VIRGIL JIMERSON Funeral services were held at the Wentland Fu-neral Home for Virgil Ji-merson, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, who died on February 15, 2013 at the age of 73. He was the loving father of Roma-na, Eric, Kenneth, Dawn Mae Jimerson, Cheryl Aviles, Curtis Jimerson and the late Edmund K. EDEN HIGH SCHOOL CHAMBER ENSEMBLES HIT THE “BIG STAGE”

On Sunday, January 20th the Chamber Orchestra/ Fiddle Club and Wind Ensemble from the Jr./Sr. High School participated in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orches-tras Community Spotlight. Formerly known as Commu-nity Nights, this program features school and community groups in pre-concert performances before BPO concerts throughout the year. Performances occur in the Mary Seaton Room at Kleinhans, 45 minutes before the BPO concert. Each student performer receives a free ticket to the concert that follows. Family, friends and community members receive discount ticket prices to attend as well. This program began in 1995 as a partnership between the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Erie County Mu-sic Educators Association. A group of fifty-three of the Jr/Sr High Schools’ best musicians accompanied by Mrs. Martella and Mrs. Rob-erts braved the windy weather and arrived in Buffalo to perform for family, friends, community members, and regular patrons of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Each group performed two pieces on a joint concert be-fore packing up our equipment and heading into the main performing hall. Many family members joined us as we watched the BPO perform their “Cheers to Mozart” con-cert consisting of an Overture, a Symphony and a fantas-tic double piano concerto played by two twenty-five year old twins.

Mrs. Kathy Walters class has been reading about fa-mous people in history and learning what a biography is. Each student had to pick 1 person and do research on them. Each Biography had to include the person's name, birth date, death date, what made them famous, their ca-reer, early life, why the student found them fascinating, pictures and a list of what books the student read to find their information. EDEN NAMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT The Eden Central School board appointed Sandra Anzalone as its new Superintendent of Schools. The vote, taken February 15 at a special board meeting, was unani-mous. Anzalone leaves her position as Principal of Grand Island High School to take over as Superintendent at Eden on March 18. The board began the search for a new Superintendent in late 2012, which involved a number of stakeholder groups such as teachers, students, parents and community lead-ers in the interview process. Stakeholder groups provided valuable input to the Board to aid in making a final deci-sion. Mrs. Anzalone brings more than 28 years of experience in the field of education. She has served as a middle school teaching assistant, summer preschool teacher, high school special education teacher, study skills consultant, elemen-tary and high school assistant principal and currently as high school Principal. “I am thrilled to be joining the Eden school community,” notes Anzalone. “Throughout the interview process, I had an opportunity to experience the great commitment that this community and the school board have for its’ children and their education. Yes, we have set some aggressive goals and I know that by work-ing together we will empower our students to soar past each and every one of them.” Richard Schaefer, Acting Superintendent at Eden, will return to his post as Principal of Eden Elementary when Anzalone arrives in mid March. “Mr. Schaeffer has main-tained stability and provided effective leadership to our schools during this time of transition,” says Kristen Pink-er, Board Vice President.
