Southtowns Catholic School Pumpkin Pie

The students in second grade at Southtowns Catholic had the opportunity to spend time with their preschool friends. They started the morning by making Pumpkin Pie in a Bag. The students had to measure the ingredients and take turns mixing them together. Then in the afternoon, they enjoyed their treat and listened to a Thanksgiving story. News from Buffalo State College Ian Loretto of North Collins, NY was one of 14 seniors in the Television and Film Arts (TFA) program at Buffalo State who wrote, produced, and directed an original half-hour TV pilot, Cappuccino Jones. To make sure the pro-duction experience mirrored the real TV marketplace, stu-dents applied for specific television production jobs such as writer and producer. This was also the first TFA project that was approved by the national Screen Actors Guild, so the students had the opportunity to cast professional actors. Students who graduate from the TFA program at Buffalo State are prepared to pursue positions in the enter-tainment industry as screenwriters, producers, directors, agents, managers, and network/studio executives.

4-H Wreaths On Sunday December 6th the Eden Stampede 4-H Club had a magnificent time at The Wreath Barn on Keller Road in East Eden making horse head and horse shoe wreaths. Danielle, Michelle, and Emily were great at teaching us how to create them. They sure had their hands full with 13 kids making horse head wreaths and 8 kids making horse shoe wreaths. Everybody’s wreath was different and unique. The horse head was harder to make, it was chal-lenging. First you had to collect pieces of pine branches then attach them to wreath frame. Next we used clippers to shape the wreath and then we added a halter made of ribbon and a bell for the eye. Making the wreaths was so much fun and it put us in the holiday spirit!

Carrier Center Criminal Justice Students Team Up With Farnham

Volunteer Fire Department Students in the Criminal Justice program at the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES (E2CCB) Carrier Edu-cational Center were recruited by Chief Peter Chiapetta of the Farnham Fire Department to investigate a brush fire and possible arson. During the investigation, the students used a drone to capture aerial photographs and videos of the potential crime scene. The photos will be used to de-termine the point of origin and possible ignition source. Fire Captain Evan Russell also plans on using the photos and video for training purposes. The Carrier Center offers seven two-year Career and Technical Education programs that allow high school juniors and seniors to gain experi-ence and technical knowledge in highly specialized fields while earning a Regents Diploma. Students who complete program requirements receive a Technical Endorsement on their diplomas and are prepared to enter the workforce im-mediately upon graduation or pursue more advanced levels of study at post-secondary educational institutions.

Eden Garden Study Club Workshop at Eden Heights

Eden Garden Study Club held a Holiday garden therapy workshop for the residents of Eden Heights. This annual event of creating and designing fresh floral Christmas ar-rangements, is one of the highlights of the year for both garden club members and residents. Keeping Your Pet Safe During The Holidays

The Holidays are a wonderful time of the year. It is a time for families to get together and reflect on the ending year. Unfortu-nately, the Holidays can also be a dangerous time for our pets. Keeping them safe and healthy during the holiday season is essen-tial.

Here are some things to avoid this holiday season:

• Tinsel, small ornaments, and other decorations: These can all be appealing to our pets, and can easily be ingested, causing some serious problems. Tinsel and other string like materials can cause the intestines to become crowded, which can cut off blood supply, and can even cut through the intestines and allow for serious infection. Other objects can become stuck in the stomach or intestines.

• Sugar-Free candies, gum, or sweets: Xylitol, a common ingredient in these treats, is toxic to our pets. The signs of xylitol toxicity can range from diarrhea and vomiting, to dangerous increases in heartrate.

• Raisins, grapes, chocolate, macadamia nuts: all of these foods are toxic to our pets, and cause a variety of diseases. They should never be given to our pets, even in small quantities.

• Bread dough: Yeast based dough can expand in the stomach and cause painful swelling of the stomach, as well as vomiting. Make sure that any dough is stored away from areas accessible to your pet.

• Alcohol: This should go without mention. Pets should never be given alcohol, and can be extremely harmful.

• Human prescription or over-the-counter medications: Some medications are extremely toxic to our furry friends, and should never be used on them without prior instruction from a Veterinarian. Additionally, medications that are safe for animals often have different dosages, and can easily be overdosed in our pets.

Keep your pets happy and healthy this holiday season, and for years to come.

Eden Cub Scouts Pack 603 Community Food Drive

The Cub Scouts of Eden Pack 603 hosted a community food and can drive on Saturday, Nov. 7th. They collected non-perishable food items, returnable cans and cash dona-tions to donate to the Eden/North Collins Food Pantry. The scouts walked throughout the town collecting the do-nations, then sorted, boxed, and delivered the goods to the food pantry. In all, they were able to donate 33 cases of food (over 800 lbs), $56 in returned bottles and cans, and $240 in cash. Their annual event has raised hundreds of pounds of food to benefit our community.
