A Psalm of David

David sang many songs of praise to God.

He praised him with all his heart.

He called God’s name Holy.

David didn’t want to forget anything God had done.

We shouldn’t forget either.

St Bart’s Kids Small Group Session Outline

Main Point: God is holy and deserves our praise. Just like David, we should remember all the good things God has done for us and should praise God too.

Discussion Questions 1. Before you read the passage, on a whiteboard or a piece of paper, write down all the characteristics of God that you are

thankful for. As you read through Psalm 103, see which ones match. Add in a new colour the ones you didn’t write down.

Read Psalm 103:1-5 from the Bible Story (pages 1-2)

2. Who wrote this Psalm? Did he have an easy, carefree life? (King David wrote this Psalm. David spent a lot of his life fighting battles, like against Goliath and surrounding enemies. He also spent a lot of time running away from people who were trying to kill him - like Saul. This doesn’t sound like a very easy life at all!)

3. Some Bibles say “Bless the Lord” instead of “I will praise the Lord”. Do you think this changes the meaning? Why or why not? (“Bless” can also be a term of praise to God.)

4. What are the reasons we should praise God? (Hint: look for all the action words.) (Because he is holy, he forgives all our sins, heals sickness, saves us, he is faithful and full of love, satisfies us, and renews our strength.)

5. What should we do when we remember everything God has done, and what he is like? (We should praise him! This is how we show our love for God and how thankful we are.)

6. What helps you remember what God is like? (You might read the Bible each day, pray to God in the morning or maybe in the car, sing and dance to worship music, look outside and thank God for all he has made.)

7. Of all the different characteristics of God, which one do you want to remember more this week?

Prayer Dear Gracious God, we thank you that you are our God! We praise you for your love, that you forgive us, heal us, save us, and that you are always faithful. Please help us never to forget who you are and what you have done. We praise you Lord for you are holy! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
