Hannah Shaffer,andCourtney Zitt.HolkoandShafferarethree-timeletterwinners,whileZittletteredtwice(shedidnotplaylastseasonbecauseofaninjury).
“Wearehopingtheseniorstakeownershipoftheteamthisseason,”saidheadcoachRosanne Scott,whoisenteringher12-thyearatthehelm.“Wearehopingthat,becauseoftheirgameexperience,theysetthetonefortherestoftheplayers.”
Holko,whostartedin16gameslastyear,isthereturningtop-scorer.Sheaveraged9.9pointspergamewhichrankedinthetop-20inthePresidents’AthleticConference(PAC),whilescoringindouble-digitsin14contests.HolkoprovidesadeepthreatfortheTitansasshewassecondontheteamand10thinthePAClastyearwith37madethree-pointers.Her105careerthree-pointfieldgoalscurrentlystandsixthall-timeinschoolhistory.Holkowasalsosecondontheteamwith32steals.
Shafferdished-out2.4assistspergamelastseason,goodforsecondontheteamand12thinthePAC.SheledtheTitandefensewith
47stealswhichstood12thintheconference.Zitt,whoonlyplayedinthreegameslastyear
duetoinjury,lookstobetheleaderinthepaintforWestminster.Zitt,anAll-PAChonoreeasasophomore,wasaveraging9.0pointsand6.3reboundspergamebeforetheinjury.
“WeareobviouslyexcitedtohaveCourtneyback,”Scottsaid.“Sheworkedhardrehabbingtobeabletogetbackoutonthecourtwithherteam.Grandy,HolkoandShafferdidagreatjobsteppinguplastyearaftertheteamexperiencedinjuries.ThisyearweareexpectingthemtotakeonanevenbiggerroleandIknowtheyareupforthechallenge.”
AnotherkeyreturnerisjuniorJenna Grandy whohadabreak-outyearlastandprovidedasparkfortheTitansoffthebench.Grandyaveragedacareer-high6.0pointspergame.Shewasalsothirdontheteamwith29madethree-pointers,whileher39.2three-pointfieldpercentageledtheteamandalsobrokeaschoolrecord.
JuniorsAllison BortsandCourtney KleinandsophomoresAndrea MarshandAmanda Sloanwillmakeapushforplayingtimethisseason.Marshappearedinthemostgamesoutofthefourwith23games,followedbyKleinwhoplayedin17.
FourTitannewcomerswillbeexpectedtostepupthisyearandmakeanimpact.
“Wearegoingtoaskalotoutofouryoungerplayers,”saidScott.“Wearehopingourteammaturesquickly.Itwillbeexcitingtoseewhostepsup.WecannotbethesameteaminNovemberthatwewanttobeinJanuary.Ourgoalistogetbettereveryday.”

atraditionofwinning.AlthoughtheCollegewasfoundedin1852,varsityathleticsatWestminsterdidnotbecomeprevalentuntil1884.Beginningin1926,thesportsteamsatWestminsterbecameknownasthe“Titans,”afterasportswriterforthestudentnews-paper,The Holcad,nicknamedtheresurgentbasketballteamthe“ToweringTitans”becauseofyounger,tallermenthatmadeupthestartinglineup.TheathleticsprogramatWestminsterbecamebestknownforthesuccessofitsfootballandmen’sbasketballteams.TheTitanfootballteamwonsixNAIANationalChampionshipsfrom1970-94and71%(398-157-10)ofitsgamessince1952.Themen’sbasketballteam,honoredbytheAssociated Pressasthenation’stopsmallcollegeteamin1962,wastheall-timewinningestNAIAteambeforeWestmin-sterjoinedtheNCAAin1998.

Towering Titan OrganizationProvidingsupportforWestminster’sathleticprogramsisthe
Towering Titan Organization (TTO),formedin1976aroundacoreofdevoted,loyalandintenselyinterestedalumni,parentsandfriends.Theorganizationpurposesitselftohelpmaintain,improveandendowWestminsterCollege’sathleticprograms.
Over$3millioningiftshavebeencontributedtotheTower-ingTitanFundsinceitsinception.
Theannualincomeisdistributedinthismanner:90percentofalldonationsgodirectlytothesport(s)chosen(donationscanbedesignatedtoaspecificsportformenorwomen),with10percentgoingtowardstheoperationandpromotionofthefund.All20varsitysportsformenandwomenbenefitfromthefund.
