women’sbasketballteamreturnseightletterwinnersfromayearago,includingseniorsGabby Holko,

Hannah Shaffer,andCourtney Zitt.HolkoandShafferarethree-timeletterwinners,whileZittletteredtwice(shedidnotplaylastseasonbecauseofaninjury).

“Wearehopingtheseniorstakeownershipoftheteamthisseason,”saidheadcoachRosanne Scott,whoisenteringher12-thyearatthehelm.“Wearehopingthat,becauseoftheirgameexperience,theysetthetonefortherestoftheplayers.”

Holko,whostartedin16gameslastyear,isthereturningtop-scorer.Sheaveraged9.9pointspergamewhichrankedinthetop-20inthePresidents’AthleticConference(PAC),whilescoringindouble-digitsin14contests.HolkoprovidesadeepthreatfortheTitansasshewassecondontheteamand10thinthePAClastyearwith37madethree-pointers.Her105careerthree-pointfieldgoalscurrentlystandsixthall-timeinschoolhistory.Holkowasalsosecondontheteamwith32steals.

Shafferdished-out2.4assistspergamelastseason,goodforsecondontheteamand12thinthePAC.SheledtheTitandefensewith

47stealswhichstood12thintheconference.Zitt,whoonlyplayedinthreegameslastyear

duetoinjury,lookstobetheleaderinthepaintforWestminster.Zitt,anAll-PAChonoreeasasophomore,wasaveraging9.0pointsand6.3reboundspergamebeforetheinjury.

“WeareobviouslyexcitedtohaveCourtneyback,”Scottsaid.“Sheworkedhardrehabbingtobeabletogetbackoutonthecourtwithherteam.Grandy,HolkoandShafferdidagreatjobsteppinguplastyearaftertheteamexperiencedinjuries.ThisyearweareexpectingthemtotakeonanevenbiggerroleandIknowtheyareupforthechallenge.”

AnotherkeyreturnerisjuniorJenna Grandy whohadabreak-outyearlastandprovidedasparkfortheTitansoffthebench.Grandyaveragedacareer-high6.0pointspergame.Shewasalsothirdontheteamwith29madethree-pointers,whileher39.2three-pointfieldpercentageledtheteamandalsobrokeaschoolrecord.

JuniorsAllison BortsandCourtney KleinandsophomoresAndrea MarshandAmanda Sloanwillmakeapushforplayingtimethisseason.Marshappearedinthemostgamesoutofthefourwith23games,followedbyKleinwhoplayedin17.

FourTitannewcomerswillbeexpectedtostepupthisyearandmakeanimpact.

“Wearegoingtoaskalotoutofouryoungerplayers,”saidScott.“Wearehopingourteammaturesquickly.Itwillbeexcitingtoseewhostepsup.WecannotbethesameteaminNovemberthatwewanttobeinJanuary.Ourgoalistogetbettereveryday.”

Scott,atwo-timePACCoachoftheYear,ownsa11-yearrecordof141-154(.478),includinga71-77record(.480)inPACgames.TheTitansplayedinthePACchampionshipgameinfiveoutofsevenyearsfrom2004-10.

Attheageof24,ScottwastheyoungestcollegiatebasketballcoachinthecountryatanylevelatthetimeshewashiredinApril2002.InhersecondseasonshewasnamedPACCoachofYearafterleadingtheteamtothePACtournamentfinals.

SomeofthebestplayersinprogramhistoryhaveplayedunderScott,includingEmileeAcker-man(2004-08),DesireeSterling(2003-07)andEricaTallo(2001-05),threeofthetopfourscorersinschoolhistory.Ackermanbecametheprogram’sfirstplayertoearnanhonorablementionfortheAll-Americateamaftersherankedthirdinthenationinscoring(23.5pointspergame)in2008andbecametheschool’sall-timeleadingscorerwith1,483points.
