:

Aliah University would try to combine classroom teaching with Self Learning materials or SLMs along with modern ICT based methods. The university would try

to ensure the learner participation. Following the principle of ODL system most of the instructions are imparted through distance, rather than face-to-face

communication, though at times a blended approach of face to face teaching along with the SLMs are adopted.

Aliah University academic delivery system would comprise of: SLMs that are printed Self Learning materials which are provided to learners at the time of admission

Arrangements would be made so that lectures can be accessed by the students at their convenience

Some part of the Learning Package would also be available online.

Directorate of Distance education, Aliah University would arrange for Counselling Sessions which would be held at the head quarter as well as at the proposed Study Centres.

Paper Wise Mapping of Credit Hours: As per the course structure provided previously

F. Procedure for admissions, curriculum transaction and evaluation

Admission Procedure: At Aliah University, centralised admission process would be conducted through online mode. Admission fees would also be collected

through online payment gateway service and dedicated bank challan to assure transparency and efficiency. There would be no provision for online Admission

Test.

Eligibility: Passed Fazil or equivalent (10+2) exam

Total Course Fee: Rs. 12000/- (Rs. 2000/- per semester) (All inclusive)

Curriculum transaction and Evaluation: Face to face counselling would be arranged. Two components of evaluation: Internal assessment/ home assignment for each paper carry 30% weightage. The final term‐end examination will be held on semester basis and would carry 70% weightage.

Financial Assistance: At present no financial assistance is provided for this course.

Updated Notification for its Learners: University notify its various policy for the programme delivery along with the details of methods and web-based tools to

be adopted in the official website. All notification regarding all the academic activities to be carried out by the University during the academic session is provided

in the official website, learners registered mobile number of the learners and through the proposed Study Centres where the course would be offered. Further,

the University notify all notification, assignment question papers, result and other related information to examination and evaluation through it official website

and registered mobile number of the learners. There would be a dedicated link/website for the Directorate of Distance education, Aliah University.

G. Requirement of the laboratory support and Library Resources:

Laboratory: As the course does not have any practical paper or any component for which laboratory facility is required. Therefore laboratory facility is not

provided.

Library: Aliah University has a state of the art library for the regular courses. It would be made available to the students of ODL mode.

I. Quality assurance mechanism and expected programme outcomes:

Aliah university has constituted the “Centre for Internal Quality Assurance” (CIQA) as per UGC (Open and Distance Learning) Regulations, 2017 to ensure to

deliver high quality programme to its learners. The Centre comprises of members expert in the subject along with stalwarts in the field of Open and Distance

Learning from other universities as well.

The CIQA has the following Objectives and Functions:

It would attempt to systematize the efforts of the University towards academic excellence and towards providing a wide number of students with

the chance of getting proper form of higher education.

It would try to ensure quality service to the learners of the subject through development of original and appropriate Study Learning Material or SLM;

through an integration of modern methods of teaching learning including usage of ICT and credibility of evaluation procedures.

It would attempt to identify the key areas in which the concerned department should maintain quality and improve.

Another important objective of the CIQA is to prepare Program Project Report(PPR) of the programs/courses which are proposed to be launched in

the near future with due approval of competent authority.

The CIQA would submit Annual Quality Assurance Report of the departments of University which run in ODL mode to the statutory bodies and

competent authorities.

The CIQA would take steps towards documentation of the various programmes / activities of the programmes in ODL leading to quality

improvement

The CIQA would make arrangement for feedback responses from students, parents and other stakeholders on quality related institutional processes.

The CIQA would disseminate information on the various quality parameters of the University, especially on the courses run on ODL mode.

The CIQA would take care of the quality of the program with an aim to make learners knowledgeable, proficient and competent enough to secure

good job opportunities as well as take up further research work in the field of social sciences.
