Over the weekend of September 23-26, your Idaho Coalion for Motorcycle Safety board members Chuc Coulter, Brooke Hanso

Lane Triple, and Secretary Kim Young aended the Motorcycle Riders Foundaon Meeng of the Minds conference in Peoria, IL. Ot

Idahoans aending included Dave Cazel from ABATE of North Idaho (State MRF Rep.), Wayne Wierson (MRF Member Rep to the boar

and Jeremiah Parent (Idahos second Young Acvist Scholarship winner).

Idahoans took part in polical strategy sessions, presentaons on the Defenders Program, Riders Educaon, constuo

rights during a trac stop, and others. Wayne gave his Share the Road presentaon. Jeremiah was grilled by the aendees as a part

the Young Acvist panel. He did a great job and represented Idaho well.

A highlight of the conference was Slider Gilmores presentaon of his new project called Blue Haired Ladies, Road Alligators a

Tar Snakes; What Every Street Smart Rider Should Know. This was a fabulous presentaon about all of the things we face on the road ev

me we venture out. We need to take care of all the things we can control and be prepared for the things that we cant.

Aer a break in Sliders presentaon, MRF vice-president Jay Jackson awarded the ICMS and Idaho the Ron Shepard Saf

Award. This award was given in recognion for our eorts to improve the safety of the motorcyclists of Idaho. In the last couple of years w

have completed a video about motorcycling for the use of youth driver training, worked with our partners to get the motorist awaren

message out through the use of billboards and digital reader boards, the post card campaign, awareness rallies, right straight campaig

and much other work. At the banquet the ICMS was also given an award for our support of MRF board member, Chuc Coulter.

These naonal awards and a Young Acvist Scholarship, given to a relavely small SMRO is a testament to the dedicaon a

hard work done by the motorcyclists of Idaho.

You spoke, the ICMS listened! The questions on the candidatsurvey were created from ICMS member concerns. MRF MOTM 2010By

    Jeremiah "Sheepdog" Parent, Boise, Idaho

My SMRO, Idaho Coalition for Motorcycle

Safety (ICMS), nominated me for the Youth

Activists Scholarship (YAS). I was honored

to be a recipient of YAS and I was able to

attend the Meeting of The Minds in Peoria,

    Illinois.

At Meeting of the Minds I met some of

    the nations leading motorcyclist rights

activists and motivating educators like Kirk

    "Hardtail" Willard, "Slider" Gillmore and

many more. I cannot remember the names

of everyone I met, but they all have made

an impact on me and they all have deserve

my admiration. I was inspired speaking

with them, hearing of their passion and

devotion and their motivation to help keep

motorcyclists as free as possible. One day, I

hope I can be able to continue that passion, devotion, and dedication and continue to

free more of our fellow brothers and sisters

from restrictive laws restraining us within

    our happy place.

On Friday, the Youth Activists were

announced. We gave a speech to introduce

ourselves to the audience like what kind of

bike we ride, which is a 03 1200 Sportster

Custom XL. After introductions there was

an open forum where the audience asked

many questions. At times, I felt grilled by

the audience and other times I felt supportedand my input respected. There were times in

which during the grilling I was impressed

by the answers that my fellow Young

Activists Lorie Butler & Katie Gross were

able to come up with that I didnt. The last

question was what the SMROs and MROs

can do to make it easier for younger riders

to get involved. My response was that I

have no issues with my SMRO. ICMS has

been very supportive and encouraging of

myself and many others. Their doing what it

takes. When it comes to bringing in younger

riders, older riders need to not be bias. Take

the initiative and bring it to our attention, a

beverage and new age rock music always

helps. Just dont overwhelm or look down

upon us if you dont get the reaction you

want, well need time to really process the

    whole picture.

On Saturday "Slider" Gilmore hosted a

general session Blue Haired Old Ladies,

Road Alligators and Tar Snakes; What Every

Street Smart Rider Should Know." Some

of the session was a refresher, but I found

it very entertaining and educating. One

thing that was surprising to learn was that a

crash victim could go into hypothermia due

to blood loss even in the summer. This is

something that I never considered, especially

in the heat of the summer. I always carry a

rst aid kit in my saddle bags, after learning

this I now carry a space blanket as well.

There were many breakout sessions and

it was hard to choose which to attend. I

attended Share the Road and Your Rights

During a Trafc Stop. "Share The Road"

was by far the session that rocked me to the

core. The pain of loss that Wayne Wierson

put out for all the world to see almost

brought tears to my eyes. I always assumed

the worst possible outcome that could occur

for me on the road would to be taken out

by a motorist, I now doubt that. To have

to have to witness your brothers brutallymurdered in one swipe of vehicle and to be

the only one to have survived could possibly

be worse than death itself. I'm not a very

religious man myself but I pray to god I

never have to experience rst hand what

    Wayne has and does.

I have lots of experience working hand in

hand with law enforcement so I decided to

attend "Your Rights During a Trafc Stop".

I came to realize that there are attorneys

within the motorcycle community that are

so committed to motorcyclists rights thatthey do pro bono cases for motorcyclist in

    certain circumstances.

I've always felt more at home with bikers than

"normal" people. I can connect with bikers

on a level that none other can be. Relaxing

with a drink and talking with everyone at

the conference I've come to reafrm that

there is a universal understanding within

the brotherhood of bikers. They dont care

what you ride, what color it is, or how

badly it runs. Its the fact that you ride, its

your passion, and that you do everythingthat you can to fully enjoy as much of it as

you can. Sure they might mess with you a

little bit for running with the big boys on

a little Rebel 250, but nonetheless its the

fact that you ride that matters. There is an

acceptance. Bikers are my family, my fellow

brothers and sisters, they are my own kind.

I want to thank the MRF and ICMS for this

opportunity to attend Meeting of the Minds.

I plan to carry on the tradition of protecting

the rights of our fellow motorcyclists.

    FALL MEMORIAL RUN

On Sunday, October 3rd, a nice an

warm fall day, ICMS had 50+ ride

join us for our annual Fall Memori

Run. This years route took us froVeterans Park in Boise to Horsesho

Bend Park, Wild Rose Park belo

    Black Canyon Dam, Railroad Par

in Emmett and back to the Quart

    Barrel in Garden City. Peewe

Whaley took the winning dice rol

With his winnings he renewed h

    membership and donated $40.0

back to ICMS. Next up was

    roll-off between Justine Love an

Amber Zundle for second placwith Justine winning the roll-of

Low hand went to Jim Skeen.

    Everyone really enjoyed the las

of the summer riding season an

are looking forward to next year

riding weather to return sooner tha

    this year.

A Texans Appreciaon for Idaho HospitalityReprint from a run report submied to The Warrior

While on the road late this summer, I had the honor and pleasure of experiencing the Friendship Run in the biker friendly town

Orono, Idaho. The townsfolk there are down home good-as-gold and really treat you like family. The run was sponsored by Idahos thr

bikers rights organizaons. They are: ABATE of Idaho, the Idaho Coalion for Motorcycle Safety (ICMS), and the ABATE of North Idaho. I

impressive how those three ne organizaons put together that run year aer year and work with each other to keep Idaho free. Idaho

kind of like Texas: its a big state and theyre hundreds of miles away from each other. ABATE of Idaho is largely around Pocatello and t

southeast, ABATE of North Idaho is several chapters in the northern panhandle, and ICMS has members throughout the state, organizing

the polical and judicial acons in their capital (Boise) that have kept Idaho free for more than 20 years.

At the Friendship Run, there were bike games, food donated and prepared by ABATE of Nothern Idaho members, vendors, a poker waone day and a poker run the next, karaoke Friday nite, door prizes, dancing with a live concert by Road Houz on Saturday night, outstand

CMA services by Pastor Ernie too early Sunday morning, a motorcycle parade and visit to the local senior cizens home.

My righteous bros and sisters in Idaho remind me of bikers in Texas and other places I lived. ABATE of Idaho and ABATE of North Idaho a

just like the ABATE Confederaon of Texas and the US Defenders combined, always ready to ght for bikers rights. And ICMS is like TMR

TMRA2, BOLT and MMA all rolled up into one, leading the ght for our biker rights. The Republic of Texas salutes the three ne organizao

of bikers in Idaho, keeping it free and real.

There is Freedom in the Wind.
