A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Robert J. Hoelscher, 76, of East Eden, New York, who died Saturday, October 5, 2013 with his family by his side. He was born April 7, 1937 in East Eden, NY. He was the son of the late Joseph and Cecelia (Eggert) Hoelscher. He was a lifelong resident; growing up on the family farm and later becoming a partner of the Hoelscher Brothers Farm. He married his loving wife, late Nancy M. (nee Bartz) in 1967. Nancy passed away May 5, 2003.He was known for his loving and caring personality. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was the loving father of Mary (Eric) Burt and Julie (Jeff) Abell; Grandfather of Eric, Jr., Claire and Nicholas; Brother of Victor (Edna), late Joseph (Elvira), David (Noreen) Hoelscher, Miriam (Harold) Haier and Albert Hoelscher and brother-in-law of Sally Hoelscher, Donald (Angie) Bartz and Marie (Dennis) Hallock.Words of sympathy on LaingFuneralHome.com

Jessie Congdon, 95, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of North Collins and Eden, died September. 23. She was born in Eden on Dec.ember 21, 1917. She was a graduate of Eden Central School and Fredonia State Normal School. She taught third grade at Eden Central School. On her parents 48th wedding anniversary, June 13, 1948, she married Merton Congdon. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Nina (nee Barney) Nobbs; stepmother of Betty Ewing-Price; sister of the late Silas Nobbs, Edith Kildoo, Robert Nobbs and Howard Nobbs; aunt of four. A memorial visitation will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. on October 16 at the Wentland Funeral Home, located at 10634 Main St. in North Collins. A memorial service will follow at 5.

Grace E. Tallchief, 98, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, died October. 7, 2013. Mother of Joyce Gates, Gail Sundown and the late Iris Tallchief; 11 grandchildren, 21 great- and 22 great-great grandchildren. Services were entrusted to Wentland Funeral Home, North Collins, NY. Grace was recognized by the Seneca Nation as the oldest living Seneca in 2012 and was a lifelong member of Faith Baptist Chapel.

Fred L. Kennedy, Sr. of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation passed suddenly on October 8, 2013 at the age of 73. He was the beloved husband of Ursula (Lord) Kennedy, loving Father of Fred Kennedy Jr., Sally Huff, Shana Kennedy-Brol, and Lana Kennedy-Brol. Grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Brother of Elouise Kennedy, Caroline Ralston, Jean Loret, Sonja Zurek, judy Kennedy, David G. Kenedy and the late Pearl Capaso, Henry Kennedy, Roxenia DePaul, and Edward Kennedy Jr. Services were entrusted to Wentland Funeral Home in North Collins, NY. Funeral services were held at The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-Day Saints, Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. Fred was a Seneka Nation of Indians Beaver Clan Member.

This award is to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding seniors who have contributed positively to the Allegheny community. The recipients are chosen on the basis of leadership, community involvement, and academic accomplishments throughout their tenure at Allegheny. North Collins Wesleyan Church would like to proclaim the glory to God! SOUTHTOWNS CATHOLIC SCHOOL AND THE CONSTITUTION DAY GAME

Students in Miss Annmarie Buscha’s Grade 4 class are learning about The Constitution. She put the students in groups of 4 and handed them a bag with 12 paper clips, 2 dice and a riddle. The 12 paper clips represented the 12 people who were chosen to write The Constitution and the dice represented how lucky they were to be picked. The riddle only said what was in the bag. It was meant for the kids to realize how the 12 men felt when they were put in a room without guidance or rules and asked to create our Constitution. Mrs. Jennifer Hill’s Grade 2 class recently read the book, Henry & Mudge by Cynthia Rylant. After the kids finished, they made an image of the dog out of paper. MONTHLY BRANT TOWN BOARD NEWS At the Town of Brant Monthly Board meeting held Tuesday October 8th The Brant Supervisor Leonard Pero announced a plan to bring free electric power to the Town Hall. This would save the tax payer’s approximately $10,000 a year in utility bills. With the gracious help of Senator Mark Grisanti and Solar Liberty, Supervisor Pero has negotiated a $151,125.00 grant to place solar power on the town hall which would cost the town taxpayers nothing, and save over $10,000 a year on electric bills. This will be the second building (Highway building) that has cost the taxpayers absolutely nothing and will continue to lower taxes. In other agenda items, the town board approved the use of Hamburg overhead door and Ronco specialized systems to implement the construction of ADA improvements to town facilities. The $20,000 CDBG grant will aid the hearing impaired and create handicap access to our rest room facilities at our town park. A plan to create an Ag museum using our old town hall was rejected. The remodeling of our highway salt shed was awarded to Buffalo Red inc. for $7300.00; Code Officer Gary Brecker announced a plan to help clean up abused properties by working with the property owners in a innovative approach to make all parties happy. The town board passed a resolution to approve the CDBG grant application for 2014 making Sidewalks, Rural Transit and the entrance to the Sr. community building as the selections in that order. Supervisor Pero set public hearings on November 12th (8 pm Budget, 8:20 pm 2% tax cap, 8:30 pm Fire Contracts). Also reported that RCR&R will no longer pay the town for electronic waste and will charge the town for CRT (TV & monitors) the town will no longer be able to receive other town’s material without a charge. Legislator John Mills was a guest and spoke about County Government and his concerns about bringing more road money from the county and focusing on county taxes without increases. He also stated that we should change the culture of county government to be more users friendly to the taxpayers. Councilman Chad Kaczmarek made the announcement that the LS league youth football will sponsor a Tricks or Trunk Halloween party at our town park on October 31st from 5-10 pm. It also was stated that the town has set 6-8 pm as the time of tricks and treats in our community. Councilman Clark Borngraber and Police Chief Hepkins assured everyone that we are working hard to solve some of the recent larcenies in our community and that the residents should be more aware of activity and call the Police immediately if they find something suspicious, remember to lock your vehicles at all times. Supervisor Pero also announced that he submitted his 2014 tentative budget to the Town Clerk September 30th and he was proud to state that it reflects a decrease in the tax rate for the 7th straight year.

Applications are in for the 2014 Miss Rodeo New York Pageant to be held November 8-9 in Glens Falls, New York at host hotel Ramada of Glens Falls and the Civic Center Arena. This is the second year the pageant has run in conjunction with the Adirondack Stampede Charity Ro-deo. Four young women will compete for the 2014 titles of Miss Rodeo New York and Miss Teen Rodeo New York. All contestants compete in the areas of speech, modeling, impromptu question, personal interview and horseman-ship. Individual category awards will be awarded to the overall highest scoring in each division of Horsemanship, Personality, Speech, and Appearance. A Photogenic win-ner will also be selected from the four, along with a Peo-ple’s Choice Award that is based upon public vote on the Miss Rodeo New York, Inc. Facebook page from October 6-27.
