    SATURDAYS GAME : The Washington State University ootball team (4-7, 2-6 Pac-12) concludes its 2011 season when it travels to Seattle to ace

    the Washington Huskies (6-5, 4-4) in the Apple Cup, Saturday, Nov. 26 atCenturyLink Field. Gametime is set or 4:30 p.m. and will be televised by Versus. Thegame can also be heard across the IMG College Sports Radio Network.

    WASHINGTON STATE vs. WASHINGTON - THE SERIES : Dating back to the frstmeeting between the Huskies and Cougars in 1900, a 5-5 tie in Seattle, Washingtonleads the 103-game series by a 66-31-6 margin. From 1934-61 the winner o thecross-state rivalry was awarded the Governors Trophy. In 1962 the Apple Cup trophywas instituted, and Washington holds a 34-14 record in Apple Cup games since then.Last season the Huskies posted a 35-28 victory in Pullman, needing a touchdownpass in the fnal minute or the win. WSU has won our o the last seven AppleCups, however, and have won two o the last three meetings when played in Seattle.Washington holds a 37-15-5 advantage when playing in Seattle.

    THE COUGAR FOOTBALL PROJECT UNDERWAY : The WSU Board o Regents gaveapproval or an $80 million project that will add premium seating and a new pressbox on the south side o Martin Stadium. The regents approval will allow construc-

    tion to begin this week. The renovation has the premium seating on the south sideo the stadium along with a new, state-o -the-art press box. The project will be pri-vately unded through donations, premium seating revenue and increased revenue

    rom the recently complete Pac-12 television contract, which goes into e ect be-ginning with the 2012-13 academic year. When ully occupied, the club seats, logeboxes and luxury suites are expected to bring in more than $3 million annually innet revenues at current projected price levels.

    COUGARS AT HOME AT CENTURYLINK FIELD : Though it will be the visiting teamthis weekend, WSU is no stranger to CenturyLink Field. Since the start o the 2002season, the Cougars have played nine games at the home o the Seahawks, going5-4 in the contests. Earlier this season WSU was the home team against OregonState in The Seattle Game and will now be the visiting team against Washington. Thelast time the Cougars played in the same stadium as both the home and road teamwas 1999, when they were technically the visiting team at Martin Stadium whenIdaho played its home games in Pullman.

    HALLIDAY OUT FOR APPLE CUP : Washington State University redshirt reshmanquarterback Connor Halliday was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital or observa-tion and imaging ollowing Saturdays game against Utah. According to WSU Assis-tant Athletic Director or Athletic Training Services Bill Drake, Halliday, who receiveda number o hard hits throughout the contest and played through each o them,approached the WSU medical sta with signifcant pain ollowing the game. He wasimmediately taken to the hospital and ollowing consultation with the WSU medicalsta , specialists were brought in and it was determined Halliday su ered a lacerated

    liver.

    WSU LANDS NINE ON ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS : WSU placed nine student-athleteson the Pac-12 All-Academic Football teams, including frst-team selections JaredKarstetter and Kyle McCartney. Both Karstetter and McCartney were repeat frst-team picks rom last season. Additionally, WSU had one second-team selection andsix honorable mention picks. Junior Andrei Lintz was a second-team pick or thesecond-straight season and senior Dan Wagner, junior Skylar Stormo, sophomoresJohn Fullington and Andrew Furney, along with reshmen Aaron Dunn and KristoWilliams were named honorable mention.

    WILSON EXTENDS SINGLE-SEASON RECORD : Sophomore wide receiverMarquess Wilson had his second game o the season with more than 200 yardsreceiving against Arizona State (8 catches, 223 yards, 3 touchdowns) and in doingso eclipsed Brandon Gibson (1,180 yards in 2007) as the schools all-time single-season receiving leader. Through 11 games Wilson has 1,280 yards on 75 catcheswhile averaging 116.4 yards per game. Those numbers put him sixth nationally inreceiving yards per game (frst in the Pac-12), while he is tied or 17th in catches.His 75 receptions surpassed WSUs previous single-season leader Nakoa McElrath(2001) by three. Against ASU Wilson became the second Cougar with multiple1,000-yard season, joining current Jacksonville Jaguar receiver Jason Hill, who had1,007 and 1,097 receiving yards in 2004 and 2005.     WILSON CLIMBING CAREER CHARTS : Almost two seasons into his WSU career,sophomore Marquess Wilson is leaving his mark on the Cougar record books. In just23 games, Wilson has totaled 130 receptions or 2,286 yards and 16 touchdowns.His receptions total currently rank 9th, pushing his position coach Mike Levenseller(121) out o the top 10. His yardage total is f th-best and his 16 career touchdownreceptions are tied or eighth.

    GLEASON GIVEN GAME BALL: Former Cougar great Steve Gleason was honoredas an honorary captain during WSUs game against Arizona State. Gleason playedat WSU rom 1996-99, ending his career with 282 total tackles, ninth-most in schoolhistory, be ore an eight-year career in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints. Glea-son also played baseball at WSU and as a senior was named the WSUs outstand-ing student-athlete. Earlier this all Gleason revealed he has been diagnosed withALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrigs disease. Following the win against the SunDevils, the Cougar coaches awarded the game ball to Gleason, who met with theteam prior to the game.

As a National Scholar-Athlete, Karstetter will receive an $18,000postgraduate scholarship. He is also a fnalist or the nations top scholar-athlete award, the William V. Campbell Trophy. I he isselected as the Campbell recipient, the scholarship will grow to $25,000. Ho man-Ellis registered agame-high 14 tackles in the Cougars 31-27 comeback victory at Colorado. His 14 tackles, which included 12 solo tackles and twosacks, were a WSU season-high and one shy o his career-best 15 against Oregon State in 2009.     ARIZONA STATE HIGHLIGHTS: Marquess Wilson became just the second Cougar receiver in school history with multiple 1,000-yard seasons (joining Jason

    Hill)...he now has 1,197 receiving yards and set the single-season record or receiving yards passing Brandon Gibson who had1,180 yards in 2007.

    Wilson caught three touchdown passes on the game, becoming the frst to do so since Chris Jordan caught three against Idahoin 2006.

    Wilson went over 200 yards receiving (223) or the second time in his career...his career high is 236 accomplished at San DiegoState this season.

    Halliday threw or a reshman record 494 yards...he passed Drew Bledsoes record o 385 set at Cali ornia in 1990. Halliday recorded WSUs 13th 400-plus yard passing game, his 494 yards are the second-most all-time in a single game and

    most in con erence history by a reshman. Isiah Barton had a career-high 155 yards receiving. Deone Bucannon had a season-high 13 tackles, all solo tackles. Casey Locker recorded a career-high 10 total tackles and a career-high nine solo tackles.

    Head Coach Paul WulffPaul Wul enters his ourth season on the Cougar sideline a ter being named Washingtons States 31st head coach, Dec.10, 2007. With his appointment Wul became the frst WSU ootball letterwinner and graduate to lead the Cougars sincePhil Sarboe served as head coach rom 1945-4 9.

    With three ull recruiting clas ses under his belt heading into the 2011 campaign, Wul has the Cougars on the rise ollowingthree years o rebuilding a program rom the ground up. The end o 2010 saw a glimpse o what is coming as WSU earnedits frst Pacifc-10 Con erence road win under Wul , a 31-14 victory at Oregon State. The ollowing week WSU droppeda heartbreaker in the Apple Cup, alling to Washington 35-28. The back-to-back games with 28-plus points showed theo ense has come miles rom even the 2009 season.

    A 1990 graduate o WSU and a our-year letterwinner, Wul s frst season leading the Cougars proved di fcult as thetransition to a new head coach combined with numerous injuries resulted in a 2-11 record. WSUs lone con erence wincame in dramatic ashion as the Cougars needed a last-second feld goal in regulation, and again in double overtime, tode eat Washington 16-13 in the Apple Cup.

    Wul s second season was once again marred by injuries, yet progress was being made as 13 reshmen and 23 playersoverall made their frst-collegiate starts. The bright spot o the year came in week three as WSU ought back rom a

    13-point ourth-quarter defcit to de eat SMU in overtime, 30-27.

    Prior to Washington State, Wul spent the previous 15 seasons at Eastern Washington University, the fnal eight as head coach. There he amasseda record o 53-40 while his current 11-year head coaching record stands at 58-72. During his eight-year head coaching tenure Wul was namedBig Sky Con erence Coach o the Year three times (2001, 2004, 2005) and led the Eagles into the Football Championship Subdivision playo s threetimes in his fnal our seasons.

    In 2007 he guided the Eagles to a 9-4 mark, including a quarterfnal appearance at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playo s, alling totwo-time de ending champion Appalachian State. It marked the seventh time in his eight years at Eastern that his teams posted winning records.

    Wul began his coaching career at EWU in 1993 as a volunteer assistant working with the o ensive line. He was named o ensive line/strengthcoach the ollowing season and spent our years in the position be ore being promoted to o ensive coordinator/o ensive line/strength coach in1998. Following two seasons as the teams o ensive coordinator, Wul was named head coach prior to the 2000 season. He guided the Eagles tosix-straight winning seasons and seven overall during his eight-year tenure.

    Wul s 2005 team was loaded with experience, talent and leadership, eaturing a group o seniors that included the Big Skys O ensive andDe ensive MVPs (Erik Meyer and Joey Cwik), and eatured a trio o All-Americans (Meyer, Eric Kimble and Matt Al red). Meyer would go on to winthe Walter Payton Award as the best ootball player in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Eagles fnished 7-5 and won the Big Sky titlewith a 5-2 record be ore losing to eventual national runner-up Northern Iowa in the frst round o the playo s.

    In 2004, Wul s squad fnished 9-4 and advanced to the quarterfnals o the playo s. The crowning glory came when the Eagles knocked o No.1-ranked and top-seeded Southern Illinois in the frst round.

    Statistically, the 2004 and 2005 teams were nearly identical with each fnishing the year ranked ourth in FCS in total o ense. In 2005 the Eaglesaveraged 477.8 yards per game, and were 14th in scoring (35.0). A year earlier the Eagles averaged 475.5 yards and 37.5 points per game to ranksixth.

    Wul coached 21 players to 54 Football Championship Subdivision ( ormerly Division I-AA) All-America honors in his frst seven years at the helm

    o the EWU program, and two more o his players were named to the Sports Networks 2007 FCS All-America team at the conclusion o last year.O the 21 players to earn All-America recognition, 15 have been o ensive lineman. Additionally, Wul mentored 15 players who have earned 18total CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII honors and a total o 131 All-Big Sky Con erence Academic team members. As a student-athlete and our-year starter at center or the Cougars rom 1986-8 9, Wul was an All-America honoree himsel as a senior, earninghonorable mention accolades rom The Sporting News. Wul started at center under three di erent coaches a ter redshirting in 1985. Heplayed or Jim Walden in 1986, Dennis Erickson rom 1987-88 and Mike Price in 1989. He was also the starting center on WSUs 1988 Aloha Bowlchampionship team. A ter a success ul collegiate career Wul had a brie pro career as a center a ter graduating rom WSU in 1990. He signed a ree agent contractwith the New York Jets, but was released a ter injuring an ankle and a rib in the preseason. He played in spring 1991 with Raleigh-Durham o theWorld League, then played in spring 1992 with New York-New Jersey.

    A 1985 graduate o Davis High School in Davis, Cali ., Wul played or three di erent coaches while he was at WSU. He redshirted in 1985 andstarted our games at guard in 1986 underJim Walden.

    Dennis Erickson directed the program in1987 and 1988 with Wul as his starting

    center both years. In 1988, the Cougarswere victorious in the Aloha Bowl as Wulearned honorable mention All-Pacifc-10Con erence honors.

    Under Mike Price in 1989, Wul earnedsecond-team all-con erence honors andwas an honorable mention selection on TheSporting News All-America squad. He wasalso WSUs long snapper during his staythere.

    Wul was born Feb. 25, 1967, in Woodland,Cali . He and his wi e Sherry have adaughter, Katie, and two sons, Max andSam.

Backup quarterback Marshall Lobbestael threw or 230 yardsand two touchdowns as Washington State overwhelmed Idaho State 64-21 in theseason opener or both teams in ront o 22,034 ans. Washington State scoredon its frst our possessions against the Bengals, jumping to a 23-0 lead a ter thefrst quarter and 40-0 at hal time. Lobbestael completed his frst nine passes and

    fnished 14 o 19 in WSUs most dominant win since beating Portland State 48-9in 2008. The Cougars piled up 590 yards against Idaho State. Marquess Wilsoncaught our passes or 91 yards or WSU. Freshman Marcus Mason rushed sixtimes or 88 yards as the Cougars produced 289 rushing yards.
