XI v Mary Hare 2-4 win in

the league

Spec-tastic performance from

St Bart’s to win the opening game!

Could St Bart’s pull it off on a windy

Wednesday at Mary Hare? Despite Callum

O’Neill’s best effort Mary Hare took an early

lead from a well-placed shot that trickled

under Callum’s body into the bottom corner.

This however would not affect Callum’s debut

game in goal as he was very commanding,

claiming the ball from corners. St Bart’s upped

their game and they piled on the pressure and

this finally led to Hayman dribbling around

three players to open up space from where he

played the ball through to Andy who took it

round the keeper to score into an empty net

despite nearly falling over his own feet.

St Bart’s continued to dominate and their

defence was commanding with the likes of

Sam Eva winning numerous headers, Heskey

tackling everything that moved, Haz putting in

a shift for the team linking up with George

keeping Mary Hare’s attack at bay. After a

defensive mix up Mary Hare’s keeper handled

the ball outside the box where Bart’s won a

free kick. Yates picked up the ball and struck

the ball into the top bins to give the team a 2-1

lead into half time. As the second half began

Bart’s were dominant and it was only a short

time before we scored again. Callum played

the ball out to Patrick Cardwell who headed

the ball to Yates and then he flicked the ball

through to big Alfie-Davis Ellard who

powered a shot into the bottom corner. It can

be argued that Pro Clubs had something to do

with that goal. After confident displays from

Matt Parkes and James Hassall in midfield St

Bart’s continued to press Mary Hare and it was

only a matter of time before they scored again.

Attacking from the wings were Sam Leavesley

and Dylan Agbarha and their attacking

presence led to Alfie’s second and St Bart’s

fourth. Jack Hayman then hit the underside of

the bar with his left peg which was unlucky,

but funny to watch. Mary Hare then finally

managed to break down a superior Bart’s

defence to score a second despite calls for the

striker being rather offside.

James Herbert had a solid debut for St Bart’s

as they ran out 4-2 winners to win the first

game of the season.

Year 8 Football- St Bart’s v Trinity

The match between St Bart’s and Trinity took

place on 12 February 2015. It was a very close

game to start with, with both teams having

various chances. However, towards the end of

the first half, two long balls and a fast striker

left the score 2-0 to Trinity at the end of the

first half.

Heads were down during the half time team

talk, but some inspirational words from

Mr Meddle left the St Bart’s team raring to go.

It was the dream start for St Bart’s and within

five minutes it was back to 2-2. The goals

came from Oliver Paul with a well struck shot

from outside the box and a through ball to Dan

Stevenson which allowed him to power it

home from short range.

After that it went all St Bart’s way. Chances

and more chances came but St Bart’s were

unable to find the third important goal. Late

into the half the goal came. An error from the

Trinity centre back left Dan Stevenson one-on-

one with the keeper and he tucked it away. The

rest of the match continued with St Bart’s

dominating and finished with a good 3-2

victory which should take us into the semi-

final.

GIRLS’ PE Sixth Form Netball

The Sixth Form team won last

week against Kennet 32-8 in a

league match. Well done to Christie Leach

who was awarded player of the match.

Lacrosse

The Year 8 team participated in the National

Schools Tournament on 2 March. All members

performed very well against some excellent

opposition consisting of Berkhamsted,

Walthamstow hall, St Catherine’s, St Alban’s

and Bedford.

Despite not winning any matches in their pool,

which fielded the winning school and semi

finalists, the girls gave 100% and put up a

strong fight in all their games. They were

unlucky in their final few matches, defending

well and unfortunate not to convert several

opportunities in front of goal.

The girls have learned some valuable lessons

in the process which leads nicely into their

final tournament at the Junior West Rally on

7 March.

Well done to all the girls involved but extra

praise to Emma James and Abi Livingston for

an exceptionally good effort in defence.

Squad – captains Emily Mayo and Lorna Bird;

Daisy Stratton, Maddy Mitton, Hannah Grey,

Mia Eldridge, Izzie Hole, Sophie Stancombe,

Ottilie Sanderson, Alice Barr, Sienna Edwards,
