St Bart’s Kids Small Group Session Outline
Main Point: We can always be thankful, because we belong to God, we can tell God everything, and he gives us peace.
Discussion Questions Read Philippians 4:4-7 from the Bible Story (page 1)
1. What does Paul remind the people who lived in Philippians? [Hint: he even says it twice!]. (That they should be joyful!)
2. When should we be joyful? Only when things are easy? (No - Paul wants us to be joyful always. This is not only when things are fun and easy, but always. We can do this because God doesn’t change.)
3. Why should we be joyful? (Because we belong to God. God has given us the most amazing gift in Jesus. The best gift in the universe! So we should be full of joy to God.)
4. Who does Paul encourage us to talk to when we are worried? (God! We can bring everything to God by praying to him. He is there ready to hear us anywhere, at any time. God is more powerful than anything we can be worried about. A helpful hint: if you are in a fix, remember Philippians 4:6!)
5. What happens when we pray and give thanks to God? (God’s peace will watch over your hearts and minds. God doesn’t leave us alone, but is with us and protects us.)
Read Philippians 4:8-9 from the Bible Story (page 2)
6. What type of things do you think God likes us to think about? Would he approve of any of these listed below?:
1. Things God has made?
2. Gossip?
3. Kind actions?
4. Mean thoughts?

Bible Focus Philippians 4:4-9
Theme Focus Life of Thanksgiving
Explanation of The Gratitude Series During our Winter Warmers we will be exploring how Christian gratitude is how we show how
thankful we are for God’s generosity towards us, how gratitude shows us what God’s Kingdom is like, and gives us a glimpse of God’s kindness. This series will help us understand what the bible says about being thankful, and how we can do this everyday, as we all grow as disciples more like Jesus.

AGES ALL
5. Something someone has created?
7. After praising God, bringing everything to him, why should we try to think of pure and good thoughts? (As followers of Jesus, we want to grow more like Jesus. When we think about good things, we are more likely to spot them, and be able to thank God for them.)
Prayer Take a few minutes to think of anything you want to pray to God about. Remember, God is always there and ready to listen.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that you never ever change. That your love is deeper and wider than we can ever imagine. We bring to you everything that is on our minds. Thank you that you are always near, and always ready to hear our prayers. Please help us to think about good, lovely, perfect, and excellent things, that in every way we would become more like Jesus. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
