ThankyouforyourinterestinWestminsterCollegeandourTitansoccerteams.Ihopethatyouwillfindthe2013TitanSoccerGuidebeneficialasyoulearnaboutourteam.
Westminstersoccerplayersbenefitfromtheopportunitytocom-peteataregionallevel.Ourteamshavewoneightconferencechampionships(5women’s,3men’s)since2002andmadeeighttripstotheNCAADivisionIIItournamentduringthatspan.Sixteenplayers(9women,7men)haveearned22all-regionselectionssince1998.
Ourregionalsuccessisatestamenttoourchallengingnon-conferenceschedulesthatoftenincludemultipleteamsrankedintheTop10inourregion.
Wedon’tjustrecruitplayerslocally.Manystudent-athletesreal-izethevalueofahigh-levelsoccerprogramandaWestminstereducationandtravelgreatdistancestocontributetooursuc-cess.Thetypeofstudent-athletewerecruitexcelsonthefieldandintheclassroomwithmanyplayersearningrecognitionontheAcademicAll-DistrictandAcademicAll-Americateams.
Ourschoolanditsadministrationhaverecognizedtheimportanceofoursoccerprograms.Sinceaddingourwomen’steamin1998,theyhavemadepositivestridesinimprovingbothourmen’sandwomen’ssoccerfacilitiesincludingnewlockerrooms,anewinternationalsizegrassfield,andafieldwithartificialturfandlightsfornightgames.
WeareproudofoursoccerprogramshereatWestminsterandwechallengemorequalitystudent-athletestohelpcontinueoursuccess.

Men’s Season OutlookHavingcoachedtheWestminsterCollegemen’sandwomen’s
soccerteamsconcurrentlysince2002andthemen’steamsince1998,GirishThakarhaswonacombined301winsandeightconferencechampionships,whilemaking12postseasonappearances.
SinceThakartookoverbothteamstenyearsago,WestminsterhasqualifiedfortheNCAAChampionshipseighttimes,includingthreeforthemen(2002,2004,2008)andfiveforthewomen(2002-05,2007).Inaddition,theeightPresidents’AthleticConference(PAC)titlestheTitanshavecollectedincludesthreeforthemen(2002,2006,2008)andfiveforthewomen(2002-04,2006-07).Thakarwasnamed
PACCoachoftheYearfourtimes,threeforwomen’ssoccer(2002,2005,2006)andoneformen’s(2008).
BothteamswonthePACtitleinthesameyearin2002and2006,withthelatterconsideredThakar’sfinestyearofcoachingasbothteamswontheleaguecrownsasun-derdogsandqualifiedforthepostseasonintheECACDivisionIIISouthChampionships.
Thakarentershis16thseasonwiththemenand12thwiththewomenin2013foracombinedrecordof301-198-41(.595).
Thakar’s15-yearrecordasWestminster’smen’scoachis157-124-18(.555),includ-ingateam-record17-6markin2008aftertheTitanswonthePACtitleandadvancedtothesecondroundoftheNCAAtournament.
ThakartookthereinsoftheWestminsterwomen’sprogramonaninterimbasisin2002,thenwasnamedpermanentheadcoachpriortothe2003season.Duringthepast11seasons,theTitanwomenareacombined144-74-23(.645)withfivePACchampion-shipsandfour-straightNCAAtournamentappearancesfrom2002-05.
PriortocoachingatWestminster,Thakarwastheheadmen’scoachathisalmama-ter,SlipperyRockUniversity,from1993-96,aftergraduatingfromSRUin1991andlaterearningamaster’sdegreefromtheschool.AsaplayeratSlipperyRock,Thakarwasafour-yearstarterwhoearnedall-PSAChonors.

KleinerthasbeencoachingatPACrewSoccerAcademyforthepastthreeyearsandcurrentlycoachestheU16andU17girlsteams.HisteamshavewonJef-fersonCup,BaltimoreMania,OhioNikeChallengeCup,ColumbiaInvitational,USClubRegionals,andhavefinishedasStateCupFinalists.KleinertpossessesaNSCAANationalDiplomaandaCoerverYouthDiploma.
Asaplayer,Kleinertwasafour-yearstarteratGenevaCollege,wheretheGoldenTornadoesrecordedthethird-mostwinsinschoolhistory(53).HegraduatedfromGenevain2011withdegree’sinBusi-nessandSportsManagement.KleinertisoriginallyfromLansdale,Pa.

soccerteamlookstocontinuetomakeapowerfulimpactinthePresidents’AthleticConference(PAC)in2013.TheTitans,whowererankedfourthinthenationformostimprovedin2012,finishedfourthinthePACwitharecordof11-6-2andaconferencerecordof5-2-1.Westminsterhas11returninglettermen,includingninestarters.
All-PAChonoreesseniorforward David Osae,sophomoremidfielder Ethan McCarthy,andsophomoremidfielderStephen McDanielreturnfortheTitansthisyear.
Osae’steam-leadingthreegame-winninggoalstiedforthirdbestinthePAC,whilehis10pointsstoodthirdontheteam.McCarthytiedforfirstontheteamandwasninthinthePACwith17points,whileMcDanielrankedfourthontheteamwith12points.
TheotherreturninglettermenforWestminsterincludeseniorShane Noteboom,juniorsRyan Francis andDan Bishop,andsophomoresAustin Ewers,Marcus Gurgiolo,Matthew Kiernan,Eric Michalski, and Cody Postupac.
Sincetheendoflastseason,theTitanshavelostthreestartingseniorsthatmadeanimpactontheprogram.GoalieAdam Kephart recorded77saves,Josh Cantellawastheleadingscorerwithsevengoals,andZach MeluchhadninecareergoalsinhistimeplayingforWestminster.
AlmostthreequartersoftheteamareunderclassmenandThakerexpectstheunderclassmentostepupandmakeanimmediateimpact.
“Obviously,thestatusofbeingrankedthefourthmostimprovedteaminthenationisgreatforourteam.However,attheendoftheday,wearelookingatwhatisonthefieldandonpaper-themarkofimprovementinplayers,theirattitudeandworkethic,andateamthatplayshardthewholegame,”saidThaker.“Whatweneedtodoismakesurethatweplaystrongallthroughtheseasonbecauseanyonecanbeatanyoneonanygivenday.Ifwecanstepupandplayatahighlevelconsistently,wewillbeingoodshapethisseason.”
“Ourgoalsarealwaysforustomaketheplayoffs,wintheconferencetitle,andcompeteintheNCAAtournament.Theplayerswehaverightnowhavethosedreamsandaspirationsandwewanttopushtowardsthosegoalsduringeveryminuteofplaythisseason.”
